Heather Jackson: Western States 100 Pre-Race Interview for 2023
Heather Jackson has taken the ultra world by storm over the past year, as she’s made her debut in the sport coming from an accomplish triathlon career. Notching up amazing results at Javelina Jundred, a second place finish at Black Canyon, and a win at the Canyons 50K, she is on an incredible start in the trail running world!
And now, she’s gearing up to take on Western States 100 for the very first time and looks to enjoy the experience, apply all that she’s learned over her first few ultras, and really dial in to the race that got her hooked on the sport in the first place.
Heather Jackson is one of the top triathletes of our time, notching 6 IRONMAN World Champion titles, 16 IRONMAN 70.3 Champion titles, and tons of other wins and podium finishes at some of the worlds’ most competitive triathlons. On top of her triathlon wins and incredible results in the ultrarunning scene, she also competes in gravel biking races as well.
In this episode, Heather shares the keys to success she uses from her triathlon training into ultramarathon training, the biggest lessons she’s learned in her trail races so far, and her race strategy for Western States.

Scott Traer and Callie Vinson: Western States 100 Pre-Race Interview for 2023
Callie and Scott are both taking on Western States 100 this year. And as a couple, they’ve spent tons of time together training, preparing, and getting ready to toe the line at Olympic Valley this year.
Callie Vinson is an ultrarunner and content creator who has completed the Moab 240, multiple 100 mile races, and tons of other ultramarathons. This will be her first time racing Western States this year, and she has been putting in tons of work to race well, while also documenting her training journey on social media throughout.
Scott Traer is an ultrarunner and coach at Run Fastah who is returning for a second time at Western States after securing a top 10 finish at last year’s race. He also has tons of notable finishes, such as a Golden Ticket win at Black Canyon 100K last year, and multiple wins and podium finishes.
In this episode, Callie and Scott share what it’s been like training for the same race as a couple, their strategies for taking on race day, and how they’ve been preparing their mindsets for race day (spolier alert: Ted Lasso is one of their keys to success).

Katie Schide: Western States 100 Preview Episode for 2023

Nicole Bitter: Western States 100 Preview Episode for 2023
Nicole Bitter is a professional ultrarunner for Altra who punched her ticket to Western States this year by getting a Golden Ticket at Bandera 100K. And that was only a few months after running an impressive race at Javelina Jundred 100 miler, coming in third.

Tom Evans: Western States 100 Preview Episode for 2023
Tom Evans is a professional ultrarunner for Adidas TERREX and Red Bull, and is returning for his second time to Western States 100 after a podium finish in 2019. Running Shoes for Ultramarathons: How to Pick The Best Ones For You with Nathaniel Chan
How do you pick the right running shoes as an ultrarunner? With so many choices out there, it can be tough to know exactly what shoe is the best for you.
That’s why I brought my friend, Nathaniel Chan, onto the podcast as he is a shoe specialist at Sole Sports Tempe, and has such a huge in-depth knowledge of shoes and what kind of shoes are best for runners. Not only is he an expert in shoes, but he is also an ultrarunner himself, completing the Black Canyon 100K, Speedgoat 50K multiple times, and has been running for a majority of his life.
In this episode, Nathaniel shares the most important things to consider when choosing a shoe as an ultra athlete, suggestions for what type of shoes to test out to find out the best ones that work for you, if carbon-plated trail shoes are really worth the hype, and whether or not you should wear trail shoes.
