#72 - Debunking Common Preconception and Pregnancy Myths with Loren & Brit
A few months ago I sat down with Loren and Brit creators of Conscious conception - the ultimate guide to prepping for pregnancy.I’ve actually had a lot of messages asking me about whether I'm still trying to conceive so I I’m planning to sit down and record a solo podcast in the next few weeks with an big update. It's been a very interesting 12 months, it’s been super challenging and it's probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.So if you’ve been wondering where I'm at look out for that podcast I’ll release it in the next few weeks. When Brit and Loren released their course I was lucky enough to be one of a handful of people to go through it before it before it was released and I was so impressed.I often get asked questions about what to eat and how to train not only while preparing for pregnancy but also while pregnant so I thought it would be a great opportunity to get them on to discuss preparing for pregnancy and to debunk some common pregnancy and preconception myths.I’ve actually had Loren on the podcast to talk about anemia and iron overload so if you haven't listened to that one I highly recommend you do. Brit was actually pregnant during the recording of this podcast and she's now had a beautiful girl named Maya rose.In this episode, we chat about:➡️The correlation between health, nutrition, and milk production➡️Your thyroid hormone levels and the neurodevelopment of your baby➡️Why the preconception period is so important for pregnancy and after pregnancy➡️Why pregnancy is stressful on the body➡️The vitamin A and pregnancy myth➡️The best multivitamin for women before, during and after pregnancy➡️What should you know about folic acid and pregnancy➡️Precautions you may want to take with some foods when pregnant➡️Does fertility drop with age➡️Body fat guidelines for fertility➡️Training and lifting during pregnancy and➡️What is a reasonable timeframe to lose the baby weightHappy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #71 - Are you a woman killing herself to have it all? with Jim Bostock
We met Jim 7 years ago when Craig had a shoulder issue no one could fix.I remember it got so bad he stopped all upper body training for months. He saw numerous physios and specialists and no one could give him an answer or provide any relief from the pain.A friend referred us to Jim and within 3 visits Craig was pain free and back training.Jim is a physio by trade but has developed a nerve lock release therapy to treat pain. He's worked with numerous high profile athletes and celebrities not only in Australia but around the globe. We’ve sent 100's of people to Jim over the last 7 years, including my own mother and brother in law.I’ve done a podcast with Jim previously and when I went out to our audience asking who they wanted me to interview, Jim was on the list.Through his work he gets to talk with women who often share how unhappy they are in their relationships, career and life and struggle to do it all, especially when they have kids.So we thought we’d get together and talk about relationships, communication and why women are killing themselves to have it all.Specifically we talk about:➡️How to communicate in a relationship so each person is satisfied➡️The overlapping of masculine and feminine roles today and how this can increase stress➡️How sacrifices may need to be made to truly be happy➡️Finding a balance between work and kids➡️How to put your ego aside for honest and truthful communicationHappy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #70 - Healing pounds: Are they necessary and how much is too much? with Libby Wescombe and Craig McDonald
One thing I love about the pro-metabolic community is that I’ve made so many new friends.Everyone is just so friendly and supportive, probably because they eat carbs and sugar 🤣I’ve actually got this great chat group going in Whatsapp with @libbywescombe, @amykatebowe and @leilalutz.I've had all of them on the podcast so if you haven't listened to their episodes I recommend you do.They’re not only super knowledgeable but just awesome women. We pretty much chat daily and I often hear Libby and Craig have little rants about the same things which makes me laugh 🤣But in all seriousness I love how passionate and knowledgeable they are about all things training and body composition change. One thing I hear both of them talk about quite a lot is all the women that come into their programs who have gained a lot of weight after transitioning to a pro-metabolic diet because they believe they need healing pounds. So I thought I ‘d get them on to talk about healing pounds and more specifically:➡️What are healing pounds?➡️When are they necessary?➡️When are they unnecessary and how can you limit fat gain when shifting to a pro-metabolic diet➡️Why eating more isn’t always the answer➡️Why tracking your food intake is so important if you want to limit fat gain➡️How to shift your mindset around food tracking if you find it restrictive or can’t be consistent➡️They type of training you should be focusing on if you want to limit fat gain➡️The misconception that women will look too muscular with weight training➡️One of the biggest reasons women aren’t making progress in the gym➡️Why standardising reps is important➡️How walking/aerobic activity helps recovery and the type of cardio every woman should be doing daily➡️Why it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach and where many women go wrong when shifting to a pro-metabolic dietSo if you’re a woman who’s struggled with fat gain when moving to a pro-metabolic diet you’ll love this episode.Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #69 - Plant based diets: Are they the healthy choice or just a front for disordered eating with Chlo Catherine
Chlo is a Dynamic Eating Psychology Coach and Therapeutic Nutrition Counselor. She has an inspiring story and comes from a pretty intense vegan and disordered eating background. She spent 11 years battling her body suffering from orthorexia, anorexia, amenorrhea and exercise addiction.Once she found pro-metabolic eating and added animal products back into her diet she got her period back, restored her metabolism and transformed her relationship with food.Today, Chlo lives on this huge property in California with her family. They make their own jam and have their own beehives and chickens. She’s super passionate about helping women heal their relationship with food and their bodies, restore their metabolisms, break free from restrictive diets and get their periods back.I get a lot of questions from women about going vegan or plant based so I thought I'd get Chlo on the show to discuss the downfalls of these diets and why they really aren't that healthy. In this episode, we chat about:➡️The nutritional deficiencies that are most common with plant based diets and the nutrients that are only found in animal products➡️Why animal foods are superior when it comes to protein➡️The dangerous idea that what you eat makes you a good or bad person➡️How we’ve accidentally started equating low calories to meaning “healthy”➡️Why nuts aren’t the best in large amounts➡️If you can’t tolerate something like dairy you need to ask yourself why your body can’t digest it and fix the root cause and,➡️Why being flexible with your food is importantHappy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #65 - How do I lose body fat & get that 'toned' look? with Craig McDonald
But Kitty I don't want to look muscular I just want to tone up.I've had quite a lot of women message me in the last few weeks saying they don't want to lift weights and become to muscular they just want to lose weight and tone up so wouldn't it be better to do pilates, yoga, classes, bootcamps and run??I went into a store at ferry road a few months ago and the lady said to me "oh you have such a wonderful figure what do you do? running and yoga?"I get it I used to think the same thing. I spent so many years doing HIIT, bootcamps, running for miles, classes and circuit type workouts trying to lose weight and 'tone up'.So I thought I'd sit down with @iamcraigmcdonald and discuss exactly what you need to do to lose body fat and 'tone up' in a healthy and sustainable way, what we cover:👉What does toned actually mean?👉The difference between weight loss, fat loss and body recomposition👉How do you build muscle👉The number one reason most women are not making progress in the gym (getting stronger & building muscle)👉Why weight isn't always a great indicator of progress👉How do you know if you're ready for a fat loss phase?👉What biofeedback and health markers should you be looking at before starting a fat loss phase?👉Why is reverse dieting important after a fat loss phase?👉What if I've just had a baby and I'm breast feeding should I do a fat loss phase?👉What about cardio?Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield. #64 - Getting Back to Basics and Listening to Your Body with Amy Bowe
When I first found pro-metabolic eating I had become so out of tune with my body. I wasn't hungry in the morning, so I would skip breakfast. When I was hungry I was scared to eat because I thought I would gain weight. I trained regardless of how I was feeling because again, I thought if I didn't train and do cardio every day I would gain weight. For 17 years of my life when it came to food I always thought that less was better and when it came to training I always thought that more was better 🤣 and if you've followed me for a while you'll know that it set me up with irregular and painful cycles, poor sleep, digestive issues, my hair was falling out and was obsessed with how I looked, what I weighed plus I was a chronic binge eater. Thank goodness I found @thenutritioncoach and Ray's work and @iamcraigmcdonald taught me how to strength train. As I started implementing what I learnt from Emma and Craig I finally got in tune with my body. I learnt how to trust it and listen to what it was telling me. I became better at auto-regulating, eating when I was hungry, pushing hard in training when I felt good and taking rest days when I needed them. But how do you actually listen to your body and get to a place where you can trust it and auto-regulate? This is exactly what Amy and I discuss in this episode.Specifically, we chat about:➡️What does “listening to your body” mean?➡️How to check in with your body and re-create this connection➡️Why you need to understand basic science and info about the metabolism➡️How consistency plays a part and how you can start being consistent➡️How to plan your training and eating according to how you feel➡️Why tracking helps during the early stages of re-creating this connection➡️And more!Happy listening I hope you find this podcast helpful and don't forget to take a screenshot of the episode and share it on Instagram stories and tag me at @kittyblomfield.
