What to Do When Life Doesn’t Go as Planned
What do you do when the worst thing you can imagine becomes your reality? What do you do when life doesn’t go as planned and takes a detour?
Job’s story is a well-known story of grief, perseverance, and patience. His life was on track then disaster hit. His life went from bad to worse.
But does Job’s story also give us a pattern of how to respond when life gets messy? Yes!
Job did 3 things during the difficult season written about in the Bible. When examining the aspects of his story, you will know what to do when life doesn’t go as planned.
WHAT JOB DID IN THE TRIALS OF LIFE
1. Job made a choice.
Job fell to the ground and worshiped God. He acknowledged that the Lord gives and takes away. He praised the name of the Lord despite his circumstances.
Determine the choice you will make now before the trial comes so you are prepared to persevere when life doesn’t go as planned.
2. Job wrestled with God.
Often, we think we can never question God. God can handle our doubts and questions. He wants us to bring those to Him. It is healthy to wrestle with God when life doesn’t go as planned. It forces us to ask why we believe what we believe and gives us an opportunity for deeper and stronger faith.
Know it is okay to bring all your doubts and questions to God. He wants to hear from you.
3. Job realized God was God, and he was not.
Some things happen in life that we don’t understand. It is possible we aren’t meant to at the time. The reality is, the WHO is greater than the why. Job learned through his wrestling with God that God was bigger than all his questions and problems.
Remember and reflect on God’s sovereignty and our limited abilities.

Castles Part 6 – What Does the Bible Say About Discipline and Christian Parenting?
The goal of discipline in Christian parenting is to aim our children toward God so they become godly people – not just “good” people! If your aim is anything less than for your kids to be godly, you have the wrong aim.
Every castle has walls and gates. Walls are for protection, and gates are for preparation. Biblical Christian parenting calls us to shape our children’s hearts into Christlikeness.
How to shape a child’s heart into godly character qualities:
• Teach them to submit to authority.
• Teach them to obey instantly.
• Teach them humility and to make others their priority.
• Teach them the gospel of what Jesus did at Calvary.
• Teach them to give their heart to Jesus.

Castles Part 3 – Biblical Roles in Marriage
In marriage, there is no struggle for control of the throne when Jesus alone sits on the throne of your home. The way to end the battle of the sexes and establish roles in marriage is for men and women to get off the throne and let God build their homes!
IF YOU DON’T WANT A MARRIAGE ON THE ROCKS, DON’T ROCK THE ROLLS
Responsibilities are interchangeable; roles aren’t!
In marriage, men and women are equal, but we’re not the same – we differ in function. Our society has tried to reverse the roles, erase the roles, and rock the roles, but it’s God who ultimately defines the roles in marriage!
SUBMISSION IS WHAT ENDS THE COMPETITION
God’s blessing on the family always flows through a chain of command. The key to overcoming marital conflict and division is mutual submission. When a husband and wife are in submission to God, they will naturally be in submission to each other.
God puts authority in our lives not to oppress us but to protect and bless us. The wife submits to her husband’s lead, and the husband submits to his wife’s needs! When a man and a woman choose humility and submit to their spiritual authority, God brings peace and prosperity to their family.
Join Pastor Phil as he further unpacks the roles in marriage and God’s expectations for husbands and wives.

Castles Part 2 - What Does the Bible Say about Marriage?
In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus teaches us what the Bible says about marriage. He reminds us that the foundation for your house – your marriage – must be the Rock, the Lord Jesus Christ!
WHAT A CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE SHOULD LOOK LIKE
We live in a time of self-idolatry and anarchy. Homes around us are suffering because couples aren’t willing to die to their flesh and serve their spouses. When you say, “I do,” at the altar, you say, “I die,” too. A Christian marriage should be filled with…
The fear of the Lord – submitting to God’s authority brings peace instead of anarchy.
Obedience to God’s Word – we can’t live abundantly apart from living obediently.
When your house becomes God’s house, your home can survive a firestorm of destruction.
THE BIBLICAL FRAMEWORK OF MARRIAGE
Marriage is about a commission (Genesis 2:18). Adam did not need someone to complete him but rather someone to help in his God-given commission.
Marriage is about a crucifixion (Genesis 2:19-22). Adam “died” giving life to his bride like Jesus died giving life to His bride, the Church.
Marriage is about a covenant (Genesis 2:23-24). Adam understood the covenant nature of his relationship with his bride, saying, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh.”
Marriage is about a companion (Genesis 2:25). Adam and Eve were “naked” and “not ashamed” both physically and spiritually. They were fully known and fully loved in perfect intimacy.
Christian marriage is not built on a contract but a binding, unbreakable, and irrevocable covenant. Contracts are built on terms and conditions that can be voided, but a covenant is unconditional and unbreakable. The Bible says marriage is a picture of the covenant relationship between Christ and His bride—the Church. If you want your marriage to be blessed by God, you must choose to submit to His way today.
Join Pastor Phil as he illustrates what the Bible says about marriage using examples of castles built on the rock that have withstood the test of time.

Castles Part 1-Let Jesus Be the Foundation of Your House
You might build a house, but only the Lord can build your home. If your house is not built on the firm foundation of God’s Word, it will not be able to withstand the storms of life.
YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT LOCATION AND THE RIGHT FOUNDATION!
The difference between homes that last and homes that don’t are where they’re built and how they’re built! You must make the Son of God the location and the Word of God your foundation.
HOW YOU LET THE LORD BUILD YOUR HOUSE:
• Let the Word of God be your foundation, and Jesus be your location.
• Submit to God’s authority.
• Commit your life to the Son of God and choose to obey the Word of God
Jesus is the ultimate builder of any home, and He alone must determine its placement and position. Apart from submitting to God’s authority, our families will be in anarchy. You cannot be blessed by God apart from living obediently to God.
Join Pastor Phil Hopper to learn more about how to build your house on the firm foundation of God’s Word.

A Study of Thessalonians (Part 12) | What Does God Say About Hard Work?
In 2 Thessalonians 3, Paul teaches us how what God says about hard work, how we should work, and the mentality we are to have about work.
WHY GOD CALLS US TO WORK
• God calls us to work because it reflects our dependence on Him, using His strength and resting in His grace and love as we further His Kingdom.
• God calls us to work so we aren’t a burden to others but also to help and provide for those who can’t work.
The Bible tells us that we are God’s workmanship and created in Jesus to do good works, which He prepared in advance for us. So then, when we work and engage with those around us to glorify God, we are fulfilling what God designed us to do.
2 THESSALONIANS 3:9-14 TELLS US HOW TO WORK AND WHAT IT DOES
• “... not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us. For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread. But as for you, brethren, do not grow weary in doing good. And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.”
Join Pastor Chad Glover as he further unpacks 5 things hard work does.
• Sets an example (vs. 9)
• Provides for people (vs. 10)
• Prevents disorder (vs. 11)
• Makes you weary (vs. 13)
• Brings honor (vs. 14)
