191. 1,000 Days of Celibacy : Fall in Love With Yourself First, Happiness Comes From Within, Be Mindful of Who Gets Your Time + Energy & Own Your Truth
1,000 days of no sex. There was a period in my life from fall of 2017 to spring of 2021 where I completely eliminated dating. The year leading into this I was heartbroken, was beginning my creative career & was trying to get my s*** together on what I wanted to do with my life post-college. Wanting to go all in on myself, I spent 0 time or energy pursuing women and used that time for myself. During this period of my life it was truly challenging because I felt ashamed to admit this to anyone & kept it to myself. Today we’re going to dive into the 4 lessons I learned while going 1,000 days celibate. 1,000 days of celibacy taught me these 4 lessons : 1 : Fall in love with yourself first. We need to get to know the person we see in the mirror first before we spend any time or energy trying to attract love from someone else. 2 : Happiness doesn’t com from someone else. Yes an intimate relationship will bring a certain joy but we can find happiness in our day to day lives by having gratitude for the journey that we are on. 3 : Be mindful of who you spend your time and energy on. Both are something we can never get back so it’s important to be aware of who we give our attention to. 4 : Own your truth. No matter where you’re at in your life or how you feel, just own it and be unapologetic about it. If people judge you for it, are they really people you want in your life? Challenge for the listeners : Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and consider if there’s anything in your life that is distracting you from becoming the best version of you. For me that meant eliminating dating for sometime which led to the celibacy but for you it could be something else. All I ask if you take a moment to pause, think about it, become aware of it and make a decision if or what changes may need to be made moving forward. Get sustained energy with Tenzo Tea! 189. Ignore Their Opinion : 4 Reminders to Help Ignore People's Opinions
Stop caring about peoples opinions and start living a life that is true to you. I’ve been there before where I cared more about what people thought instead of listening to what I truly wanted. I was allowing people to be in the driver seat of my life by making decisions for me instead of me making them for myself . The moment I flipped this around and started only focusing on what I wanted was when I began to live a life authentic to me. Today we’re going to dive into the four reminders that help me ignore peoples opinions, which allows me to follow my heart and interests. Everyone in this world is entitled to their opinion but that doesn’t mean we should or have to listen to it. In order to truly live a life authentic to us, we must be fully confident and happy with the choices we make within all buckets of our life. Yes, it’s totally okay to seek advice or feedback from people that we trust but at the end of the day, our decisions should be our decisions and not theirs. These are the 4 reminders to help ignore peoples opinions : 1 : The man in the arena theory. If someone is not already seeking a path similar to us or has even taken that first step, ignore their opinion. We should only value those who are or have walked a similar path before us. 2 : Death is inevitable, following our gut should be too. Accepting that someday we’re going to die should give us the permission to truly live a life doing the things we want to do regardless of what people have to say about it. 3 : We’re the authors of our own book. We’re writing the script each and everyday and our script is unique and one of a kind. It’s okay that in the past we have allowed others to write part of our story for us but starting today and moving forward, we take back full responsibility of writing it ourselves. 4 : Nobody has the answers. Some peoples opinions may be more trusted than others but we must still remember that they too may not even be fully correct Challenge for the listeners Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and consider are you living a life based on your choices or the choices of others? This can be a bit scary to think about but seriously take the time to really be honest with yourself. When it comes to career, financial decisions, dating, life experiences, what you do on the weekend etc… are you doing to because it’s what YOU truly want to do OR is it because it’s what everyone else wants you to do? 187. The Boston Marathon : Crossing Off A Bucket List Item, Focus On The Small Steps, Do The Work When Nobody Is Watching & Push Through The Bad Days
3 marathons in 6 months. I knew someday I wanted to run a marathon but never did I think I’d run back to back to back marathons. They say the third time is the charm and it most definitely was with The Boston Marathon. This was a dream of mine since I was kid & I couldn’t have been more prepared come race day. My legs were fresh, the weather was perfect & I was able to crush through all 26.2 miles without feeling completely gased out . Today we’re going to dive into why I wanted to run Boston, the training that happened behind the scenes and 7 lessons I learned from the experience. 7 lessons from running the Boston Marathon : Lesson 1 : Do the work even when nobody is watching. We have to become our biggest accountability partner and continue to show up daily. Lesson 2 : Focus on the small steps. There’s no need to get overwhelmed thinking about what has yet to come & the best way to do that is by being present and focusing on what’s in front of you right now. Lesson 3 : Push through the bad days. It’s inevitable we may hit a wall and not have the motivation to do what we need to do but these are the moments we need to show up Lesson 4 : Slow down to speed up. It may feel like we’re “losing progress” in the moment but we’re setting ourselves up for the long-term. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Lesson 5 : Treat your mind & body with care. It will ripple into every area of your life as you’re able to show up as the best version of you. Lesson 6 : Be thankful for your supporters. Never take for granted the people that go out of their way to show love & support. When given the opportunity, do the same for others. Lesson 7 : Get started today. I wouldn’t have been able to complete a marathon had I not taken that first step to go run a mile. After that, it’s just a game of staying consistent and then the progress comes. Challenge for the listeners : Spend 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and write a list of bucket list items you’ve always wanted to cross off. It doesn’t matter what it is, write it down. After you have that list, start at the top and cross off one item at a time. Questions from the SDI Community Tony Nash : What did you say to yourself to keep going? Kevin : Were you nervous putting yourself out there to raise the funds? Maddie Torres : What was something you didn’t expect to feel but felt? My father : Of the three marathons, which one is your favorite? Kevin : What’s next? Get sustained energy with Tenzo Tea! 185. Sharpen the Mind : 8 Mindsets That Positively Impacted My Life
I have a question for you. When has having a pessimistic mindset ever helped? Any decent answers? Probably not. Over the last couple years I’ve done my best to rewire my brain to ONLY see the world from a optimistic lens. It takes effort but has had a ripple effect on my energy, my mood and how I carry myself in the world. Today we’re going to dive into 8 mindsets that have positively impacted my life. Having dived into the self development space heavily over the last 5 years, these are the 8 mindsets that I live by : 1 : You win the morning, you win the day. Create space in the beginning of your day to do the habits that help you feel your best self. 2 : Shoot your shot with everything. It could be someone you’re attracted to, a job you’re considering applying to, a cold email you have neglected to send etc. Just go for it and see what happens. 3 : Live 24hrs at a time. The longer we spend focusing on the future, the less time & energy we have to make the best of the day in front of us. 4 : Stay Dialed In. Regardless of what category or area of your life you’re working on right now, go all in on it. Cut out distractions and do what you need to do. When you’re ready to move onto the next area of your life, do it & dial in on it as well. 5 : Go one more. Anytime you feel like tossing in the towel in on any area of your life, remind yourself to just give it one more shot. This perspective will help keep us in the game when we feel like giving up. 6 : Let go of what you can’t control. Any time or energy spent getting caught up on things that are completely out of our control is a waste. We must instead surrender to where life is trying to take us. 7 : How you do one thing is how you do everything. I am my biggest quality accountability partner and I try to put my best foot forward with anything that I do. 8 : Seek discomfort. All the greatest things in life are truly on the opposite side of our comfort zone. With that being said, we gotta pursue whatever interests us. Challenge for the listeners : Take 10 minutes within the next 24hrs and consider two things. One, do you find yourself operating from an optimistic or pessimistic mindset more often than not? Know that majority of us operate from a pessimistic one without even being aware of it and all it takes is a little bit of rewiring the brain to change it. Secondly, of the eight mindsets I discussed today, do any resonate or speak to you the most? If so, spend some time investigating it more and consider what changes you may want to make moving forward. Also consider the mindsets you know to be true that help you that maybe I didn’t discuss. 183. Morning Routines : 6 Steps To Create Momentum For The Day Ahead
I love morning routines. It’s the time of the day I get to cross off a few personal items on my to-do list that help me feel my best self. It’s the time of the day I’m completely disconnected from my phone so I don’t get distracted checking texts, emails or social media. Over the years the routines have changed and evolved but the result is the same : I’m prepared for day in front of me. Today we’re going to dive into the 6 steps that I take to create momentum for the day ahead. Let's fire it up. 6 steps that I take to create momentum for the day ahead : Step 1 : Making my bed every morning helps build the initial momentum for the day ahead. As small of a step as it might be, it’s the first item on my daily to-do list I get to cross off which helps jumpstart my day. Step 2 : No phone for the first three hours of the day. Other than checking briefly to see if there are any emergencies, I put all of my attention towards my morning routine so that I can truly get myself ready for the day ahead. I’ve done my best to create healthy space between myself and being connected to the world at my finger tips. Step 3 : Clearing my mind daily helps me acknowledge the good and bad thoughts that may arise. The combination of meditation and journaling gets my mind right and ready for the day ahead. Step 4 : Completing creative work early on in my day is super beneficial because I have no distractions and I’m coming off a full nights rest which means I have the energy to think. Step 5 : Morning sweat allows me to prepare my mind, body & soul for the day ahead. It truly warms me up for the next 24hrs ahead of me. Step 6 : Eating a breakfast of a champion helps fuel me for the day ahead. In order to operate at my highest level, I need to fuel my body with the proper foods and breakfast necessary if I want to make the best of the 24hrs. Challenge for the listeners : Spend 10minutes within the next 24hrs and consider how you spend the first hour of your day. Do you prioritize the routines that help you feel your best self? Are there certain changes you wish to make? Let this episode be the inspiration to hopefully help make the necessary changes you want Questions from SDI Community : Sander : Do you notice any difference between the different foods you start the morning with?
