Ep. 164: Faulty Logic of the Lower Brain

Binge-encouraging thoughts don’t make logical sense, but they are tempting to believe in the moment of an urge. You can learn to stop taking these thoughts seriously, dismissing them as untrue and not indicative of who you truly are and what you truly want. It’s helpful to know that you aren’t the only one having thoughts that try to justify binge eating. In this episode, Kathryn shares several common faulty thoughts (from the lower brain) and explains how you can stop letting these thoughts lead you into harmful actions. Ep. 162: Grief and Gratitude (with Coach Julie)

Recovery can bring up some unexpected feelings, including grief.  Even though binge eating is ultimately a harmful behavior, you may still experience a sense of loss as you let it go, and you may also grieve the time you lost to the eating disorder. As you go through this, it can be helpful to cultivate thoughts and feelings of gratitude to soften the grief, and to keep you moving in the direction of freedom from the struggle with food. Life inevitably involves loss, and some lessons learned from recovery about both grief and gratitude can help you in many other areas as you move forward. Ep. 161: Boundaries in Recovery (with Coach Julie)

Recovery involves setting some boundaries with food, with the primary boundaries being to avoid binges and to avoid restriction.
