Paul writes to the Thessalonian church about the prophetic events related to the Day of the Lord. He warns them about the great deception, the same deception Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24:24, “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” THE PROPHETIC EVENTS RELATED TO THE DAY OF THE LORD… 1. The great apostasy of the modern Church The great “falling away” prophesied by the Apostle Paul is a “super sign” that the rapture of the Church is near. While there have always been “Christians” and “churches” that have “fallen away,” it has never been as widespread and “en masse” as now. God describes the end-times “Church” as a “harlot” because she has prostituted the truth with lies! Revelation 17:5, “And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 2. The rapture of the true Church Paul is very clear that the Holy Spirit is currently restraining Satan and unmitigated evil from complete world dominion. It’s currently God’s Spirit in God’s people restraining Satanic wickedness from complete world domination. But when God’s Spirit leaves with God’s people at the rapture of the Church, all restraint will be removed too. 3. The emergence of the Antichrist The Antichrist will be a political leader who will unite the world into a global governance and a global system of commerce. He will broker a seven-year peace treaty with Israel and her enemies, allowing the Jews to rebuild their temple. (See Daniel 9:27) The temple must be rebuilt because the Jews will be worshiping in the temple at the time the Antichrist breaks the peace treaty midway through the tribulation. 4. The deception of the masses of humanity After the rapture, God will bring condemnation through a strong delusion on all those who had heard the truth of the gospel but had rejected it. There will be worldwide revival among those who have never heard the gospel prior to the rapture (Revelation 7). But those who knew the truth and rejected it will believe a lie and follow the Antichrist, damning their own souls. 5. The destruction of Satan’s kingdom Satan will reign through the Antichrist over a world kingdom for a short season. But his diabolical reign of terror will end with Christ’s return to the earth at the end of the seven-year tribulation. God counted the Thessalonians worthy because their faith was costly. A faith that costs nothing, demands nothing, and does nothing, is worth nothing. TRUE SAVING FAITH… Cannot be ruined in the fire of life’s trials Can only be refined SATAN TEMPTS. GOD TESTS. What Satan hopes will ruin your faith, God is using to refine your faith. The Thessalonian church lived for Jesus. How? They had irresistible leadership and irresistible devotion. WHAT DID THEIR LEADERSHIP LOOK LIKE? 1 Thessalonians 5:14-15… “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all. See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.” They… Warned those who were not walking in alignment with the Spirit Comforted those who were weak and fainthearted Were patient Pursued what was good WHAT DID THEIR DEVOTION LOOK LIKE? 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22… “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” They… Rejoiced in all things Prayed in all things Gave thanks in all things The Thessalonian church knew Jesus and the will of God. They did not quench the Spirit and tested all things! The Church today can learn from the Thessalonians. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.Today when a Christian dies, their body goes into the grave, but their soul goes immediately to heaven in God’s presence. (See 2 Corinthians 5:4-8)2 Corinthians 5:4-8, For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.When Jesus returns, the bodies of those who have died in Christ will rise from the grave to be reunited with their souls. (See 1 Corinthians 15:35-58, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. What is the rapture?The rapture is where Christ returns FOR His bride. The Second Coming is when Christ returns WITH His bride. (See 2 Corinthians 11:1-2)2 Corinthians 11:1-2, Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me. For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. We should be preparing to see Jesus by pursuing a life that is holy and living for the things of eternity.1 Thessalonians 4:17-18, Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.Why is this comforting?Very soon, there will be no more sin. Sickness. Sadness. Death. Destruction. Darkness. Depression. 1 Corinthians 2:9, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”Life is a “vapor.” Are you ready for when you close your eyes in time and open them up in eternity? 

The Thessalonians were known for their “irresistible holiness.” First Thessalonians 4:7 says, “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.” To be holy means to be set apart, separated for a purpose. God calls us to be separated from sexual immorality to pursue lives that are holy. HOLINESS “…but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy.’”—1 Peter 1:15-16 HOW DOES GOD’S WORD DEFINE SEXUAL IMMORALITY? Sexual immorality is defined as any sexual activity outside of marriage between a man and a woman. “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”—Hebrews 13:4 “And He answered and said to them, ‘Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning “made them male and female.”’”—Matthew 19:4 God does not consider something morally acceptable just because it feels natural to you. Sin comes naturally to us all! (See Romans 3:23) Discover how Jesus came not to affirm our sin and celebrate our lifestyle choices. The Thessalonians were a church of “irresistible influence” because they were a church of “irresistible leadership.” A Kingdom leader’s mission is to make disciples who make disciples, which means everyone is called to be someone’s leader. THE MARKS OF AN EFFECTIVE KINGDOM LEADER… 1 Thessalonians 3:1-2 says… “Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone, and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith…” KINGDOM LEADERS EMPOWER OTHERS! The Apostle Paul EMPOWERED TIMOTHY, a younger man who would lead the second generation in the early Church. Paul knew that a MULTIPLYING MOVEMENT demands multiplying leaders. There is no movement apart from multiplication. Paul DEVELOPED and DEPLOYED deployed Timothy to minister through him, not merely to him. Paul had discipled Timothy, who was now being sent to disciple the Thessalonians. KINGDOM LEADERS LOVE OTHERS! You cannot lead people you don’t love. You can be their boss, manager, dictator, or teacher. But you cannot be their leader. Paul was more concerned with how the Thessalonians were doing than what they were doing. He was willing to SUFFER with them and SACRIFICE for them. If you’re not “bleeding,” you’re not really leading because you’re not really loving. Loving others requires sacrifice. KINGDOM LEADERS SUBMIT TO OTHERS! Kingdom leaders SUBMIT to others. You will never be a great or godly leader apart from HUMILITY and SUBMISSION to AUTHORITY. You will never be an effective leader if you are not an effective FOLLOWER. KINGDOM LEADERS ARE THANKFUL FOR OTHERS! Kingdom leaders don’t see people as “human resources” but as human beings. The Thessalonians were a church of irresistible influence because they were a church of irresistible life change. Their changed lives were unexplainable yet undeniable! Discover how God’s Word changed them and can change you! HOW GOD’S WORD WORKS IN YOU TO CHANGE YOU… IT MUST BE RECEIVED. A changed life begins with a new birth by the “seed” of God’s Word.
