Unleashing Your Endurance Mindset - Travis Macy - Chief Endurance Officer - Episode # 028
Today’s guest is an endurance coach, speaker, and a consultant who empowers individuals and groups to reach their goals in business, education, athletics, and life. He is the author of his new book, A Mile at a Time, and author of the award winning book, The Ultra Mindset. Host of his own self titled podcast, The Travis Macy Show, please welcome, Travis Macy! Travis partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how he draws on his endurance athlete resilience, reflecting on his love for teaching, and maintaining a healthy athlete’s routine. He also delves into his books and his inspiration for writing. Takeaways:Travis prioritizes his kids' interests and doesn't push his own on them. If they gravitate toward his interests, like running or biking together, it's fulfilling to him. Travis is committed to supporting their own passions. Going through a challenging transition where he questioned his identity beyond being a competitive athlete, Travis struggled with a void left by not constantly pursuing podium finishes, prizes, and sponsorships. His resilience and adaptability as an endurance athlete eventually helped him keep the faith. The core of Travis’ income comes from coaching adult endurance athletes, which is a natural extension of his life as an athlete. He’s always enjoyed teaching and pedagogy, and coaching allows him to teach what he loves. This approach extends to his podcasting, writing, and business approach.Maintaining an athlete's routine provides stability amidst change, improving mood, outlook, and energy. Exercising in the morning greatly enhances Travis’ professional productivity and overall well-being, benefiting both work and family life."The Ultra Mindset," Travis’ first book from 2015, explores eight core principles for success in business, sports, and life, using engaging endurance sports narratives as examples. It's meant to be applicable beyond athletics. In contrast, "A Mile at a Time," released in March of this year, is a memoir centered around Travis’ father's journey through Alzheimer's. It offers some prescriptive content but primarily focuses on their personal story and his dad’s life.Adventure racing is a challenging, dynamic, and niche sport that combines various disciplines like running, paddling, biking, fixed ropes, and navigation using a map and compass. Races are unmarked courses, often lasting nonstop for five to ten days. Teams usually consist of four people of mixed gender, emphasizing the team sport aspect.Quote of the Show:"Get out there and tow the line even in the midst of uncertainty." - Travis MacyLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-macy-92607633/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/travismacy/Twitter: https://twitter.com/travismacy?lang=en Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/6HJbxKnHc4rsCxyx9PrAa3 Book: www.travismacy.com/books Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@chiefenduranceofficerpodcastTransistor: https://www.chiefenduranceofficer.com/Keep up to date on our social media accounts:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@chiefenduranceofficer?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. From Diagnosis to Dedication - BethAnn Telford - Chief Endurance Officer - Episode # 027
Welcome to another captivating episode! Today’s guest is someone who was born with an endurance mindset! Introducing BethAnn Telford, Special Events Coordinator at the US Government partners with host Gregory McDonough to share how her cancer diagnosis motivated her to keep persevering through life. BethAnn also delves into her biggest motivation, her passion for running, and how she gives back to the community. Takeaways:After being diagnosed with brain cancer several years ago, BethAnn initially considered giving up. However, thanks to her neurosurgeon’s support, she found the strength to persevere. Her motivation wasn’t personal glory, but rather her cancer journey and the people who supported her. Midway through the 5k, in her hometown, BethAnn’s father surprised her by joining her through a different route. His encouragement, reignited her passion for running after her brain surgery. His motivation during that 5k ultimately led her to compete in an Ironman.John has been BethAnn’s primary trainer not only for global adventures but also in nutrition and various aspects. He integrated seamlessly with her family and her partner, Bob, serving as their biggest cheerleaders, reminding them of how far she’s come. Support and motivation come from various sources, including trainers, family, friends, and even strangers at the finish line. Sometimes it's about giving back and helping others, running alongside them even if they're not as fast. A sense of accomplishment in assisting someone else can be incredibly rewarding, and BethAnn’s been fortunate to have people who supported her, even if it meant sacrificing their own time, just because they wanted to see her succeed.Veterans Day is the most important event to BethAnn. Her gratitude for veterans motivates her to give back. Despite not serving in the military, she annually supports and advocates for veterans at places like the Vietnam Wall and Arlington National Cemetery. Advocating for children with brain cancer helped BethAnn see that they received far less support than adults. This drove her to become a dedicated advocate for children's healthcare. Building bonds with these kids, some now in college or getting married, underscores the significance of her advocacy efforts.Quote of the Show:"The joy of giving back is more rewarding than receiving." - BethAnn TelfordLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bethann-telford-a62080b2/ Personal Website: http://www.teambt.org/Email: teambt@verizon.netWays to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ YouTube: https://youtu.be/hgMRglz6KpA Keep up to date on our social media accounts:TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@chiefenduranceofficer?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/chiefenduranceofficerpodcast/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/C_E_Opodcast Chief Endurance Officer is produced by Ringmaster, on a mission to create connections through B2B podcasts. His mission is to unwaveringly pursue success, connect with a billion people, and change the world.Approaching goals can reset one’s mindset, and for Mo, it falls within sports or business. Goal-setting is crucial, and when plans deviate, it's about constant progress. This mindset helped him become more comfortable in situations like public speaking, where he honed his skills at Toastmasters International.Initially, Mo took pride in hearing that people in peer groups felt closer to their peers than their best friends or family. However, he realized that peer groups are meant to help individuals become their best selves, not replace their close relationships.Forum Resources Network provides consulting services for both peer groups and executive leadership teams. The same effective principles that apply to peer groups are extended to executive teams when CEOs seek dynamic and open communication. This work is highly rewarding and meaningful for them.Quote of the Show:“There is no failure. He also delves into the value of an optimistic mindset, how to build and maintain healthy company culture, and his personal wisdom when it comes to cardio fitness. Takeaways:In 2016, with an enduring mindset, David clung to any shred of realistic optimism and hope, just putting one foot in front of the other. Fortunately, things started to improve that year, and it was the catalyst he needed to turn his lifelong dream into reality.David loved the freedom of being his own boss. So, after four years of this being his side hustle, he was motivated to make it his full-time job. Transitioning this from a side venture to a full-time commitment helped him focus on his passion for fitness and products.Crossrope has used their community's insights to improve jump rope fitness with unique features. These include personalized targets, heart rate-based training via Apple Watch, and community leaderboards for engaging tailored workouts that motivate through friendly competition. David is a firm believer in the Stockdale Paradox, which highlights maintaining blind optimism can be detrimental. It’s not about continuous optimism. This approach has helped retain their high-performing team and maintain a strong company culture. This value sets them apart from common practices that often mask underlying issues within a company. Finding himself excessively training, David thought of purchasing a jump rope which quickly became a full-fledged fitness tool and a core element of his fitness routine. It filled the gap for cardio training, making it fun, engaging, and accessible on the go. David wanted to share his personal knowledge and experiences, but lacking formal personal trainer certifications and a sports science degree made that difficult. Instead, he created a YouTube channel which included workout videos, challenges, and workout PDF’s.Quote of the Show:“It is my job as the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Endurance Officer to set the right mindset for the team around the expectations." - David HuntLinks:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-hunt-crossrope/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/Crossrope Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/crossropejumpropes/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@crossrope Company website: https://www.crossrope.com/Organization: https://hub.eonetwork.org/ Ways to Tune In:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/580aLDKac1ld031W4nWDtp Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/chief-endurance-officer/id1680214218?uo=4Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy50cmFuc2lzdG9yLmZtL2NoaWVmLWVuZHVyYW5jZS1vZmZpY2Vy Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/3c96880f-8dcd-4a6e-b1c8-fda816f872a9 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4340732 Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/show/5897357 Player FM: https://player.fm/series/series-3462719 Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-5250102 Listen Notes: https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/chief-endurance-officer-ringmaster-KMdv2I8XwkN/ YouTube: https://youtu.be/n2M-qNyni-Y

The Inner Game of Winning - Gary Sanchez - Chief Endurance Officer - Episode # 021
Welcome to another captivating episode! Today’s guest is an outstanding podcast host, an endurance achiever, and a dominating Racquetball professional! Introducing Gary Sanchez, Chief Executive Officer at WHY Institute, Co-Owner at Sanchez Dental Associates, and CEO at The HealthChair. Gary teams up with host Gregory McDonough to explore the distinction between practicing and playing. Gary also shares insights on how to secure a victory before even stepping onto the field.Takeaways:The endurance mindset has impacted Gary’s life unexpectedly from finding his way around sports. He started with basketball but soon realized that it wasn’t fitting what his aspirations were. He came upon Racquetball which soon led to him becoming the world champion by competing in 52 games within 5 days. He learned how to compete and how to push his limits to score high goals. When starting with Racquetball, Gary didn’t know how to play very well. He would spend countless hours in front of a mirror perfecting his swing and stances to train his muscles on how to operate the racquet. He learned a system for finding success in this sport by copying himself in the mirror. After reading a book called The Inner Game of Tennis, Gary learned a lot more about competing. He learned about the outer game of being able to have good mechanics to hit the ball and create amazing stamina, then he learned the inner game of how to compete. In your mind, it is important to motivate yourself and teach yourself how to win before stepping foot on the court.Gary believes that there is an art to winning and an art to losing, once you learn how to win, it translates into everything around you. This led him to become more tactical with endurance sports. What Gary has learned over the years of endurance sports is if you have trained to do a sport one way, then once you are tired, you will only know that one way to do it. It is important to learn different ways to play so you don’t run your battery out quickly. Over the years of endurance sports, Gary has learned that being competitive isn’t always the best thing. There's more to competitive sports and coaching. Coaching his young daughters taught him how to enjoy the game versus hyper-focusing on winning. Will partner with host Gregory McDonough to share his insights on working hard to overcome road bumps and building a strong foundation for yourself. Will also delve into the importance of concluding your race with strength and giving it your utmost effort to cross the finish line!Takeaways:The enduring mindset has impacted Will unexpectedly by motivating him to work really hard by meticulously preparing for any and all events that cross his path. He has overcome the mindset of not being perfect, and instead, created space to work hard and achieve whatever goal he has in front of him.Setting up patterns and rhythms is the best way to show your team that you appreciate and acknowledge all the hard work they do. Will believes that it should be required that these focus times include gifts, handwritten sentiments, or quality time with various team members. Doing these gifts and appreciation times will help create a human connection and motivates his team to run a better race. The sooner you can do something, learn something, or master something, the better. It is crucial to dedicate yourself to time and invest in culture with people because there will always be bumps in the road that are unavoidable. Will highly suggest having a solid team as your safety net.By embodying self-initiative, a strong work ethic, kindness, generosity, and employees can contribute to a positive work culture. This can promote innovation, effective communication, and the overall growth of the organization. At IT Voice, they strive to show great support to their dedicated customers by advancing their customer service. From traditional desktop and network services to more modern-day technology, they are eager to turn any complex work into a simple service for their customers. While AI has gained popularity and becomes a handy tool for many, it doesn’t have the capability to acquire genuine cognitive reasoning. As AI abbreviates the route to solutions and expedites the journey for some, it shortens the path for others. Will expresses the importance of being a part of a team that shares different skill sets as it helps everyone learn to adapt and take into consideration one another’s attributes. Understanding your lack in an area could be someone else’s strength, is a strength in and of itself.
