Shaun Flores on why we need to destigmatise OCD

I am so thrilled to be joined today by a man on a mission to raise awareness of the reality of OCD, Shaun Flores. When people talk about OCD, they often talk about it as a quirk or something almost productive, but anyone who lives with OCD knows this couldn’t be further from the truth. Shaun Flores has suffered from OCD since he was 27. He initially struggled with obsessive thoughts about his sexuality and it quickly moved on to harm, in particular sexual assault. When these thoughts initially took hold, Shaun became depressed and life became a burden he no longer wanted to carry. In today’s episode, Shaun shares his story and talks about why there is an urgent need to develop new and better treatments for OCD - something which is also a big passion of mine. I hope for anyone listening who is living with OCD, that Shaun’s story will reassure you that you can in fact emerge stronger and better.Find more information on Shaun: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theshaunflores/?hl=enFollow Hurt to Healing on Instagram: @hurttohealingpod--A big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. HEALING 101: The many benefits of functional medicine with Deirdre Nazareth

On today's HEALING 101, we are joined by Deirdre, or as I like to call her, Dede Nazareth, a friend of mine and a functional osteopath. Functional and osteopathic medicine both seek to find the root cause of illness by asking 'why' and considering things that may seem unrelated, such as treating skin conditions by treating the gut or treating headaches by analysing joints in the upper back. This practice understands that the body has an inherent capacity to heal itself when given what it needs and aims to restore balance in order to achieve total health and wellbeing. I can't wait to talk to DeDe today, who will discuss how we can use the functional medicine approach to improve our mental health.Find Deirdre Nazareth: Website: https://thefunctionalosteopath.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thefunctionalosteopath/?hl=enFollow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpodA big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. Anne Robinson on her inspiring recovery from alcoholism

I am honoured to be joined by Anne Robinson, established television presenter and journalist known for her assertive views and her frosty presenting style on one of my all time favourite game shows, The Weakest Link. In the 1960s, Anne was the first young female trainee at the Daily Mail newspaper. She worked at The Sunday Times and The Daily Mirror and then went on to host programmes such as Watchdog to Channel Four's Countdown. However, in her mid-thirties Anne began to drum up a reputation for being a heavy drinker, which began to overshadow her work. And after a fierce custody battle with her ex-husband, she lost joint custody of her daughter, then aged just two. This was the turning point that led to her seeking help and in today's interview Anne opens up about her battle with addiction and what got her onto the road to recovery. HEALING 101: How to feel more resilient to life's challenges with Dr Sam Akbar

In today's episode, I'm joined in the studio by a clinical psychologist with more than ten years of experience. Dr. Sam Akbar specialises in treating refugees with PTSD who have been tortured, survive war or sexual violence. And in 2022 released a book called Stress Alien How to Beat Stress and Build Resilience. There is no denying that life is stressful. We are living in a post-pandemic world where 81% of women are overworked, overwhelmed and exhausted. But Dr. Sam Akbar's book is just what every woman needs to feel calmer, less stressed, and more resilient to life's challenges.Today, I ask her about what we can do to develop more resilience, to cope with the ups and downs of life. How we can start understanding our minds more and why our brains waste into focus on the negative. So if you're feeling overwhelmed, trapped, or a little bit anxious today, this might just be the conversation you need to hear.
