ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

Transforming Pain into Purpose with LY Marlow
Today I am joined by LY Marlow, who is an award winning author, speaker, podcaster, entrepreneur, philanthropist and women’s empowerment advocate. I am always on the lookout for guests who are inspiring examples of overcoming obstacles, regardless of what their specific challenges might be, and LY is no exception. LY grew up with few advantages, in a family culture of domestic violence, teen pregnancy, low expectations and bad choices. We talked at length about identity, resiliency and the awareness that there is another way, from an early age. Her mission and message to help women recognize that the things we are afraid of, what LY calls “Monsters”, don’t have to stop us. We can not only stand up to our Monsters, but we can actually learn to use our fear as fuel. In addition to her coaching and consulting business, LY runs a non-profit organization, “Saving Promise”, devoted to ending domestic violence, named for her granddaughter. When she is not running her business, her nonprofit, writing books, speaking, coaching or podcasting, LY enjoys good chocolate and Pinot Noir. She’s also very funny and enjoys a good belly laugh with a friend, old or new. This week’s Pod Praise comes from Mary Rogers who says “ I have been a huge fan of Diann Wingert for YEARS! She's been a regular guest on many other podcasts, including my own. Every episode provides multiple AHA moments for women who just can't seem to "get it together". Thanks, Mary! Growing Your Business Through Intentional Constraint: a Client Success Story with Emily Rapp Black
This episode is a very exciting Client Success Story, featuring Emily Rapp Black, a college professor of creative writing, NY Times best selling author with four published memoirs including her latest, Frida Kahlo and My Left Leg. Emily is also a mother and entrepreneur with two businesses. She is a Peloton enthusiast, wickedly funny and has never let her ADHD or her prosthetic leg slow her down. When it comes to business, many of Emily’s challenges were related to boundaries, settling limits and charging for the tremendous value she brings to her collaborative writing clients. Emily knew she was saying “yes” to too many kinds of projects which limited her income and time for her most important goals, like taking a month off every summer to work on her own writing projects. In this episode, we talk about things we addressed through coaching:Identifying your non-negotiables and communicating them with confidence How personal values of sensitivity, empathy and generosity can create challenges in businessGrowing your business by embracing intentional constraints in who you work with, your scope of work and what you charge Today’s Podcast Praise for The Driven Woman comes from Tricia Dempsey who says: “Diann is my new business BFF! Her perspective of driven entrepreneurs is a breath of fresh air. She is such a role model for all of us because she is vulnerable and bold enough to speak about what we are all thinking and at the same time, holds space for those in the messy middle of reaching their goals. Thank you Diann for being a great example of what's possible for us all.” Thank you, Tricia! Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode! Nicole’s new book is called “How to Love Your Business.” The subtitle really says it all, Stop Recreating Trauma and Have a Business You Love- And That Loves You Back. I bought the book the day it was released, devoured it and wrote down all my questions, in anticipation of this interview. We do a deep dive into several areas of the book I found most fascinating:Trauma and boundaries How to Love Your Inner CriticEmotional Sustainability Plan Common Manifestations of the Inner Critic:The WorrierThe Insecure BlufferThe AnnihilatorKey takeaway: Your inner critic is your protector, not a bully This week’s Pod Praise comes from: April Adams Pertuis of Lightbeamers who says “Diann is a force!!! Overcoming Perfectionism: How to Break Free from the Need for Control
If you are a regular listener of The Driven Woman Podcast, you are probably a perfectionist. The Driven Woman is ambitious, hard working, strives for excellence and wants to be the best at everything she does, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours to the day to get it all done, to her satisfaction. That’s why we are talking about perfectionism again this week. If you want to go back to Episode #12, The Cure for Perfectionism, you can get a double dose of pure-DW straight talk on the subject. The truth of the matter is that no one is perfect and if we apply our impossibly high standards to everything we do, we will be tweaking our webcopy while a competitor beats us to market. Perfection is costly and the harsh reality is that most of the times, the things we are obsessing over don’t even matter all that much. Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from CresnahF (a member of our Facebook group) who writes: “I've checked if there is a podcast about intimidating women, (as people thought I am), and you're the first recommendation provided by Apple Podcast. I feel every word is talking to me, I felt it in my heart. I automatically subscribed. Thank you, Cresnah for this beautiful review and for supporting The Driven Woman Podcast. Elevating Women's Voices Through Story with April Adams Pertuis
I first met today’s guest, April Adams Pertuis, in an online community for female entrepreneurs. She was an award-winning journalist for many years, before deciding to take her skills online to reach as many people as possible. April believes every woman has a story to tell and it’s her mission to teach them how. There are so many fears to be identified and overcome, but there is so much power in our stories and when we share them, we inspire others to do the same. If you struggle with fear of being seen, rejection sensitivity, imposter syndrome or the belief that your story doesn’t matter, pull up your chair and turn up the volume. This one’s for you! Here are the highlights of our conversation:The importance of women's storiesHow to get more women to share their storyHow to get “unstuck” in a storyHow to look for stories in our everyday lifeThis week’s Pod Praise comes from Cher Kretz who writes: “As a woman who is driven, I am so glad I found this podcast. I can get powered up real fast and get out there, ready to make it happen! Thank you so much.” Thank you Cher for this thoughtful review. Safeguarding Your Energy: Strategies to Avoid Entrepreneurial Burnout
Today I am joined by Cait Donovan, who is a burnout expert, something that many female entrepreneurs are at risk of, especially the gifted, creative, sensitive ones. Cait is not only a burnout coach, but she is also a licensed acupuncturist, speaker, author, course creator and fellow podcaster. Like many driven women, Cait learned about burnout the hard way, by going through it. She figured out how she ended up there, how to bounce back and now she is on a mission to end burnout culture. If we want to stay in the entrepreneurial game long enough to have a business that it both profitable and sustainable, staying alert to where we feel resentment and setting healthier boundaries is a must. You are going to love this conversation as much as I did! This week’s Pod Praise comes from duckieduck64 (aka Marcie) who says: Welcome to a mind-blowing home for the ADHD professional, regardless of gender, to dive deeper into their adult ADHD journey, feel way less alone, and maybe learn a few tips along the way. Diann’s having profoundly intriguing conversations and so far, every episode I’ve listened to has deeply resonated in some way. Is Rejection Sensitivity Hurting Your Business?
If you are an entrepreneur, a creative person or an indie professional who needs to make offers, close sales, market their products or services and have a presence in the world of social media, I don’t have to tell you that dealing with real or perceived rejection is one of the issues you need to gain mastery over in order to stay in business and make a living. But, rejection sensitivity is not a disorder, a mental health diagnosis or illness. It is also not a reason to hide your gifts from the world, work for free or barter yourself into business failure. You can be both sensitive and successful and it is well worth learning to overcome your fears so you can make your difference in the world. Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from Jerseyll who writes: “This is an amazing podcast packed full of actionable info you can put to use in your life right away. The Episode #48 interview Diann did with her friend, therapist, John Sovec on How to Keep Fear from Holding You Back, was so good that I’m going to listen to over again many, many times. How Serial Entrepreneurs Leverage Their ADHD Traits
Today I am joined by Angela Proffitt, who describes herself as “a southern gal with a potty mouth” (so you know I was taken with her instantly) and is the founder and CEO of Angela Proffitt, LLC a consulting firm out of Nashville, Tennessee. Angela is a productivity consultant, speaker, author, online course creator, podcaster, 8-figure serial entrepreneur, AND a driven woman with ADHD. Her story is full of twists and turns, good luck, and bad choices, but what is most impressive to me about Angela is her mindset and how she made over her life from being a total workaholic on the verge of burnout to one where she is in control of her time, energy, clients, and money. Angela Proffitt just may be one of the most inspiring women I’ve met, with or without ADHD, and whether you are an entrepreneur or not, you will learn a ton from this conversation. This week’s Pod Praise comes from GalFriday612 who says: “Give this show a listen, ADHD or No. Diann cuts to the heart of the topic at hand - no fluff, no filler, just concentrated Exactly What You Need To Hear. The podcast feels like sitting down for an intimate chat with your friend who always gives the best advice to get you unstuck.”Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode! Different, Not Deficient: The Power of Self-Acceptance
It makes me angry that acknowledging a mental health diagnosis and receiving help is still a source of stigma and shame. I am grateful to the brave and clever people who have taken to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, not to mention those who have started podcasts, to normalize mental health conditions by dropping their masks and sharing their struggles. They have done more to raise awareness and spread hope in the last few years than the psychiatric community has been able to do in decades. In today’s solo episode, I’d like to share with you my thoughts about being a person with ADHD and what those four little letters mean to me. ADHD is a mouthful if you spell it out. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Not only is the clinical label confusing because people with ADHD can and do pay attention, and many of us aren’t hyperactive, but the words “deficit” and “disorder” are triggering enough to stop many from ever scheduling a diagnostic appointment. If you suspect or know you have ADHD, you don’t have to pledge allegiance to any of the factions within this community (‘It’s a superpower!” vs “It’s a disability!”) but you do need to decide what you make it mean about you, your life and your abilities. Listen in as I share my journey with ADHD and the choices I have made that just might work for you too.
