EFR 708: Four Ways to Stop Breaking Promises to Yourself

“How do I keep promises I make to myself?” This is a question I get asked a lot, and it’s one that all of us can benefit from knowing the answer to. The ability to make and keep promises directly impacts our level of success in everything we do—whether it’s a promise to go to the gym regularly or stick to a diet, to double down on a side hustle or a relationship, or to follow through on writing a book or starting a podcast. Listen in as I talk about the common reasons we don’t stick to our own promises, and why we shouldn’t beat ourselves up when we fail to meet our own standards. I also share four powerful tips for making better promises and seeing them through to fruition!   Follow Chase @chase_chewning   Key Highlights The word “promise” can be used as either a noun or a verb. As a noun, a promise is “a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing, or that a particular thing will happen.” As a verb, when you promise something, you “undertake or declare that something will happen,” or “give good grounds for expecting a particular occurrence or situation.” Promises can quickly become too strict a commitment that holds too much emotionally-negative weight when not kept. If you’re constantly beating yourself up over broken promises, try changing your definition of “promise” from that of a noun to a verb. That means committing to the path rather than the destination. It means committing to the pursuit of the goal: the process, baby steps, and small wins required to accomplish what you set out to do. We know that we can keep getting away with broken promises when the only person we’re accountable to is ourselves. Take the pressure off of yourself by sharing your commitments with people you’re comfortable confiding in. This not only helps you grow your sphere of accountability beyond yourself, but it also allows you to gain precious feedback from those you trust. Lean into positive reinforcement. Reward yourself only for promises you actually keep, and dismiss the promises you fail to keep. When you assign feelings of happiness, contentment, and fulfillment to small kept promises, you’re more likely to follow through with larger promises. If there’s a particular promise that you’re continually breaking not long after making it, consider that you don’t really want it. For the sake of your mental health and the likelihood of fulfilling all other future promises you make to yourself, you might want to walk away from that one promise you keep failing to commit to. EFR 706: One Year of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and Why I am Stopping

Chase here! In this solo episode, I’m breaking down why I started testosterone replacement therapy a year ago. I share my results almost 15 months later and why I’ve decided to stop. If you’ve followed my TRT journey on social media, you’ve seen my dosages, you’ve seen how I’ve changed physically, and you’ve seen how my numbers have gone up at the gym. But there’s a lot that I haven’t shared yet. I haven’t shared how I’ve administered my dosages, nor the side effects I’ve experienced. Listen in as I come clean about my testosterone replacement therapy journey, from why I started in the first place, to specifics regarding my labs and personal regimen, and why my journey is coming to an end. Follow me on Instagram @chase_chewning Key Highlights I was determined to enter my 37th birthday in October 2022 as the best me possible. I didn’t just want to look at my best. I wanted to feel at my best. I was no slouch at 36. I was doing great physically, and I felt it. But I knew there was room for fine-tuning. I became more regimented, both inside and outside the gym, but being in my mid-30s, I began to struggle with keeping up that level of motivation. Not to mention it was tough to maintain my body composition despite my increased efforts. This was why I decided to explore TRT to provide that edge. If you’re considering TRT, the very first thing you should do is check in with yourself. Do a head-to-toe scan and be as objective as you can, and even a little critical, about what you see and feel. Get clear on what you want out of your day and out of your training. Compare those ideals with your current day-to-day realities. Always keep in mind that TRT is not a quick fix—not that you should ever pursue anything because it’s a quick fix anyway! I ultimately decided to stop testosterone replacement therapy for two reasons. The first was that I experienced skin issues that slightly impacted my social life. Secondly, even though TRT did not negatively impact my sexual activity, I’ve recently decided to prioritize my fertility health over my muscle mass. These two reasons are why, after 14 months, I’ve begun to titrate down and eventually go off TRT completely. EFR 704: How I Remove Limiting Beliefs, Live Intentionally, Set Boundaries & Stay Committed to Myself

I recently sat down with Eli Weinstein to share my decades-long journey to discovering and embracing the real Chase Chewning! It’s a journey that reached its critical point when I turned 35 during the COVID outbreak in 2020. Like everyone else, my world was flipped on its head, and I’d started questioning deep-seated beliefs I’d held all my life. My goal? To rid myself of the beliefs that didn’t serve me and replace them with beliefs that do. The one question that I always asked myself, whether or not I was conscious of it, was: “Do I feel safe?” And ultimately, that boiled down to yet another question: “Am I loved?” And if I felt no safety or love at any moment—in holding onto a given belief, in interacting with a certain individual, in inhabiting a particular room—then I gained the clarity and the courage to climb over those walls that kept me in and found my freedom. Eli and I give our thoughts on the process of living an intentional life with a full commitment to oneself, from setting healthy boundaries, to avoiding a life lived in fear of other people’s opinions, to the true meaning of living life ever forward.   Follow me on Instagram @chase_chewning Follow me on TikTok @chase_chewning   Key Highlights We take a lot of our beliefs for granted, mainly because we lived our whole lives up to this point assuming they were fundamental “truths”. But if we really sit down and think about those beliefs, we can determine which of them serve us and which of them are nothing more than destructive forces that impede our growth. When we find ourselves needing to walk away from someone in our life who no longer supports our mental or emotional health, we need to fall back on our boundaries. It’s easier said than done to create strong, healthy boundaries, but we need them in order to stay in a constant state of safety, security, and love. We fall into selfishness when we rely on others to dictate our moral compass. This can be as serious as having our values shaped by other people or as insignificant as wearing certain clothes to avoid being judged in a certain way by those around us. Living life “ever forward” comes down to sharing lessons learned from significant, often difficult, life experiences with others, whether through conversations or creating content or even monetizing those lessons through a product.
