Consensual Non-monogamy Part 4: Mental Health Issues within CNM - Ep 30

Please join us for part four in our series on non-monogamy. This episode is all about how mood disorders and personality disorders can impact non-monogamous relationships. According to NAMI, one in five American adults experienced mental illness in 2020. When we couple this fact with the knowledge that consensually non-monogamy pokes at our unresolved attachment injuries more than monogamy, it makes sense to look this bear straight in the eyes. Consensual Non-Monogamy Part 3: Communication & Triggers - Ep. 29

Please join us for part three in our series on non-monogamy. This episode is all about how to handle difficult emotions, such as jealousy, envy, insecurity or feeling disempowered along with managing what may trigger you within your non-monogamous relationships. We discuss why it’s important to be in your “resilient zone” during difficult non-monogamous conversations and how to stay there. Finally, we discuss Kate’s EPIC communication model in more depth. Consensual Non-monogamy, Part 2: Compassion - Ep 28

Please join us for part two in our series on non-monogamy. This episode is all about self-compassion, but also compassion for our partners within consensual non-monogamous relationships (CNM). So often in Kate’s psychotherapy private practice she sees clients pleading for compassion while concurrently not giving it. And yet, its arguable that compassion is even more important than communication skills within CNM relationships given that even the most stellar communicators will have a crash and burn if compassion isn’t present. First, we discuss self-compassion and the self-work that needs to take place in order for it to be strong. Healing ego states, building positive affect tolerance, and healing attachment injuries are three areas explored. And then we discuss what blocks us from having compassion for our partners. A few such blocks are 1) the need to win, 2) shame spirals, and 3) catastrophizing. Transition: Kinky, Non-monogamous, Neurodiverse Love & More - Ep 26

Are you ready to process with us? In episode 26, our season one finale, we process all that we experienced throughout season one, all the great guests and lessons learned. This episode ends with us explaining our vision for season two. Note: If you simply want to hear our vision for season two, fast forward to the last twelve minutes of this episode. Our intention for season one was to be your vulnerability hub and, in the process, break down shame in all its forms. Due to harmful cultural conditioning many of us feel sexual shame, shame related to mental health struggles, or shame related to our identity. Our guests who were willing to do the emotional labor required to open deeply gave anyone listening an incredible gift with their vulnerable life story. Shame cannot exist were there are those willing to speak their truth. As shame breaks down, we create a more loving, connected world through vulnerability. Collectively, as guests told their life story, from struggle and pain to meaning and triumph, much trauma was unveiled. And as Bell Hooks says, ““Abuse and neglect negate love. Care and affirmation, the opposite of abuse and humiliation, are the foundation of love. No one can rightfully claim to be loving when behaving abusively.” If season one often unveiled what is not love, then season two will reveal what love is. But not just any love, love that is pushed into the shadows: kinky love, non-monogamous love, neurodiverse love and more. So, we hope that you join us for this finale episode as we chew on what we loved best and what we learned. Then, please continue on with us for season two as we continue to dare to open deeply, but this time into the realms of love. Mollena Williams: And Her Kink Prime Directive - Ep 25

Join us with Mollena Williams-Haas, American writer, BDSM educator, actor, story teller and former International Ms. Leather, for an episode of Open Deeply in which Mollena explains how she took her back her agency and came to understand intergenerational pain more fully via BDSM. Mollena doesn’t shy away from even the hardest questions related to being a Black woman who identifies as submissive. Her journey and storytelling have been so impactful to so many, that they eventually culminated in a film, The Artist and the Pervert. Furthermore, in this second episode with Mollena, she explains that although trauma related racism and classism lead her to being a “bed wetting alcoholic” for quite some time, she rose above, got sober, and eventually created the acclaimed show, “Hyena” along with her husband, composer, Georg Frederick-Haas about her experience with alcoholism. She continues to be a living testimony that our most dark fantasies and painful life stories can be transmuted into art that helps others heal and discard their own personal, debilitating shame. We hope you join us for this amazing episode. For more on building resilience through being submissive (especially as a Black woman) check out Ep. 8 and 9 of Mollena's podcast, All That & Mo.
