105. Is going plant-based the solution to climate change? With Robby Sansom

Robby’s roots run deep in the natural food community. Previously, as CFO/COO at EPIC, Robby spent much of the last decade studying regenerative agriculture at ranches all over the world. Through this education, Force of Nature was co-founded with the intention to accelerate the creation of a global regenerative supply network. Force of Nature works in partnership with land stewards, ranchers and farmers committed to creating a positive return on the planet. With Force of Nature, consumers now have the ability to invest in environmental regeneration by consuming meat that is good for the planet. Born and raised in Austin, TX, he received both a bachelor’s degree and a master's degree from the University of Texas. When he’s not building businesses aimed at saving the planet, Robby can be found on a trail, ocean, mountain or field, always making time to appreciate nature and explore his surroundings. Robby is also a land steward at ROAM Ranch where he owns regeneratively managed bison.   Time stamps 0:10:02 Podcast begins 0:11:00 The complex topic of climate change: what are Robby's initial thoughts? 0:22:20 Why do we think that cows cause climate change in the first place? 0:32:10 The truth about methane and it's affect on climate change 0:34:30 How does raising cows differently change the way they impact our planet? 0:41:40 Animals and plants together makes a healthy ecosystem, you cannot have a healthy monocropped ecosystem 0:45:15 A visual difference of monocropped and regenerative farmland 0:49:00 Organic is not regenerative 0:53:30 The reason there is so much amazing soil in the US is because there were millions of ruminants on our land 0:57:15 Can we scale regenerative beef and feed enough people this way? 1:04:00 When you buy regenerative beef, you are helping support change in the US 1:06:00 Healthy soil is vital for our ecosystems to let rain infiltrate 1:16:20 We need to walk backwards and correct the worst decision we have ever made 1:18:45 Healthy soil is much more resilient 1:23:30 We don't need new technology, because there is no limit to how much carbon we can take out of the atmosphere when we switch towards regenerative agriculture 1:35:15 The price of purchasing grass-fed/finished vs. conventional meat 1:42:00 Wrapping up with Robby Sansom   Sponsors: Heart & Soil: www.heartandsoil.co https://forceofnature.com/discount/CARNIVOREMD White Oak Pastures: Whiteoakpastures.com, use code: CarnivoreMD for 10% off your first order Belcampo + Heart & Soil Sweepstakes (last chance!): https://belcampo.com/pages/heart-soil  Belcampo: www.belcampo.com use code: CarnivoreMD for 20% off your order Sacred Hunting: www.sacredhunting.com/Paul for $250 off your hunt Joovv:

104. Will Biden become the hamburglar or defend meat?

Rumors that Biden's climate plan might include limitations on red meat consumption turned out to be unfounded but mainstream threats against the most nutritious foods on the planet (animal meat and organs, especially red meat) remain very real!    In this episode of Controversial Thoughts, I attack many of the usual criticisms against meat head-on and discuss disturbing trends in our culture which continues to lean more and more anti-meat.    Consider this ammunition in your discussions with those who still believe cows are bad for the environment! You're welcome!   #theremembering

Controversial Thoughts: Is there one optimal diet for all humans?

Would you be surprised if my answer was "no?" ... You are very different than other people you know, some might even say you are a snowflake, "one in a million..." 😂 And that's basically true... The diet that's ideal for you is different than mine and different than what your brother/sister/mom/dad may find to be best for them... BUT! I do believe there are 2 major overarching principles that will help guide you on your journey to discover YOUR OWN ideal diet. I discuss both of these in this video and share an incredible story of improvement in psoriasis with a carnivore diet as well as a recent paper looking at the harms of seed oils in states of critical illness! 102. Did we evolve as carnivores? With Miki Ben-Dor

Miki is a rock star.  He’s got a Ph.D. in archaeology and is affiliated with the department of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University.  He researches the connection between human evolution and nutrition throughout human prehistory. Link to first podcast with Miki: https://heartandsoil.co/pages/video-did-we-evolve-as-carnivores-or-omnivores-miki-ben-dor-phd  Time Stamps: 0:09:39 Introduction with Miki Ben-Dor 0:12:29 The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene 0:26:29 Humans are on a spectrum of omnivorous mammals 0:34:49 Evidence that we have evolved to become a specialized carnivore 0:40:29 Our specialization to absorb heme iron 0:42:29 Stomach acidity: more proof that we are meant to eat meat 0:46:24 In order to consume enough plant material, primates must spend a large portion of the day gathering and eating 0:49:29 The quality of a proper human diet takes a lot less time to eat and digest 0:52:49 Humans are "fat hunters" 1:00:29 Humans "shut down regions of the genome" to accomodate a high fat diet (presumably animal fats) while chimpaneezes open regiojs of the genome to accomodate a higher sugar diet 1:05:34 The human shoulder joint is perfectly designed to throw 1:09:09 The counter argument: we have genetic adaptations to consume starch and sugar 1:16:09 Was the majority of the decline in megafauna was due to the human hunting of these animals? 1:20:39 We can get plenty of quality omega-3's from eating large, fatty, ruminant animals 1:26:39 There is a hiearchy for human food sources; meat is on top, followed by fish, and then plant sources are at the bottom 1:35:29 "Carnivore" essentially means that us humans were eating animal-focused throughout our evolution, but not only animals - The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene 1:39:39 The plants you will find in the supermarket today is not at all what our ancestors would have eaten, but the meat is generally the same 1:41:29 Our brains have been shrinking over the last few thousand years 1:48:39 Closing thoughts with Miki: what can we take away from all of this information? Controversial Thoughts: How to tank your Testosterone!

Want to know how to raise your Testosterone? Don’t miss this video!  In it I discuss a recent meta-analysis (summary of 6 interventional studies) showing that low-fat, higher fiber diets lead to lower testosterone levels (and lower estrogen levels in women, along with a higher rate of anovulation/menstrual irregularities)! You know, low-fat, high fiber diets like a plant-based diet that’s claimed to be “healthy” for humans these days… No thanks. I’ll keep eating my organs, meat, and animal fat and getting the unique nutrients needed to make proper sex hormones.  Welcome to #theremembering

101. Who is Paul Saladino? Sevan Matossian interviews me!

This episode is a bit different than my usual content. My friend, and former crossfit luminary, Sevan Matossian came on to interview me! We talk about my life, and many of the formative experiences that shaped who I am today. No punches were pulled in this episode and I spoke as authentically as possible about challenges, failure, and a few things I am proud of. I also talk about relationships, why I am still single, if I ever want kids, what I am doing in Costa Rica and other random but personal topics.  I hope you enjoy this “opening of the kimono” (as Tim Ferriss might say). Thanks to Sevan for interviewing me, I certainly enjoyed getting the chance to tell some of my story. Controversial Thoughts: Why you can’t lose weight!

The weight loss paradigm is all wrong! Rather than focusing on weight loss to “get healthy” (and simply limiting calories without any change in food quality, aka weight watchers), you should be improving the quality of your foods to get healthy with weight loss following naturally.  Listen to this week’s edition of Controversial Thoughts for my breakdown of how I think you should be eating in order to achieve health and weight loss, simultaneously.  And join us this month for the #AnimalBased30 by signing up at AnimalBased30.com to start your journey to #RadicalHealth! #theremembering
