We just haven't been able to connect in person to do so and that's ok.I was speaking last night to another Top and he asked why so many people flock to this particular fellow. My answer was initially on the lines of "He is educated." "He is well known and highly regarded." "He's a celebrity in our circles."But I'm not that type of person. I don't go for the popular and the pretty. I am not a superficial person. I am much deeper than that when it comes to connection. Connection is very important for me even in just a scene. So what is it that draws me to a Dominant or Top? What makes me so picky?Well, There are the basics.Skill is a must due to safety.Education is a must due to safety.Having the same interests is a must or a scene wouldn't happen.But deeper...under the surface...WHAT draws me only to specific people?Intelligence.... I want their eyes to glaze over when I squirm or squeal. I want them to smile when they catch me in a battle of wills and they know they will win. I want someone that says "hmm.. that's what happened when I did this.. .now what if I do THIS?"Empathy... I want someone that understands when I'm in a scene, I give my all. Paul Young- “Nevada's BDSM Sexual Assualt Trial-S03E35”“Sex assault trial gets underway in Nevada County courtroom” - By Liz Kellar (Staff Writer), February 17, 2021-https://www.theunion.com/news/sex-assault-trial-gets-underway-in-nevada-county-courtroom/ - The issue of consent — and whether a BDSM contract was enforced under duress — was the crux of the arguments of both prosecution and defense as the sexual assault trial of a 62-year-old man began Wednesday in Nevada County Superior Court.Wesley Carl Panighetti is facing felony charges of sodomy by use of force, forcible oral copulation, criminal threats, first-degree burglary and dissuading a witness, as well as one misdemeanor count of battery, Nevada County Superior Court records state.Panighetti has pleaded not guilty.Deputy District Attorney Helenaz Moteabbed Hill told the jury Panighetti and the victim had an on-again, off-again relationship riddled with abuse for 20 years.“This is a case about manipulation,” Hill said, adding that Panighetti had taken advantage of the victim’s naïveté and vulnerability and got what he wanted through menace and fear. His victim, Hill said, finally stood up for herself and put an end to the terror.According to Hill, a BDSM relationship — bondage, domination, sadomasochism — can exist with the consent of both parties, but that requires that both are playing “freely and voluntarily” on the same field. That was not the case between Panighetti and the victim, whose name was not used during the trial, she said.“He wants to claim consent existed through a legally valid contract,” Hill said. “She naively believed contact was binding simply because a notary signed off on it.”While Hill detailed some of the abuse sustained in years past — which led to several arrests and a prior prison sentence — Hill said the charged offenses all relate to three incidents that took place in May and June 2020, in which Panighetti is alleged to have sexually assaulted the victim, strangled her multiple times and threatened to kill her.The relationship was consensual and on occasion had been initiated or reinstated by the victim, said Panighetti’s attorney, Paul Comiskey. Comiskey cited the gaps in their involvement and the fact that the victim knew contact with Panighetti after his release from prison violated his parole terms.According to Comiskey, the victim had told Panighetti their contract was still valid, even after speaking to an attorney, and that implied her consent to the contract. And if that didn’t constitute consent on her part, he argued, Panighetti had a “good faith belief” there was consent to engage in a BDSM relationship.“Keep an open mind,” he urged the jury.The trial will resume today. Being a part of a Household or simply having many active years in the scene can very well make someone else feel like you hold more power and sway than they do, which makes it possible that this power can be abused.It does not always come from the top. Since what we engage in is a Power Exchange, bottoms hold a degree of power as well. Abuses of Power can come from a top, bottom, dominant, submissive, master, or slave. It can come from a well-seasoned kinkster who’s been in the scene for decades or the newbie just getting their feet wet. It can be wielded by anyone.When power is abused in the scene it can cause a multitude of problems, foremost of which is the victim who can suffer physically, mentally, psychologically, or even spiritually. As an abuse, the responsibility falls solely to the abuser, but the victim often carries the inner scars from it in the forms of distrust, depression, anxiety, and loss of self-worth amongst others.It is important to note that the primary concept here is that power has been used inappropriately. I have a collared submissive that I allowed to play with a previous play partner (They were formerly D/s primary play partners, but she was not collared and did not need permission to play with others) This is the first time they have played since I collared my sub, it's been almost a year since they played. We have never met in person only chatted on Kik, our communication has been respectful and the morning of the playdate I posted the rules to our group chat (the three of us) and then said Both of you have a wonderful time today. That's the last communication we have had. It's been 24 hours since they ended play.Now to my questions @Kuldrin and others1. What is the normal etiquette between Doms in this scenario? 2. However, I would send a message saying something to the effect of "I didn't have this in the rules because I didn't realize it needed to be but I am disappointed you haven't reached back out to me to say 'Thank you', give me an update of how things went on your side, or state intentions of future play." Paul Young- “My Partner Has a Fetish that's not for Me-S03E29”- Power dynamics come into play in ALL relationships to a degree.- Just because someone is dominant or submissive in the bedroom does not mean they are the same or opposite their day-to-day life. What happens in the bedroom doesn’t always reveal much about a person’s personality.- Many studies have shown that 80% of the population are switches. It is typically the situation or the other personalities around you that determine which side of the slash you take in the moment. - Before getting into the fun stuff, like communication and consent, let’s go ahead and knock out some red flags that need to be remembered. Red Flags for which to look:- In all circumstances, if you feel uneasy or scared, that is a sign you should either discuss some boundaries with your partner or reconsider your participation. While practices of rough sex and BDSM can be considered on the verge of violent play if at any moment you feel threatened or as though things have gone too far, it is important to stop.- If your instincts are making you feel uneasy.- If your partner threatens violence if you do not submit.- If you have ever felt as though the experience was more like rape or sexual assault.- If your partner makes you feel ugly or unwanted or treats you with disrespect.- If your basic needs are not being met, e.g., if they withhold things like medical treatment, water, food or clothing.- Communication: If you’re curious about BDSM, rough sex, or any other fetish that incorporates power play, communication is absolutely crucial, whether it’s with your partner in a committed relationship or something more casual. It also needs to be done preemptively, not in reaction to something.- Don’t wait until things feel uncomfortable.- Layout boundaries prior to engaging. Then once you get into playing, if you feel as though you may have misjudged things, it will be mentally easier for you to communicate that you have changed your mind about participating. It’s still a success if there is no harm done and everyone communicates openly and honestly.- Talking about boundaries with your partner doesn’t have to be awkward or uncomfortable, in fact, it can be sexy. You can go into explicit details around what you like and consider using the exercise as a way of foreplay.- Consent IS non-negotiable!- What if they’re into it and I’m not?It is normal for couples’ interests to not completely match up.
