Uncovering Your Self-Sabotaging Blocks with Dr. Sidney Cohen
Dr. Sidney Cohen has been a full-time private practicing psychologist for over 33 years. He has a high-volume practice, specializing in the treatment of a wide variety of psychological disorders. He also holds an adjunct consulting appointment at a local teaching hospital in New Jersey. Dr. Cohen has also authored two self-help books (one on self-sabotage and the other on psychological blocks to losing weight), hosts an Internet TV program called "Heading In The Right Direction," is a guest on several local regular TV and radio talk shows, and does extensive public speaking. Both books, Your Self-Sabotaging Inner Bully: Standing Up To It Once and For All! and Inner Blocks To Losing Weight: Why You Lose The Battle More Than The Weight, can be found on Amazon and Kindle. Self-Sabotage Takeaways: Our subconscious is comprised of 2 forces: a positive force (making good decisions, growth) and a negative force (i.e. our inner bully). Our 'Inner Bully' shows up in our thoughts (ex, excessive self-criticism) or our actions (ex, in a relationship, excessive temper, etc). The most important action to take is standing up to our Inner Bulley. A way to do this is through 'Self-Credit Time': right before you go to bed reflect on the positive aspects of your effort for that day, your self-control, goals accomplished and any act of kindness or courage. Dr. Cohen defines courage as "Anything you're reluctant to do but you do anyway because it's in your best interest". It takes immense courage to stand up to your Inner Bully, but always worth the effort. Psychological Blocks to Weight Loss Takeaways: Two of the psychological blocks that can sabotage your desire to get healthy and lose weight are: addiction to self-rebellion and anxiety. Addiction to self-rebellion (opposite of courage), is doing the opposite of what's in your best interest (for ex, eating more than you should, eating things you shouldn't and not exercising) Anxiety plagues many and in this case, refers to fears that can keep you playing small or sabotaging yourself. A remedy to healing anxiety is through building self-esteem that revolves around liking who you are on the inside. Ways to do this is to make lists of what you value about yourself. Building this kind of self-esteem from the inside out and doing the inner work will build the foundation to carry you through limiting thoughts and beliefs. The Incredible Power of Human Design with Richard Beaumont
Richard is the National Director of Human Design UK and Human Design Films Ltd. He has been deeply involved with Human Design for two decades and much of his training was directly with the founder of the Human Design System, Ra Uru Hu. Richard was always a seeker and involved with the 'The Human Potential Movement'. He was a regular participant in numerous 'self-development' courses and groups. Richard enjoyed many of the group dynamics of self-exploration and spent some time in India. His experience in both Eastern and Western self-exploration techniques of Meditation, Tai Chi, Aikido, Gestalt, Encounter and many other modalities prepared the ground for him to create one the UK's most influential Mind, Body, Spirit magazines Kindred Spirit in 1987. He interviewed the leading pioneers of consciousness of that time: Caroline Myss, Eckhart Tolle, Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, David Hawkins, Robert Monroe, and many others. Richard was the editor-in-chief of the magazine for almost 20 years until he sold it just before the economic downturn in 2008. This was an incredibly in-depth conversation about Human Design and how you can use it to live your most meaningful and in alignment life. There was a lot discussed in this interview. Things We Learned from Richard Beaumont Human Design was a revelation of sorts given to Ra Uru Hu over the course of 8 days/nights. This information can be correlated directly to the Chinese I Ching, Kabbalah (Zohar), Chakra Energy Systems, Astrology, and Mathematics. Everyone has a unique design and when living in concert with your natural patterns, you will experience more freedom, joy, energy, and peace. There are 9 centers in Human Design: the head center (inspiration), the conceptual center (we all think differently), the throat (what we might manifest and speak of), our identity (love, direction in life), sacral energy (power and life force), root center (adrenals, and pressure of 'having to do something'), spleen (intuition and ancient wisdom), solar plexus (emotional center and ability for emotions to move through you) and the ego/will/heart center (your energy and life force). There are 36 channels that connect our centers and 64 gates. There are 4 types of auras/energy presentation: Manifestors, Generators, Projectors, and Reflectors. Richard shared that Oprah for example, is a Generator, Tom Cruise is a Manifestor and Sandra Bullock is a Reflector. You can also be a Manifestor Generator (interestingly both Richard and I are this combo). New Season: Unleash The You-est You
Unleashing your You-est You, is about the freedom to be your best self. In doing this, we let go of constraints, constructs and limited beliefs that we hold about ourself. We all do this as human beings, but the good news is that these thoughts can be uncovered, reviewed, and with love and attention, transformed. Ways to Unleash your Highest Potential: Get quiet and go within. Whatever your idea or thoughts are about meditation, I encourage you to revisit them. Redefine meditation so it serves you. I like to think about it as taking a nourishing time out where I can breathe, release and tune in. As you know, I am a huge fan of Insight Timer and if you're interested, I have a ton of meditations up there for free! Just go to: insightimer.com/juliereisler 🎧Check out this app and see what meditation style works for you, mine may not be the best fit for you. Find ones that speak to your you-est you! Journal to tap into your intuition. I like to call this Intuitive Journaling. Get any journal you like and after being still, ask yourself big open ended questions that don't need a yes or no answer. Ask questions like, 'What can I do today that will feed my spirit?' 'What are ways to be more loving to myself today and to others?' or 'How might I better nourish my body and mind today?' I invite you to pause, and allow your hand to write whatever comes up. Do not edit. Do not censor. Just allow for stream of consciousness writing. It might be a paragraph or 4 pages. Don't stop until you feel complete. This is an excellent way to build your intuition and deeper connection to your higher self. Make more time for unadulterated play. This has been a bigggg lesson for me. Making time for play and fun often was at the bottom of my list and as a result, I often felt sad, frustrated and like something was missing. I am seeing the power of adding in time for joy - - - a way to get started is to think back to what made you feel alive when you were little. I used to love looking for shapes in the clouds or dancing to music. It can be anything that raises your vibe. Participating in competitive sports since early childhood, she embraced the sense of accomplishment from discipline and hard work. Continuing through college and into her adult life, Megan learned to set priorities to affect desired outcomes. She recognized fueling was equally important to training the mind and body and from where her journey began. Megan's fond memories of the habitual dessert after dinner is no stranger to many. From home cooked meals and the common parent's bribe to clean your plate for reward, she learned through research and education how to incorporate better nutrition into her life. The continuous nutritional learning is the easy part. How do we apply and find balance with a career? Megan worked in recruitment, finance, contracts, management, and sales. Career was her priority. Climbing a corporate ladder in a comfortable job with a generous salary, the work became mundane and mechanical. Without passion, Megan committed herself to find her purpose. It was staring at her the whole time. She realized her excitement and satisfaction stemmed from focusing on her colleagues and influencing them to lead healthier lives. Megan always had a passion for health and wellness. As a Division I collegiate swimmer, she understands the challenges of growing up as an athlete and transitioning into a professional career. Balancing a demanding career, marriage, and kids, Megan continuously works towards leading a healthier lifestyle for herself and her family. She learned how to prioritize her health and she wants to help others do the same. Megan is professionally developing her skills to transition into the Health and Wellness industry with measurable goals. She is the founder of ACE LYFE, her health, and wellness brand, where she works with individuals and groups on methods to help them lead their best life with education and applying concepts on leading a healthier lifestyle. Things You'll Learn From This Episode There is no such thing as perfection anyhow, be ok with progress over perfection! Hire help, like a VA, if an area isn't your strength. Play and work into your strengths first. Creating your own business takes time, grit, flexibility and remembering your 'Why'.
