Breaking Through Your Upper Limits

This week we are going to continue with the theme of upper limit issues, which refers to the unconscious habits we have that keep us from experiencing all the health, happiness, and success we are consciously striving for.  Two weeks ago, we talked about how to identify these upper limit issues- what they are, what purpose they serve and how they got into our unconscious minds to begin with.  In this episode, we are going to discuss the categories of behavior that let us know when we are “upper-limiting” ourselves. The good news is that there really aren’t that many of them and once you see them for what they are, you won’t be able to ignore them again. If you are a driven woman who is working hard, doing all the things, but just can’t seem to reach her goals on a consistent basis, you are already aware that something is getting in your way and suspect you are holding yourself back somehow. If you want to play a bigger game, make more money and have a bigger impact, you are going to love this episode. Just to give you a sneak peek, so you are gonna want to listen all the way to the end, here are the categories of upper limit behaviors to watch out for:WorryBlame & CriticismDeflectionArguments Illness If you have been listening to The DrIven Woman Podcast for more than an episode or two, you already know that I am very direct and pretty outspoken.  One of my favorite clients calls me “The Speaker of Uncomfortable Truths” and I think that’s pretty accurate.  You might feel a bit called out in this episode, but it’s because I seriously want you to have an amazing business and life and I know you aren’t going to have them if you are upper-limiting yourself.    If you are working your ass off to achieve your goals but something always seems to get in the way, it just might be your upper limits.  Freebie AlertNow that you have Identified your upper limits, you are ready to start breaking through them. How Much Success Can You Tolerate?

I am totally obsessed with helping women bust through their self-imposed limits and busting through my own.  For this week’s solo episode, we are kicking off a mini-series on the topic of upper limit issues - what they are, how to know if you have them (spoiler alert, if you are human, you DO…), and most importantly, how to eliminate them so you can reach your true potential. I have met countless intelligent, driven, ambitious women who unconsciously hold themselves back from the success, love, wellbeing, and genuine happiness that they deserve.  They label it self-sabotage, imposter complex, or doubt that they are truly committed to their dreams, and some of them are even shamed by their coaches when this happens, but upper limits are learned and what is learned can be unlearned. The term upper limit issue comes from the best-selling book, The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks, Ph.D.  The concepts in this book have changed my life and are one of the cornerstones of my coaching philosophy.  If you have ever wondered why no matter how much you want to achieve your goals and how hard you work toward them, something always seems to get in the way, then you are going to want to listen to this episode, and come back for episodes 65 and 67 as well.  And, don’t forget to get the worksheet so you can apply what you learned to your own life. Freebie AlertIf you want to take a deeper dive into uncovering your upper limit issues, grab this worksheet! Identifying Your Upper Limits WorksheetLet’s connect on Instagram: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachdiannwingert/ The Driven Woman Facebook GroupThe place to be for entrepreneurial women who are ready to go from driven and distracted to focused, fired up, and flame retardant  (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thedrivenwoman) Work With MeIt’s not too late to make the summer of 2021 your kickoff to getting back into momentum & up-leveling your business and life. Helping Women Take Their Next Step with Tricia Dempsey

Today’s guest, Tricia Dempsey always knew she was driven and ambitious, but she got a lot of messages about what girls can’t do growing up that lead her to make choices that felt like a too-tight pair of shoes.  Dad said OK to playing basketball, but when Tricia wanted to go into sales and got a hard NO, she chose the socially sanctioned path of teaching, which she did until she just couldn’t face a room of middle schoolers anymore.  Tricia left teaching for the business world but eventually discovered she was building someone else’s dream (while doing most of the work and generating most of the revenue.)  A cancer diagnosis was the wake up call she needed and Tricia started her business without waiting to finish treatment. Today, Tricia is the CEO of Thrive-Her, a vibrant online business, empowering other women to start their own businesses through coaching, content and community.  She works with women who have experience and skill, want to start their own business but just don’t know what their next step is or how to take it.  She’s the kind of woman who makes people feel at home with her immediately. We compared our Strengths Finder Top 5, talked about climbing the wrong ladder,  being an Amazon Woman - we are both super tall (I’m 5’10 and she’s 6 feet), and of course being a Driven Woman.   Before I share our inspiring conversation, I’d like to share this week’s Pod Praise, which comes from fellow life coach Audrey Lollis who writes: “Thank you Diann for being so authentic on this podcast! Your excellence really stands out and I'm excited to continue listening to all the remaining episodes” Thanks for listening and thanks for this awesome review, Audrey!  Want to help me know exactly what content to feature?Click here to take this poll  “What’s Holding You Back?”  I’m working on a brand new series on mindset blocks.  Tell me yours so I can create the perfect episodes for you! https://www.tryinteract.com/share/poll/5f9d78cb138d6c0014b069a1/ Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode!    Apple: https://apple.co/2BZDFzcAndroid: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/the-driven-woman-1194485Connect with Diann Online: The Driven Woman Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/thedrivenwoman/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachdiannwingert/ Tricia dropped so many value bombs in our convo.  Here are the books she mentioned during the interview: Necessary Endings by Henry Cloud4 Disciplines of Execution by Covey, McChesney, and Huling The Million Dollar One-Person Business by Elaine PofeldtTricia’s fully booked workshop: https://www.thrive-her.com/booked/Monthly membership program: Thrive-Her Passport: https://www.thrive-her.com/a/46999/AnKtDbQX (affiliate link)

Expectations vs. Reality: How to Bridge the Gap

When I first started coaching female entrepreneurs,  we focused a lot on productivity and time management, because my clients wanted to get more done.  So, I taught them the latest techniques to identify their most important goals and to accomplish them more efficiently.  Over time, our coaching conversations had shifted to energy management - when to do our creative work and when to do the tasks that require more focused effort. But, they were still overwhelmed and exhausted. The more I dug into their biz shizz,  the more I realized what they needed most - obligation management. What am I talking about?  How we deal with expectations - our own and other people’s.  What I uncovered is that a whole lot of really smart, badass female entrepreneurs have shitty business boundaries, are over delivering and under charging and avoiding uncomfortable conversations with both their clients and their team.  So, this is the topic of this week’s solo episode, dealing with expectations.  Because if you are doing more than you should be out of feelings of guilt and obligation,  you are going to keep on draining your energy and not getting things done.  So, sit tight and keep your seat belt buckled, while I share this week’s pod praise, from Jessica Foley who writes:   “I’ve been meaning to write a review since I heard about this podcast and listened to my first episode. If you are a driven woman and might be gifted (or have a higher than average IQ) LISTEN to Diann! It’s like she knows how your brain is working and how to challenge it! Transforming Pain into Purpose with LY Marlow

Today I am joined by LY Marlow, who is an award winning author, speaker, podcaster, entrepreneur, philanthropist and women’s empowerment advocate.  I am always on the lookout for guests who are inspiring examples of overcoming obstacles, regardless of what their specific challenges might be, and LY is no exception. LY grew up with few advantages, in a family culture of domestic violence, teen pregnancy, low expectations and bad choices.  We talked at length about identity, resiliency and the awareness that there is another way, from an early age.  Her mission and message to help women recognize that the things we are afraid of, what LY calls “Monsters”, don’t have to stop us.  We can not only stand up to our Monsters, but we can actually learn to use our fear as fuel. In addition to her coaching and consulting business, LY runs a non-profit organization, “Saving Promise”, devoted to ending domestic violence, named for her granddaughter.  When she is not running her business, her nonprofit, writing books, speaking, coaching or podcasting, LY enjoys good chocolate and Pinot Noir.   She’s also very funny and enjoys a good belly laugh with a friend, old or new.  This week’s Pod Praise comes from Mary Rogers who says “ I have been a huge fan of Diann Wingert for YEARS! She's been a regular guest on many other podcasts, including my own. Every episode provides multiple AHA moments for women who just can't seem to "get it together".  Thanks, Mary! Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode!    Apple: https://apple.co/2BZDFzcAndroid: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/the-driven-woman-1194485Are you ready to take things to the next level and work With Diann? Are you ready to invest in making 2021 the year you get back into momentum & move the needle?  Click here to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Diann to see if her signature 12-week private coaching program is right for you.  https://calendly.com/diannwingert/free-consultationConnect with Diann Online: The Driven Woman Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/thedrivenwoman/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/coachdiannwingert/ LinkedIn:   https://www.linkedin.com/in/diannwingertcoaching/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/diannwingertcoaching/ Want to know more about  LY Marlow and her business?Website: https://www.lymarlow.com/Podcast: https://www.lymarlow.com/podcast-1Free assessment: https://www.lymarlow.com/monsterise-1Free FAST strategy call: https://bootcamp.lymarlow.com/

Growing Your Business Through Intentional Constraint: a Client Success Story with Emily Rapp Black

This episode is a very exciting Client Success Story, featuring Emily Rapp Black, a college professor of creative writing,  NY Times best selling author with four published memoirs including her latest, Frida Kahlo and My Left Leg.  Emily is also a mother and entrepreneur with two businesses.  She is a Peloton enthusiast, wickedly funny and has never let her ADHD or her prosthetic leg slow her down.  When it comes to business, many of Emily’s challenges were related to boundaries, settling limits and charging for the tremendous value she brings to her collaborative writing clients.  Emily knew she was saying “yes” to too many kinds of projects which limited her income and time for her most important goals, like taking a month off every summer to work on her own writing projects. In this episode, we talk about things we addressed through coaching:Identifying your non-negotiables and communicating them with confidence  How personal values of sensitivity, empathy and generosity can create challenges in businessGrowing your business by embracing intentional constraints in who you work with, your scope of work and what you charge  Today’s Podcast Praise for The Driven Woman comes from Tricia Dempsey who says:  “Diann is my new business BFF! Her perspective of driven entrepreneurs is a breath of fresh air. She is such a role model for all of us because she is vulnerable and bold enough to speak about what we are all thinking and at the same time, holds space for those in the messy middle of reaching their goals. Thank you Diann for being a great example of what's possible for us all.”  Thank you, Tricia!  Don’t forget to leave your own review of The Driven Woman Podcast, so I can read it on a future episode!    Apple: https://apple.co/2BZDFzcAndroid: https://bit.ly/TDWE-podchaser Want to help me know exactly what content to feature?Click here to take this poll  “What’s Holding You Back?”  I’m working on a brand new series on mindset blocks.  Tell me yours so I can create the perfect episodes for you! https://bit.ly/whyb-quiz Are you ready to take things to the next level and work With Diann? Are you ready to invest in making 2021 the year you get back into momentum & move the needle?  Click here to schedule a free 30-minute consultation with Diann to see if her signature 12-week private coaching program is right for you.  Create an ADHD-friendly business and life! https://bit.ly/calendly-free-consultation Connect with Diann Online: Instagram: https://bit.ly/DWC-InstagramLinkedIn:   https://bit.ly/DWC-LinkedIn Ways to connect with Emily Rapp Black:Website: https://www.emilyrappblack.com/Business: https://circeconsulting.net/And, of course, on social media: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/emilyrappblack/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/EmilyRappBlackJust last week, Emily published her latest memoir, “Frida Kahlo and My Left Leg” where she shared her personal journey as an amputee and how she is inspired by the life of Mexican painter, Frida Kahlo (I am a huge Frida fan, and it is one of many things Emily have in common!) Here is a link to the book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1912559269?tag=randohouseinc7986-20

Overcoming Perfectionism: How to Break Free from the Need for Control

If you are a regular listener of The Driven Woman Podcast, you are probably a perfectionist. The Driven Woman is ambitious,  hard working,  strives for excellence and wants to be the best at everything she does, there just doesn’t seem to be enough hours to the day to get it all done, to her satisfaction.  That’s why we are talking about perfectionism again this week.  If you want to go back to Episode #12, The Cure for Perfectionism,  you can get a double dose of pure-DW straight talk on the subject.  The truth of the matter is that no one is perfect and if we apply our impossibly high standards to everything we do, we will be tweaking our webcopy while a competitor beats us to market.  Perfection is costly and the harsh reality is that most of the times, the things we are obsessing over don’t even matter all that much. Our Pod Praise (podcast review) this week comes from CresnahF (a member of our Facebook group) who writes:  “I've checked if there is a podcast about intimidating women, (as people thought I am), and you're the first recommendation provided by Apple Podcast. I feel every word is talking to me, I felt it in my heart. I automatically subscribed. Thank you, Cresnah for this beautiful review and for supporting The Driven Woman Podcast.   (Cresnah is referring to episode# 35 - “Are you intimidating?” If you have heard you are intimidating, you definitely want to scroll back and listen!) Remember,  if you leave a review for The Driven Woman Podcast, Diann will read it on a future episode. Elevating Women's Voices Through Story with April Adams Pertuis

I first met today’s guest, April Adams Pertuis, in an online community for female entrepreneurs.  She was an award-winning journalist for many years, before deciding to take her skills online to reach as many people as possible. April believes every woman has a story to tell and it’s her mission to teach them how.  There are so many fears to be identified and overcome, but there is so much power in our stories and when we share them, we inspire others to do the same.  If you struggle with fear of being seen,  rejection sensitivity,  imposter syndrome or the belief that your story doesn’t matter,  pull up your chair and turn up the volume.  This one’s for you! Here are the highlights of our conversation:The importance of women's storiesHow to get more women to share their storyHow to get “unstuck” in a storyHow to look for stories in our everyday lifeThis week’s Pod Praise comes from Cher Kretz who writes: “As a woman who is driven, I am so glad I found this podcast.
