How Sobriety Affects Your Relationship (Featuring my Husband!)
A lot of fears crop up when you commit to a life of sobriety. One of the most common fears is how sobriety will change your relationship. Today my husband Russell joins me on the pod to speak about just that! Through navigating this together we learned that sobriety is not a bad thing for your relationship. You will still laugh. You will still have fun. You will still have sex! In fact, it might make everything better. How have you navigated sobriety with your partner? Let me know at @thesobermomlife on Instagram! Are you craving a community in sobriety? What’s in My Sobriety Toolbox?
I like to ask all of my guests, “what’s in your sobriety toolbox?,” but I really wish there was a better word than “toolbox”. “Toolboxes” are used on things that are broken. I am not broken and neither are you. Nevertheless, these are the tools that I rely on not just to cope, but to flourish in sobriety. These tools have lifted me up and given me nourishment, rest and focus. I hope you can find something here to add to your own sobriety toolbox! Grief Sucks… But It's Not as Bad as Grief with a Hangover
Today’s episode is a very personal one. When I stopped drinking in January 2020 I had no idea that the pandemic was coming or that I was about to lose my father. Had I known, I don’t know if I would have decided to get sober. However, I am so happy that I did. We drink to numb our pain and feelings, but the only way to truly find your way through grief is by feeling the feelings in their fullest. I don’t know if there is anything worse than grief, but if there is? It’s grief with a hangover. I want you to know: You are strong enough to handle your grief. The Problem with Mommy Wine Culture with Emily Lynn Paulson
Emily Lynn Paulson’s book “Highlight Real” was one of the first books I read in my early sobriety. It’s message that you don’t have to hit rock bottom to stop drinking really resonated with me. Emily hosts the community Sober Mom Squad, a place for sober and sober-curious moms to connect and lean on each other. Sisters in Sobriety: Katy Olson
Katy Olson isn’t just my best friend of 40+ years, she’s practically my sister. So who better to talk to about the journey to sobriety than someone who’s been beside me every step of the way? After decades of social drinking, Katy’s last drink was in December of 2019. She didn’t intend for it to be that way, but through a deepening yoga practice she found herself motivated to remove things in her life that were causing her body harm. Join us for a non-judgemental chat about how shame, responsibility, family and life events affected our drinking habits and eventual sobriety, and how we see our relationships with alcohol now.
