Battling schizophrenia and one life changing moment with Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn
I am thrilled to be joined by not one but two wonderful men for today's episode. Jonny Benjamin and Neil Laybourn first met in early 2008 when Neil approached Jonny who was sitting on the edge of Waterloo Bridge and asked if he was alright. The conversation that followed changed their lives forever. Fast forward 14 years and a huge social media campaign later and the two are not only great friends but work together to improve the public's understanding of mental health and to champion suicide prevention.Their story proves the role we can all play in helping each other and has helped to eradicate the stigma that surrounds schizophrenia and suicide by bravely sharing their story. They have opened doors for so many others to do the same. I'm so thrilled to be talking to them both today and to hear about how that day changed both their lives. This conversation really struck a chord with me. It's powerful, inspiring, and proves that we can have faith in humanity. HEALING 101: What to eat for anxiety with Rosemary Ferguson
I'm thrilled to be joined today by former model, turned nutritional therapist and author, Rosemary Ferguson. Food is a tricky subject for many of us, myself included, and I was keen to find out what sparked her interest in nutrition, having come from a modelling background qualifying as a nutritionist and naturopath in 2009. Whereas now she works from a central London clinic whilst writing for publications such as Vogue and Tatler. Rosemary is passionate about the power of good nutrition and is very vocal about how crucial our diets are for reducing anxiety and ultimately improving our mental health. Alexandra Shulman on her crippling anxiety and rejecting stereotypes
I am thrilled to be joined today by one of my career idols, Alexandra Shulman. Alexandra is a former British Vogue editor, the longest standing editor in Vogue's history and someone I've looked up to for many years. You may have thought that she had it all, but even the strongest of people are fighting their own battles. Today, I wanted to ask her about her life before Vogue, how she felt when she was criticised for not looking like the stereotypical Vogue editor and how she coped juggling both motherhood and an unstoppable career. I'm so grateful to Alex for opening up on this episode and for sharing her vulnerabilities as it just proves how insecurities have an impact on all of us.Find more information on Alexandra: Instagram: @alexandrashulmanTwitter: @ashulman2Follow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpod--A big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. Why we still fail to recognise PTSD with Radhika Sanghani
I am honoured to be joined for today's episode by the award winning journalist and author Radhika Sanghani. Radhika regularly writes on women's issues and lifestyle topics for titles such as The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Guardian, the BBC, Grazia and Elle Magazine. Radhika also gave an extremely successful TEDx talk called How to Love Yourself and is now a body positive campaigner. Her third novel, which was published at the start of 2022, is called 30 Things I Love About Myself and is loosely based on her own self-love journey. You might be sitting there thinking Radhika has had it easy and has a career that you can't help but be jealous of. But the truth is, Radhika has had her own struggles. In her twenties, she was diagnosed with PTSD as a result of a coach crash that she survived in Thailand. She wrote an article about how she struggled to come to terms with her own situation because of the way society as a whole views this mental health disorder as a result of her own experience. She is working towards redefining our definition of PTSD and is working towards crushing the stigma that still surrounds it.Find more information on Radhika: Instagram: @radhikasanghaniTwitter: @radhikasanghaniFollow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpod--A big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout. HEALING 101: What is OCD? with Professor David Veale
I am honoured to be joined today by Professor David Veale, a consultant psychiatrist in London who specialises in obsessive compulsive disorder. As you might already know, I have frustratingly suffered from this mental health condition for many years now, but it always amazes me how little people actually know about it. The aim of this episode is to ask Professor Veale the questions you might have never had the opportunity to ask and to educate those of you who might want to know more about the condition and how you might be able to treat it. So whether it's beneficial for you or for a friend, I hope that this episode with Professor David Veale helps put OCD into simple terms. Recovering from eating disorders and changing the way we speak to ourselves with Emmy Brunner
Today, I'm joined by the wonderful Emmy Brunner. Emmy is a master of many. She's a psychotherapist, personal empowerment and transformation coach, hypnotherapist, CEO of the Recover Clinic in London and a bestselling author. As a teenager, Emmy suffered from anorexia and had a tendency to self-harm which led her into a series of abusive relationships. It was only when she had a baby that she realised something had to change. Emmy then left her partner and worked hard at improving her life for herself and her daughter, realising she'd created a valuable toolkit for herself. She decided to train as a psychotherapist and to set up The Recover Clinic. Emmy specialises in helping people recover from anxiety, eating disorders and depression. And in today's episode, we talk about how to have a better relationship with ourselves, how to break free from your own rules, and the holistic approach to treatment where we can take into account both the mind and the body. An interview with Anneka Rice on my mental health journey
I wanted to start the podcast with a very special episode and an incredibly special person who has known me for many years. Anneka Rice is a TV presenter, radio host, author and artist who has known me since I was a little girl. She's witnessed a lot of my journey, and I thought there was no better way to begin the podcast than to have her to ask me a few questions so that you can all get to know me a little better and understand why I'm really doing this podcast. Anneka has witnessed my ongoing struggle with OCD and an eating disorder. In this interview she asks me about my early childhood and the impact that it might have had on my mental health, my school life and the early manifestations of the OCD and anorexia. We also discuss what help I have received over the years and how I struggled during my 20s and battled my illnesses alongside being a lawyer. This conversation will hopefully give you a bit of an insight into my journey and as the series continues you will get to know me more!Follow Hurt to Healing on Instagram:@hurttohealingpod--A big thank you our wonderful charity partner Shout.
