Quote of the episode from Dan: "new versus returning is, in my humble opinion, been kind of redundant for a couple of years now at very least."
Quote of the episode from Dara: "we'll throw the machine learning kitchen sink at this just to try and salvage this users metric"
---
This week Dan and Dara discuss the recent changes announces from Apple on the way they will be copping 1st party cookie lifetimes - even if being being set via server-side GTM. What imapct will this have, and what difference will it make to most people? That and if Sessions is a better metric than Users (again)...

Intro [00:15]
Topic [02:37]
Wind down [35:57]
Outro [37:31]

Quote of the episode from Rowenna: "you'll get away with it but if you are strict about compliance with law and strict about data ethics, then staying away from Google Analytics is the way forward."
Another quote from Rowenna: "a lot of the people in digital marketing that I've spoken to are just fine with accepting cookies, mainly because they're from sufficiently privileged backgrounds that the adverse effects are not likely to be inflicted upon them, so they're not so likely to be discriminated against by having inferences attached to them which confer social disadvantage."
Yet another quote from Rowenna: "all data is inherently biassed, the more you do stuff with the more data you have, the more bias effect there will be in the output."
---
This week Dan and Dara are joined by Rowenna Fielding "a warrior on the front line of the fight to defend humanity's rights and freedoms in an increasingly tech dystopia", and helps organisations stitch together technology, law and humanity to make stuff work the way they want it to. Rowenna helps Dan and Dara understand the legal differences between 1st vs. 3rd party, ePrivacy and GDPR, PII and PD, and what 'legitamite interest' is (or rather, is not). Listen to the end to hear Rowenna do a live audit of the Measurelab website...

Wind down [23:48]
Outro [26:04]

Quote of the episode from Dan: "This is probably the biggest single negative impact they've done ever since they've rolled out Google Analytics 4."
Quote of the episode from Dara: "It feels like a bit of a backward step because one of the biggest benefits I think when GA4 was announced was the fact that it was so much less restricted."
---
Dan and Dara are back, and this week are discussing the recent update from Google Analytics where they are now enforcing their Data API quotas. Since 7th November 2022, Looker Studio reports that connect to Google Analytics 4 data are subject to GA4 Data API quotas. Reports that exceed these quotas will break, and Dan is more than annoyed...
