(108) The Magic of Inner Transformation
We are always taught that success is external. Yet, in order to be truly fulfilled, we need to tap into our inner worlds. External success comes from inner transformation. Inner Transformation is directly related to identity. Our identity is constructed from experiences, memories, what people tell us, our filters… To tackle any new goal, we need to learn to transform our identity. To change our identity, we can begin by noticing our thought patterns, our beliefs, our conceptions around our abilities… As Tony Robbins says: ‘the past does not equal the future. Incrementally, beginning to shift how we view ourselves can have a huge impact on our identity and our self-perception. Once we start to trust and believe in ourselves, things begin to shift around us. Inner Transformation is the key to tapping into our potential, to find freedom and joy in our life. If we are dependent on external results, we will never be satisfied. Yet, inner transformation can both provide the inner peace we need AND help us to achieve our external goals! It is a win-win! (106) The Four Pillars of Transformational Leadership
How can you be a transformational leader? What does it take to inspire others to go to the next level? The term Transformational Leadership was first coined by James McGregor Burns. He explains that transformational leadership can be thought of as: "leaders and followers make each other to advance to a higher level of moral and motivation." There are four pillars that will make you a transformative leader. 1. Intellectual stimulation: Providing others with the freedom, creativity, independence and autonomy to ensure that they can tap into their potential. It is the opposite of micro-managing. 2. Connection: Building rapport and connection with your followers. This can be if you are the CEO of your business, or a thought leader. People need to feel connected with you for you to have an impact on their work. 3. Motivation: Having a compelling vision that your followers buy into, and that also drives them. Sharing that vision and motivation with your team. 4. Inspiration: Having the self-leadership skills so that you can be an inspiration to your team and they are inspired to go the next level, be their better selves etc. These four pillars of ‘transformational leadership’ enable you to be a greater leader, and also to be more inspired and motivated in your daily work. It is a virtuous cycle. Inspiring others, being inspired. That is what transformation is all about! (104) The Life Changing Art of Simplicity
How often do we over-complicate things when really it is all simple? If we work on simplifying many aspects of our life, we will generate much greater focus & freedom! Simplifying is often linked with minimalism or the Marie Kondo method of sorting material possessions. Decluttering your physical space can greatly contribute to a sense of inner peace and well-being. Simplicity can be related to many other areas in your life: reducing the amounts of goals that you have thought you can be laser-focused on the goals that matter most to you. Work projects, processes, can also do with a good amount of simplifying! Look at your workload with new eyes and ask yourself: what is unnecessary? What can change, delete or delegate? Social life and friendships, as harsh as this may sound, can also benefit from this. Being extremely mindful of how you spend your time and energy, and which friends you choose to spend time with is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. Digital world! How many apps clutter your phone, folders on your computer, or email addresses? Simplifying the lot can help you to think more clearly and gain focus and mental space! I used to be a fairly scattered person (there is a reason why I got into focus!) and I have found, time and time again, that a good dose of simplifying can be real magic! When you are feeling scattered, or overwhelmed, simplify your life and your commitments. (102) 3 Ways To Release Your Creativity
You might want to be more creative but feel stuck and blocked. This can happen for several reasons and there are a few ways to get un-stuck. Creativity can be blocked when: you are going through a challenging time in your life, when you have not rested or played enough, if you fear imperfection, after a period where you have created a lot! Journaling is a great method to help you to release and unleash your creativity. The morning pages, recommended by Julia Cameron for instance, can help you with reducing the judgment and being more accepting of your creativity. It can also give you more clarity on your work, your goals, your ideas, etc. Lack of rest impacts your creativity a lot! If your mind is always racing, then you don’t have the mental space to create! Taking a weekend away in nature, a day off, or unplugging for several days, might be all it takes to get the creative juices flowing again. Seek inspiration from books, videos, conversations, new experiences, podcasts etc. Sometimes all it takes is a dose of inspiration to spark a new idea or concept! Creativity is a fascinating topic with so many different angles and aspects to it! If you are feeling stuck, remember that this is an indication that you need a break. Lack of creativity can be a great indication of how we are feeling, how our workload is etc. It is useful information that can raise our awareness and can be used to modify our environment. Once you are rested, play more, and journal, creativity will pour back into your life! (100) Focus: The Magic Door to Freedom and Fulfilment
Focus is one of the topics I am most passionate about! I have found, time and time again that focus contributes to freedom and fulfillment. There are three types of focus: short-term focus (on the task at hand), long-term focus (goals & directions), selective focus (thoughts & emotions) Short-term focus helps you to work effectively on any activity. This helps you to be inflow. Flow, also known as optimal experience, makes you feel fulfilled at the moment, and also is one of the main factors of high levels of productivity. Long-term focus – clarity on your goals – provides you with a clear direction. This gives you the freedom to decide how you want to reach your goals. Having a clear direction actually provides you with freedom – and it also contributes to your fulfillment. Selective focus comes down to managing your thoughts and emotions. Focusing on what is in your control – your own thoughts, emotions, and actions – drastically shifts how you place your attention and energy. You feel more fulfilled the more you develop this ability to switch between different thoughts and manage your feelings. Focus is a fantastic vehicle for freedom and fulfillment. It is one of the fundamental tools that can support you in leading a fulfilled life. It spreads its light and magic in all areas of your life!
