91. Mental Health Is Our Number One Priority : Four Steps To Keeping a Clear Mind
Do you make a conscious effort to take care of your mental health? Does hearing the words mental health scare you or is something you avoid talking about? Have there been days you feel you’re on top of the world and others you feel extremely low? Have you noticed that certain activities or hobbies help keep your mind clear? Have you ever separated yourself from your emotions and considered why you may think & feel a certain way? With May being Mental Heath Awareness month I wanted to dive into the daily steps I take to help care for my mental health. By the end of this episode, I hope I can bring some value around the topic as I truthfully believe Mental Health should always be our number one priority. 4 Ways I Prioritize My Mental Health Daily : (1) Daily Gratitude Journal : By taking 5-10 minutes every morning to acknowledge all the good in my life, it sets great intention for the day ahead of me. (2) Crank Up Them Endorphins : Adding daily sweat to my life gets the blood flowing for the day ahead and allows me to step away from all the madness in the world so that I can have some me time. It also gives me clarity on where I’m headed. (3) Stillness Is Crucial : In order to keep my mind from running a million miles an hour, I need to take time every day to slooooow down and reground myself in the present moment. If I don’t, I might let my emotions get the best of me. (4) Always Think Optimistically : No matter how the hand of cards are dealt, I force myself to think about how a situation is benefiting me. By doing so, it changes the perspective and allows me to see the world from a more optimistic lens. Challenge for the listeners Spend 10 minutes today and jot down some daily habits or routines that you think benefit your mental health Whatever that may be, I encourage you all to find ways to make these daily rituals If you know they benefit you, why would you not want to do them? Questions from The BMC Kris : The importance of sleep Pod Review of The Week No review of the week, we’re still 40 short from hitting 100 before Episode 100! 89. Optimal Anxiety : Creating Pressure That Leads to Productivity
Have you ever felt anxious when thinking about the tasks that need to be completed today, this week or this month? Have you ever felt like there simply is not enough time in the day to get the job done? Have you ever pushed yourself to keep working when you’ve felt burnt out or the quality of the work wasn’t to your standard? Have there been days you wake up with a to-do list 100 items deep and you don’t even know where to start? The good news ladies & gentlemen is you’re not alone because myself and many people in this world have or feel this quite often. In today’s podcast I want to provide some tips on how instead of letting this overwhelming feeling get the best of us we can use it to our advantage. There is a sweet spot of urgency to get things done timely balanced with being productive… that’s optimal anxiety. Tips for using Optimal Anxiety to our advantage : (1) Plan Ahead & Create Deadlines : At a macro level, planning for the weeks ahead is going to help us know what we’re supposed to be doing & when. It gives us a birds eye view of what to expect in the future. (2) Create a Rocks & Sand List : At a micro level, our rocks and sand list allows us to complete daily tasks efficiently. By separating our rocks, our top priorities, from our sand, our not so urgent tasks, we can prioritize which task to complete now and which to finish later. (3) Pick Up Where You Left Off : There will always be more work that needs to get done. Set realistic expectations for what you can do in the day ahead and stop when you feel you’ve given that 24 hours everything you’ve got. You can pick up right where you left off tomorrow. Challenge for the listeners Do you feel extremely overwhelmed with the amount of work that’s ahead of you or completely frozen and not sure where to start? Create optimal anxiety within your life by breaking down what you need to do & when by day, week and month. It will help you stay productive on a micro level and help you crush through the tasks at a macro level. Questions from The BMC Joshua : Strategies to grapple with decision making when suffering from anxiety Conor H: What’s the best way to channel it? Conor R: Professional vs personal : my anxiety can help drive me at work, but can be crippling at home Got a topic / question you want me to cover? 87. Death Is Inevitable : Start Living Your Dream Life Today
Do you ever stop to remind yourself that one day we all actually die? Does it scare you or make you anxious thinking about it? Or does thinking about death add this sensation inside you to start living your best life and to do the things YOU want to do? I know it may not seem like the most glamorous / fun subject to talk about BUT when we come to grip acceptance that death is inevitable, it changes our perspective on the life we’re living today. With that being said… today I want to dive how NOT being scared of death can & will help us make the best of every day! Four Values To Live By That Will Help Us Live Our Best Life (1) Shoot Your Shot : Whether it be asking someone out, applying for the dream job, sending the cold email… GO FOR IT! We’ve got nothing to lose & everything to gain. (2) Follow Your Interests : Whether it’s packing your bags & moving to that city you dreamed of, starting that passion project or starting a business… you never know where something might take you UNLESS you go for it. (3) Ignore Their Opinion : If they’re sitting in the nosebleeds while you’re in the arena, do NOT listen to them! Everyone will have opinion, don’t let their two cents dictate how you live YOUR LIFE! (4) Deathbed Check : Whenever you’re at a crossroads unsure what to do next, ask yourself “Fast forward to the day I’m on my deathbed, will I be happy with this decision?” if YES, go for it. Challenge for the listeners Which of the 4 values resonated with you the most? Take 60 seconds today, pull out your notes app or a piece of paper and write down how you could better utilize this value. Question from The BMC Tim Weber : Is it the fear of death? Have there been times when you had really thoughtful conversations and wondered why more of these convos don’t happen regularly? Have you ever been excited to share something with someone that you unintentionally stop listening to them so that you won’t forget your thought? It’s very obvious to me & I’m sure many of you when someone is listening to what we have to say vs letting our voice in one of their ears and out the other. Today I want to dive into how we can all become a great listener by allowing people to do the talking and asking questions along the way. Topics : Becoming a great listener is a skill that we can & will get better at with time Let people do the talking & you’d be amazed with how much you can learn and how it will better prepare you for the future Three steps for becoming a great listener (1) Pay Attention With An OpenMind : Put down the phone, forget what happened yesterday and don’t worry about what you need to do later. Give the moment your undivided attention and keep an open mind. (2) Ask Questions Unapologetically: There is no such thing as a stupid question so don’t hesitate to ask. Nobody is judging you and if they are, gett’em outta here! (3) Learn From Others Experiences : Take what other people have learned in their journey and apply it within your own life. Challenge for the listeners Think about the last thoughtful & meaningful conversation you had with someone Did you pay attention with an open mind? Did you ask questions unapologetically? 83. Avoiding Analysis Paralysis : Every Step Is a Winning Decision or Learning Opportunity
Have you ever found yourself overthinking every decision that you become frozen and make 0 progress? Do you ever find yourself comparing where you’re at today to where someone else might be along with their journey? Do you hesitate to start because you think about all the work that needs to get done ahead of you? Today I want to dive into how we can avoid Analysis Paralysis at all costs by reminding ourselves that every step we take is either a winning decision or a learning opportunity. Big thanks to Alexx Leedom for submitting this weeks topic! Topics: What is Analysis Paralysis? It’s when overanalyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become “paralyzed”, meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon. Four reminders that help me overcome analysis paralysis: (1) Starting Is The Momentum You Need : It’s extremely intimidating when you’re just getting started but trust that these baby steps today will add up to leaps with time. (2) Failures Lead To Growth : Every step is a winning decision or learning opportunity, therefore there is no way to fail. (3) Take Inspiration From Others Success : Let the success of others add fuel to the fire inside you because they are the example of what is possible. (4) Keep Moving Forward : Regardless of how things play out, we only allow ourselves to move in one direction, forward. Challenge for the listeners Spend 60 seconds today and commit to a reminder that resonated with you the most today and write it down and stick it somewhere you will see it daily. Questions from The BMC German : Set a clear agenda with clear end results. Sometimes working backwards is best. Pod Review of the week Ben Logs Got a topic / question you want me to cover?
