The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 485 – Psychological Reciprocity: The Genius Is In the Bag

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_485-TEM90B_MDM_01-15-21-Psychological_Reciiprocity.mp3 Decades ago, we used “psychological reciprocity” at Bob Proctor’s seminars to sell out products at the back of the room. We did this by giving away free bags—and we were amazed at the results. The psychological law of reciprocity says that when you induce certain feelings in a person, they’re programmed to automatically respond in a grateful way of some kind. If you give them something, very often they feel compelled (in a good way) to give something back.  If you want to see your sales go up dramatically, there are two things to consider: psychological reciprocity, and how to handle objections. You’ll also want to be able to determine whether an objection is real, or just an excuse.  In today’s episode you’ll learn:   Why using psychological reciprocity in your sales or marketing makes people feel special—and will increase your sales The 2 types of objections in a sales conversation—“psychological blocks” (when a person convinces themselves not to move forward) and circumstantial objections (like, “I don’t have the time or money”) How to figure out if an objection is real or just an excuse—and why you shouldn’t try to solve a problem that isn’t real How asking a “split question” gets you to the true answer with 98% of the people you talk to (because the human brain cannot think about two things at the same time) Once your industry finds out that something is working with psychological reciprocity, everyone will start doing it—and then it’ll stop working A sales professional does not get agitated; they don’t feel threatened or take anything personally that happens in a sales conversation   Your belief as a salesperson needs to be rock solid. You must understand human behavior and the nature of human beings. It’s your job to get better—and to ask better questions to help bring clarity to the other person during a sales call.  Your belief in why they CAN do something, needs to be more solid than their belief in why they can’t. Otherwise, they’re going to convince themselves not to do it. That’s human nature.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 485: Psychological Reciprocity: The Genius is in the Bag Be sure to join David over on You Tube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere near your audio podcast feed. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 484 – Mindset Monday’s – Ask For What You Want

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_484-TEM90B_MDM_12-28-20-ERS_Exercise-Ask_For_What_You_Want.mp3 Many years ago, I noticed a problem that came up in my mastermind group. Intelligent people in the group had tremendous potential, and they all wanted to take their businesses to multi seven figures. But the problem was—they couldn’t ask for what they wanted.  So I created a seminar to help them deal with that issue. It involved doing a simple exercise—walk up to strangers and ask, “What would it take for you to give me $20 and feel happy about the experience?” This exercise is a great mirror that reflects yourself right back to yourself. It quickly exposes whatever is going on inside of you psychologically and physiologically when you ask someone for money. Every one of your issues starts to come to the surface. It’s fascinating and life-changing if you actually do it. In today’s episode you’ll learn:   Why most people have issues around giving and receiving—due to shame, embarrassment, and fear around “breaking the rules” Why you might have a “getting” energy behind your asking—and why this drives others away from you What you want is already here—the problem is, you don’t know how to ask for it You can’t desire (or need) something, without that thing already being in your life somewhere, right now How two women sat next to each other and had two different experiences at the seminar—one became a multimillion, and the other went home and criticized people for a living and didn’t make any money How one of my seminar attendees received $20,000 after sharing their story of struggle (and this floored the whole audience) Why you must check your energy to make sure you’re giving (or receiving) from the right energy   Whatever you believe deep down is causing you to not be able to get what you want. This block often has to do with a psychological issue when it comes to asking for what you want.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 484: Mindset Monday’s – Ask For What You Want Be sure to stop over on The Successful Mind Podcast Channel on YouTube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere in your audio podcast feed.  We’ve already dropped several episodes in the series where David takes you through high level teachings around Raymond Holliwell’s classic book, Working With the Law.  If you’re ready to take the next step in exploring the Universal Laws and mindset it requires to be a huge success you’ll want to check this series out. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 483 – Full Throttle Thursday – Here’s The Thing About Luck…

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_483-FTT_Lucky.mp3 In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, we’re diving into the topic of “luck.”  What makes some people have good fortune or bad fortune? Is there a scientific process behind it, or is it all just pure superstition? Many years ago, I was sucked through the dam on the Illinois River. People told me I was “lucky” to survive. But I don’t believe it was luck. It was the cause and effect of certain events happening on the river. We have an insatiable need to give meaning to everything. We’ll even look for meaning where it doesn’t exist. Our mind is constantly looking for patterns, recognizing what’s happening around us. Our brain is always putting things together, based on whether we want to repeat or avoid certain experiences. In today’s episode BT and I discuss:   Why so many extremely successful people say that “luck” contributed to their success Why I believe luck is the result of your BELIEF—i.e., you either believe you have good fortune, or you believe you have bad fortune Why working class, broke people often spend their welfare checks on slot machines, while holding “lucky” monkeys, rabbit’s feet, and chains How casinos in Vegas use a “cooler” to disrupt you if you’re winning—because they understand that your vibrational pattern affects what’s happening How I win at roulette, because I’m not emotionally attached to the money, and I recognize the patterns they use to try to throw you off (like switching the dealer when you’re winning) How our mind operates on frequencies—and our belief controls the vibration at which we’re thinking and being How Michael Jordan wore his “lucky” North Carolina Tar heels practice shorts under his Bulls shorts and went back to his “lucky” number 23 after retiring   Plus, I share the story of how my daughter, Erin, became “really lucky” starting when she was a child—with a 10-year streak of winning incredible amounts of money. If you focus on good fortune, you’ll get more of it, because of the vibration you’re sending out. If you’re constantly saying “I’m unlucky,” that’s the energy you’re putting out there.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 483: Full Throttle Thursday – Here’s The Thing About Luck… Looking to take your mindset to the next level?  Be sure to stop over on The Successful Mind Podcast Channel on YouTube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere in your audio podcast feed.  We’ve already dropped several episodes in the series where David takes you through high level teachings around Raymond Holliwell’s classic book, Working With the Law.  If you’re ready to take the next step in exploring the Universal Laws and mindset it requires to be a huge success you’ll want to check this series out. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 482 – Cash Flow Killers – 4 Ways You’re Letting Success Pass You By – Part II

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_482-Cash_Flow_Killers-Part_II.mp3 Today I’m teaching on the remaining two of the 4 major cash flow killers in business: #3 – The middle class mindset #4 – Indecision  The middle class mindset is based on the idea of “safety.” As children, we’re taught to tiptoe through life, make it safely to death, and avoid all risk. We’re NOT taught how to step into our purpose or create a magnificent life. Because of this, the middle class mindset is like a prison cell that most people can’t ever get out of. Most people aren’t programmed to see opportunity—all they see is risk, danger, anxiety, nervousness, judgment, shame, or guilt around spending money In this episode you’ll learn:   “What entrepreneurs get paid for, the middle class get shamed for” In order to make money, you have to change in a good way To become wealthy, you must put good out into the world We’re not taught how to make decisions; we’re taught how to follow what we’re told to do and be obedient little children Your biggest cash flow to killer is YOU not making a decision to do something different  The truth of the universe is abundance, not lack   If you want to break out of the middle class mindset, you need to learn to be comfortable taking risks. If you make a wrong decision, you can always make a different decision.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 482: Cash Flow KIllers: 4 Ways You’re Letting Success Pass You By – Part II Be sure to join David over on You Tube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere near your audio podcast feed. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 481 – Cash Flow Killers – 4 Ways You’re Letting Success Pass You By – Part I

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_481-Cash_Flow_Killers-Part_I.mp3 Many business owners are inadvertently stifling and restricting the cash flow of their business. In working with thousands of entrepreneurs over the past several years, I’ve found that there are 4 key ways you might be letting success slip by you. These are major cash flow killers.  In today’s episode, I’m teaching on two of the four ways: #1 – Codependency—which means you’re reliant on others to get your needs met  (emotional needs, financial needs, and other needs).  #2 – Using hope as a strategy for growth. Codependency shows up in the following ways: You think and feel responsible for other people’s thoughts, actions, choices, wants, needs, wellbeing (or lack thereof), and their ultimate destiny—and you feel like you have to fix them. You feel anxiety, pity, and guilt when other people have a problem—and you take on their dysfunctional story. You feel compelled to help a person solve a problem, or rescue them. You offer unwanted advice and suggestions, due to feeling inadequate and wanting to feel important. You try to fix a person’s feelings—and therefore, you’re not focused on where you’re growing. You feel angry when your help isn’t effective—you take it personally, start self-judging, or self-shaming. You try to please other people instead of yourself. This leads to you NOT showing up as a whole, healthy individual who’s giving all of yourself to another person. You find it easier to feel or express anger about injustices done to others rather than injustices that are done to yourself. You feel safest when giving in a way that’s not healthy (think: giving with conditions or giving in a manipulative way). You feel insecure and guilty when somebody gives something to you. You feel sad because you spend your whole life giving to other people and nobody gives to you. (That’s actually a receiving problem where you don’t feel worthy of receiving something.)   Meanwhile, using hope as a strategy is also a cash flow killer. Instead of using the law of cause and effect to grow your business, you use wishful (or magical) thinking, while “hoping” that something will happen in your favor.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 481: Cash Flow KIllers: 4 Ways You’re Letting Success Pass You By – Part I Be sure to join David over on You Tube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere near your audio podcast feed. Full Throttle Thursday – Hell No, Joe Won’t Go: How Cancel Culture is Like Schoolyard Bullying

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_480-FTT_CantCancelRogan.mp3 The more successful you become, the more you open yourself up to trolls, criticism, and even being canceled. In this age of cancel culture, anyone can find themselves being canceled at any time for any reason. When that happens, it can feel like the whole world is coming after you. It’s intense—but really, it’s just a few people. It usually gets magnified by the media. Joe Rogan’s audience exploded over the past few years, reaching millions of people on Spotify. The media has tried to cancel him, but he refuses to give in. After he posted an apology on Instagram—Samuel L. Jackson suddenly spoke up about how “comfortable” Rogan seemed to be using a particular racial slur. Once again, the news media has blown this up, as a way to try to bring Rogan down again.  In today’s episode, BT and I discuss: Why I think Samuel L. Jackson’s response to Joe Rogan was ridiculous and probably strategic How cancel culture is no different than schoolyard bullying  The way the media uses click bait headlines to overcome a slow news cycle How the news makes money off selling you a story about the destruction of a human being or the potential destruction of a human being How Joe Rogan stood up to cancel culture and became one of the largest voices in the world if not THE largest There are no perfect people. Everyone makes mistakes. Being criticized is never about you. It’s about the people criticizing you. You just have to stand up, own what you’re doing, and not let yourself be bullied. They can only cancel you if you allow yourself to be canceled. Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 480: Full Throttle Thursday – Hell No, Joe Won’t Go… Samuel L. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 479 – Rise High for Success to See You

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_479-TEM90B_MDM_01-02-21-Rise_High_For_Success_to_See_You.mp3 Most people are taught a certain philosophy around work—that we must “start at the bottom,” and work really hard in order to rise up to a higher position in life. In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill said that’s one of the worst concepts for achievement possible—starting at the bottom. Because, “When you start at the bottom, you never raise high enough for success to see you.”  In today’s episode you’ll learn:   To achieve success, you need other successful people (“people of value”) to help you People of value are looking for other people of value to help them When we’re starting at the bottom, we’re not demonstrating much value If you want to be wealthy, you must provide more value than most people do Coming from a place of “need” is survival based—and way different than desire (survival is about saying, “I need to be safe; I can’t risk; I don’t want to lose anything”) The principles most people practice are NOT principles of success—they’re principles of survival How self-worth issues hold a person back—and why one of the biggest mistakes you can make is to project your emotional worth onto your product, service, or your client   You have to really think, “What rules are keeping me stuck?” Einstein said, “You can’t get out of a problem with the same thinking that created the problem.” In order to create a quantum leap, you have to move higher in your thinking. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 478 – Mindset Monday’s – Everything is Preparing You for Something Better

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_478-TEM90B_MDM_01-09-21-Everything_is_Preparing_You_For_Something_Greater.mp3 Any time you have a setback, challenge, or “WTF” moment, it provides an opportunity for good. Everything you’ve experienced in life is preparing you for something greater. You can look back on your own childhood, through the present day, and see how everything got you to this point. The real gift in your experiences might not show up right away—it might come tomorrow, or 5-10 years from now. That’s why you should be flexible and not take anything personally. When you act as if something is happening “to” you, you start to victimize and get indignant. But that doesn’t prepare you for the next challenge. How you meet current challenges will determine how prepared you are for future challenges. In this episode you’ll learn:   Why I don’t necessarily think “God tests people” or that we have to be prepared to pass the test The modus operandi of the universe is “more life”—which means everything you experience makes you stronger, so that you can sustain more life and ADD to life There’s either growth or death—there’s no in between How having an unstable mother and family life as a kid allowed me to adapt to instability very easily (which is great for business, where you have to stay calm under pressure) How moving 21 times as a kid taught me many different things that prepared me for when I went into the armed services…which later helped me save my own life when I went through the dam Why we should look at everything from a “God’s eye view” rather than a bug’s eye view   Plus, I share a crazy story about the most disturbing email I’ve ever received—in which someone attempted to extort money from me and my company. This experience taught me how to stand up in the face of fear, and how to handle it when someone is threatening to bring down everything you’ve worked for for 15-20 years. As it turns out, being embezzled out of $5 million (in the past) helped me navigate through that experience.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 478: Mindset Monday’s – Everything Is Preparing Your for Something Better Be sure to stop over on The Successful Mind Podcast Channel on YouTube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere in your audio podcast feed.  We’ve already dropped several episodes in the series where David takes you through high level teachings around Raymond Holliwell’s classic book, Working With the Law.  If you’re ready to take the next step in exploring the Universal Laws and mindset it requires to be a huge success you’ll want to check this series out. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 477 – Full Throttle Thursday – Inventing Anna

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_477-FTT_InventingAnna.mp3 SPOILER ALERT: If you have plans to watch the Netflix limited Series, Inventing Anna, you may want to hold off on listening to this until after you’ve seen the show. The new Netflix limited series, Inventing Anna,  gives a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a classic narcissist—Anna Delvey, aka Anna Sorokin, an Instagram influencer who charmed her way into stealing money from New York’s social elite. The show is told from the point of view of Vivian Kent, a journalist who interviews people who were impacted by Anna’s schemes and charms. Anna is played spectacularly by Julia Garner from the hit series Ozark. In today’s episode BT and I, along with my CEO, Steph Tuss, discuss some of our takeaways from binging the show:   Why Steph relates to Anna Delvey, in the sense of being “underestimated” in life How Anna learned to manipulate as a child, from seeing that her father could completely destroy people—and how Anna learns and grows in her ability to manipulate throughout the show How Anna had no boundaries and no barriers on when to stop—she knew which buttons to press, and if one button didn’t work, she’d switch her tactic midstream How narcissists hook us in by finding out what we want and feeding it back to us How a narcissist is like a Velociraptor testing the fence in Jurassic Park, trying to find a weakness so it can rip you apart The book Trust by Iyanla Vanzant—and how you should determine who you want in your life based on their “performance data”   We’re constantly putting people into the structure of whatever our own internal story is. That’s why many of us are susceptible to narcissists. I highly recommend watching Inventing Anna for its fascinating psychological perspective on human behavior.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 477: Full Throttle Thursday – Inventing Anna How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People by Jessica Pressler @theannadelvey on Instagram Looking to take your mindset to the next level?  Be sure to stop over on The Successful Mind Podcast Channel on YouTube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere in your audio podcast feed.  We’ve already dropped several episodes in the series where David takes you through high level teachings around Raymond Holliwell’s classic book, Working With the Law.  If you’re ready to take the next step in exploring the Universal Laws and mindset it requires to be a huge success you’ll want to check this series out. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 476 – The Desire to Succeed

https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_476-TEM90B_MDM_12-31-20-The_Desire_to_Succeed.mp3 The fact that you desire to succeed is evidence that you have the power to succeed. However, when doubt creeps into your mind, it attacks whatever you’re thinking about. When you’re working towards your goals or vision—and you’re trying to keep a positive mindset—something can happen in your external life, and doubt can creep in. It’s very suggestible, depending on what you’re experiencing. In today’s episode you’ll learn:   Why doubt is like a virus that attacks your thinking—and it changes HOW you’re thinking When we get immersed in doubt, we start to believe it and get emotionally entrenched in it When we get sucked into the drama of something, we can’t see the lie (or non-truth) in it Most people are programmed to ask, “When do we get to stop doing the thing we don’t like?”—that’s why we have “hump day” and “thank God it’s Friday” As entrepreneurs, we need to schedule our time off, to avoid becoming resentful The more fatigued your mind is, the easier it is for doubt to creep in   Your desire is a roadmap, and everything you need to succeed is already here. But doubt will screw up your desire faster than anything else, because it will turn it into fatigue. Suddenly you’ll question whether you can reach your goal, and you’ll feel like you’re never going to get there.  If you want to succeed at reaching your goals, you need to keep doubt completely out of your mind.   Links & Resources The Successful Mind Podcast on YouTube – Episode 476: The Desire to Succeed Be sure to join David over on You Tube for EXCLUSIVE content that you won’t find anywhere near your audio podcast feed.
