101. Prioritize Sleep : Our Mind & Body Will Thank Us

Have you sacrificed sleep so that you could keep working, grab drinks with a friend or watch an extra episode of Netflix? Have you woke up on some mornings and immediately felt ready to go back to sleep? Have there been days you don’t even feel like you’re “awake” until lunch rolls around? Today I want to talk about the importance of prioritizing our sleep and how by doing so allows us to feel refreshed and ready for the day ahead. Yes it’s okay to sacrifice a few hours here and there when needed BUT for the most part we should push to get as much rest as our body and mind needs. Three steps to prioritizing sleep (1) Find How Many Hours You Need : find how many hours you need and commit to it once you find that sweet spot that makes you feel good on a daily basis.  (2) Pick A Bedtime & Stay Committed To It : Your body & mind will thank you tomorrow when they’re fully recharged and recovered, ready to tackle the day ahead. (3) Create a Night Routine That Works : Test & try different night routines until you find one that helps you slow down from the day. Once it clicks, stick with it.   Challenge for the listeners Be honest with yourself and ask : Do you prioritize your sleep or do you sacrifice it more often than you probably should? For the next week, spend 5 mins every morning and document how your sleep was, how you feel this morning and see what the similarities are on the days you feel GREAT, GOOD OR WORST. Questions from The BMC Ben + Robbie : What have you found to be important night time routines that allow you to fall asleep fast? 99. Connect the Dots : Trust Your Gut Because It Will Work

Have you ever held back from living the life you truly wanted to live because you were scared to take a risk? Have you considered all the ways you could “fail” instead of thinking about what you could actually learn from taking the leap? Have you allowed someone else’s opinion deter you from taking the path you think is best for you? Today I want to talk about how by following our gut & doing the things we deep down inside want to do, we have to trust that everything will fall into place with time. That the only way to really know where something might take us is by going for it & connecting the dots later on how it benefited us. Steve Jobs quote : “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Three reminders to help us do the things we deep down inside want to do : (1) Trust Your Gut : Nobody knows us better than us. When faced with a decision, we need to listen to our guts and follow our intuition. (2) No Destination Brings Happiness : We must remind ourselves that no destination will bring us happiness, that it can only be found in the process of the day to day ride of getting there. (3) Keep Going : No matter the results, we must keep going because the wins add more fuel to the fire and the loses help us appreciate the wins all that much more. Challenge For The Listeners Text / call a friend today that’s on the path of chasing something they love and tell them to keep going and why they inspire you. That little extra push of encouragement can be all that someone needs for them to stick with it. Questions from The BMC Job : If you could have Jobs on the podcast and you could ask him 1 Q, what would it be? John : Could you elaborate on how it effects daily decisions and habits Alyssa : How did you know to keep following your gut? 97. Embrace the Suck : Lean Into the Pain

When things get tough in your life, do you attack it straight on or do you let your foot off the gas and ease up? When you’re on the last set of a workout, the last mile of a run, the last five minutes of a Yoga class, do you take it easy or push yourself to the limit? Does pushing yourself outside the comfort zone scare you or does it excite you? Today I want to dive into why we need to learn to Embrace The Suck and how by doing so it not only make us mentally & physically stronger, but it shows us what we’re really made of. Embrace The Suck each and everyday of your life and you’re going to see what your ultimate potential is. Three steps to Embracing The Suck (1) One Small Step At A Time : Think of ways you can break these massive goals / ideas you’re working on into smaller tasks. Success isn’t some massive leap, it’s the product of mini steps that are taken over a long period of time. (2) Quiet The Mind : We need to let the pessimistic thoughts come in & out of our mind by fighting back with optimistic thoughts. (3) Visualize The Finish Line : By knowing where we’re going, it not only provides us with daily inspiration but it also helps us push through the hurdles that come along the way.   Challenge for the listeners Which of the three do you need to work on the most? Focusing on the one step daily, quieting the mind or visualizing the finish line Questions from the BMC Josia : Do you have a list of steps to get out of a rut? 95. Finding Your True North : Identify What Matters Most & Double Down on It

Do you deep down inside have some idea of where you’re headed / what you want to do with your life? If someone asked you what your purpose was, can you define it within 1 sentence right this moment? Do you know of someone who seems to wake up every day with a fire under their ass to get after it? Today I want to talk about the importance of identifying what our True North is or ultimately what our purpose on this earth is. When we’re able to do so, we can make better daily decisions that will put us on the right path or at least a few steps closer to where we think we want to be. Steps For Finding Your Truth North (1) Throw Ideas At The Wall : Consider what you enjoy doing and what you’re good at. With that in mind, throw as many of these ideas at the wall until something sticks. (2) Double Down Once It Clicks : Once we’ve found our True North, our purpose or our Dharma, we need to go allllll in on it & be very strategic about where and what we spend our time & energy on. Get real good at saying NO to opportunities that don’t bring us closer to where we want to be. (3) Have Patience & Enjoy The Ride : Don’t give up when you’re right around the corner from the finish line. Take every day 24 hours at a time and smell the roses when given the chance. Life moves quicker than we’d ever imagine and we need to enjoy the ride of it. Challenge For The Listeners Have you found what your True North is? If no, please take 10 mins today to consider what you’re good at and what you enjoy doing. 93. The Winning Community : Surround Yourself With People That Inspire You To Be Great

Do you feel like you’re the outcast in your community and want to take a path different than everyone else? Do you wish you were surrounded by more people with similar interests to you? Have there been moments when you felt lonely, unsure if you would ever find people with a similar mindset? Imagine a day when you’re surrounded by people with similar mindsets & interests as you because you best believe that day WILL come. Today I want to dive into how we can be proactive and start surrounding ourselves with that winning team that inspires us to be great. This pod was inspired by Sophia Clemente, a listener of the podcast who submitted a topic + question. Steps for Building a Winning Community Around You (1) Throw Yourself Out There Attend a local meet up, slide through someone’s DM or send a cold email. It’s not easy to do but the mindset should be you’ve got nothing to lose & everything to gain so be aggressive and go for it. (2) Reps On Reps On Reps This is a reminder that it’s going to take more than 1 DM, meetup, email etc for us to have this amazing winning community around us. It’s a constant work in progress and we need to be unattached to some expected deadline we make and instead just go with the flow and trust it will fall into place with time. (3) Create The Opportunity Bus If we don’t feel like enough opportunities are coming inbound to us, create the opportunity bus and invite people to tag along! It’s only going to help you build that winning community by surrounding yourself with similar mindset people.   Challenge for the listeners Which of the three tips do you need to put more effort into? Be honest with yourself and start putting some effort into it TODAY!   Question from The BMC Josia : How would you approach people that are in a “level above you” meaning money, success etc? Taylor : What do you want out of your community? Thomas : How do you build others up in your existing “circle” to the next level? Job : How to surround yourself with such people when you move to a new city?   Review of the week Doug McQuaid   Got a topic / question you want me to cover?
