Misunderstanding of Purpose | Liliana Bellini & Jason Shiers
A rich conversation with Lili which really highlights the difference between purpose we make up in order to get somewhere in the world of form that seems somehow a representation of our created self image vs the purpose of being alive, and just being present to the moment.
Is there just one purpose?
Its not really an efforting practice
I have as much purpose as a mountain goat
Purpose is not about doing, its about being
My understanding of purpose is always changing
There is no before and after
When our mind gets busy we have a lot of purposes
The quieter I get the less purpose I have
We are already everything we want to be
Having purpose of doing comes from a place of lack
There’s nowhere to be other than here
Having a doing purpose steals my presence in now
We are purpose
When we’ve got something on it
My best work is done when there is less of me
I am not who I think I am
Purpose does not develop the idea of who you are
Effortless flow in life is who we are
Are we operating from a misunderstanding?
Its radically different to what you think
Its really an unexplainable thing
No words are enough, you can only touch the space
It’s full of curiosity, excitement and wonder

Misunderstanding of Resilience | Cathy Casey & Jason Shiers
A wonderful conversation with Cathy Casey about our innate resilience, how its always there yet we just don’t know or see it.
Some of the nuggets I heard:
Having certainty in resilience
Why do we wake up with a clear mind
The still small voice of reason
Seeing resiliency in hindsight
We always know its there but don’t look
God is doing favours for you
If you don’t see it for yourself
Its inside every human being
No really, its that simple!
People can hear, when we’re neutral
The power of seeing simplicity
Seeing the resilience in chaos
The psyche can only take so much
Reaching out for help is it
Innate resilience is always there
There’s nowhere else to get to

Misunderstanding of Parenting | Erika Bugbee & Jason Shiers
This was a real eye opener for me being a parent and seeing what shows up for me on a daily basis, Erika has a real simple and powerful way of sharing and seeing the roles we take on as parents, and pointing to what is true for everyone, even our children.
What stood out to me:
Being the perfect parent
How kids show us the way
Disconnecting from a child
We have a lot of ideas about life!
Your job is not to control, but understand
Resilience is a constant for humanity
Parenting can be tough
We can’t stop our kids from struggling
Life will help you learn what you need to learn
Insecurity makes for moments of crappy leadership
When your mind calms down, you get a new outlook
Our kids are not living our experience
Forget about everything you think you know
Let things go, unless its a problem
Does your philosophy make sense?
Creating things! Out of thought
Addiction the path to peace of mind?

Misunderstanding of Fear & Worry | Mavis Karn & Jason Shiers
Such a simple and peaceful conversation with the wonderful Mavis Karn, exploring the misunderstanding of fear and worry, and how it looks to most people, until you see the truth of how the mind works, and everything starts to look different.
How we create our own fear
We always know what to do in the moment
The abnormal becoming normal
Spotting the false logic
We have a built in alarm system
Worrying is the habit not the content
Every emotion is there to guide us
When our heads are clear we can achieve anything
Calming down, makes you smarter
When you notice, your consciousness grows
Thoughts don’t do any harm
What if it really is that simple?
Addiction is our brain lying to us
Does everyone feel the same way about this?
We are addicted to complexity
There is only 1 certainty – Change
We get to decide how we experience things
There is just now
The only reality is undivided wholeness
Our experience is always created inside out
We are enough as we are
All the information is in the feeling

Misunderstanding of Inner Peace | Dicken Bettinger & Jason Shiers
A very calming listen to Dicken Bettinger, who talks about inner peace, where it comes from and how we experience more of it when we are not caught up in our stories about the imaginary self.
What I heard:
From chaos to inner peace
Recognising ordinary moments
We can’t get there by doing something
We already have it
It’s so ordinary
It’s only available in the now
The absence of our personal thinking
Its only our own stories that cover it up
Whatever we think, we feel
We get caught up in thought stories
Change is not complex or difficult
If it feels illusive its a function of thought
There is no past and future
You’re not your thinking
You’re not your feeling
The imaginary future doesn’t exist
Peace just means no story
It doesn’t matter what we are feeling
We can be at peace at any moment
Peace is never in the future or past
When energy opens thats peace of mind
When we’re in the now were kinder people
The now is the cure for all of our upset
Pure presence is like the movie screen
There is no suffering in the now
Stress an tension is like an alarm clock

Misunderstanding of Awakening | Maggie Gilewicz & Jason Shiers
A great episode with Maggie Gilewicz around the misunderstanding of awakening, there was so much gold in this because it really looks like if or when we get this ‘understanding’ that I talk about on this podcast, that life should be a certain way, this podcast episode is about embracing being human.
Some things I heard:
A journey of embracing our humanness fully
Beyond the intellect
Giving up – to be able to see new
Living in Bliss – is it real
Is it always going to be like this
Now that I understand I should not feel…
Fighting the human experience
Pretending to be ok when you are not
Making up what ‘this understanding’ means
Being ok with not being ok
When I tell myself, its just a thought
Thinking I know stops me from seeing
Being ok with doing the dance
Knowing we are ok underneath it all
Beyond the story of me
Knowing that experience will pass
Having shitty experiences and having hope
When you have hope everything is always ok
Why ‘why’ questions are never useful
Allowing our feelings to come
The ocean is always calm, below the waves
When I embrace my experience the quicker it passes
Just do whatever occurs to you
Theres nothing to do, but you can do what occurs to you
Beyond the language and words
How humans relate and connect
Don’t try to be someone else

The Big Misunderstanding | George Pransky & Jason Shiers
It just made sense to call this episode with George The Big Misunderstanding, caught out by the simplicity of what we share I was reminded how simple, yet life changing the 3 principles understanding is, George has a soft, gentle and humorous way of sharing that make you really reflect on how life works.
What I noticed:
What sends people off the track
Its not about genetics
Its not about medication
The real source of peoples lives is their thinking
Thought is the variable that determines the experience
Peoples experience of life is up for grabs
Thinking is the variable, not the circumstances
The link between thought and experience
Being on candid camera
Understanding the nature of feelings
People are resilient
They forget as they get older
The point of life is to get over yourself
Understanding helps us be graceful in life
1 to 1 what you think = what you experience
No really, its that simple
People are being fooled by their thoughts
How to see the link between thoughts and experience
Why do we pour everything into our ideas about us
Do therapists really buy into the diagnosis
Why psychotherapists have very high suicide rates
Why that doesn’t happen in the 3p understanding

Misunderstandings of Love | Aaron Turner & Jason Shiers
A really cool, simple conversation with Aaron Turner breaking down what look like the complexities of loving relationships, where love exists in all of us, and how to experience more of it. This was a great exploration of what is innately true for everyone, and also how we block ourselves from getting it.
Some things I noticed:
Love outside ourselves can never be found
How we stumble upon love
Love is a feeling of your own purity of mind
When we are at ease, there is a richer feeling
Love is so simple
Its only our ideas of what love is that separate us
Only my own thoughts and feelings separate me from love
When people don’t feel love they don’t know it’s there
Underneath all our personal thinking is that experience
All conflict is created in the mind via thought
There’s never anything to fix
You can have a healthy relationship to unhealthy thought
When we have a thought, it looks like a real thing
It is important to know its just a thought
When you don’t feel good pause
Love is an experience of a less upset distorted mind
Compatibility – Anyone can be with anyone
Dating with less on your mind
Once your mind is more free you can enjoy yourself
Happiness come from within not another person
Its actually all so simple
When we get out of our own way
Its about our relationship to our true self
Aaron Turner, PhD
Aaron has been a leader and pioneer in bringing an understanding of State of Mind to businesses and organisations over the last 20 years. Although he has worked extensively with individuals, couples and families, it was the impact he saw in organisations that he found most inspiring.
He started his professional career in this area in 2000. Moving from a research position at Brunel University to a trainee position at a counselling and consulting practice in Washington State. He worked there for 10 years rising through the ranks to become the practice’s CEO for three years.
During that time, Aaron was gripped by the profound effects he saw when leaders, teams and organisations began to see, and more effectively navigate, their state of mind. He developed, ran and provided programs in executive leadership, sales and communication as well as larger-scale cultural change projects. These programs have included executive institutes for Fortune 50 corporations and executive development programs for senior Army leaders (One and two-star generals, Colonels and their civilian equivalents) in The United States.
In 2010 Aaron founded One Thought to focus primarily on working with leaders and organisations.
He is a published author and international public speaker.
Aaron has an online course to give people access to the amazing training that he does, and there are free lessons and it is only £85/year for for full access, take a look here if you are interested One Thought Online

Misunderstanding of Change | Chip Chipman & Jason Shiers
A conversation with a beautiful feeling with Chip Chipman, I really enjoyed this exploration of change, how change works and the illusion that we get caught up in our humanity of what looks like it needs to change. Chip was friends with Syd Banks and has been sharing this understanding for many decades, it was a lovely episode.
Here is what stood out to me:
How change comes about
Effortless change is possible
Why behavioural change doesn’t work
Our innate health is before experience
Your innate health cannot be damaged
True change comes from quiet moments
There is nothing outside of you
An insight is the start of change
We get a different relationship with our experience
Every deep insight we have will continue to teach us
There are no rules for insight
How to have deep impact with clients
The true self is healthy
Why searching to fix yourself doesn’t work
The underlying problem is always insecurity
When insecurity subsides many things are resolved
The effort to change, creates more insecurity
How thought slows down, creating space
Seeing our insecurity is enough
Being kind to ourselves makes the difference
Accepting our own humanity
Slowing down to the speed of life
The journey takes you to a better life
Looking at life from a higher level of consciousness
The answers are always in simplicity

Misunderstanding of Self Help | Nicole Barton & Jason Shiers
A deep dive into the misunderstanding that we call self help with Nicole Barton, who after a lifetime of struggling and trying everything discovered the simple understanding of how the mind really works, and experienced a profound sense of freedom.
Some of the points that stood out are:
Being somewhere other than here
Constantly striving to be more
We are not broken
Why self help makes you feel more of a failure
Theres nothing to do to overcome things that don’t exist
Seeing beyond the illusion of our humanity
Self help is only ever a plaster
Good feelings only ever come from within
The answers always come in a state of calm
No effort is needed, just quiet
Analysing thoughts is adding more thinking
Why typical journaling keeps you stuck
We are conditioned to talk about our problems
The answers are not in the past
The past doesn’t exist anymore
How Self help innocently keeps us stuck
Who we really are beyond our ideas
Whats beyond our conditioning
We’re always in the unknown
We’ve created a solution to the problem we’ve created
Everything is always going our way
Principles vs self help ideas
Concepts vs an explanation of how things work
