Even if what you choose to drink is very low in carbs (like dry wine or distilled liquor), those beverages still provide calories, and your body has to burn through the alcohol before you get back to burning fat. Your alcohol tolerance is also lower when you don't eat carbs, so you need to be careful about how much and how quickly you drink. You don't have to, of course -- ideally, none of us would ever "need" anything sweet -- but that's unrealistic for some folks. So the good news is, you can include certain sweeteners and still get great results with keto.    If you're living with obesity, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or some other issue related to insulin resistance, then very low-calorie and low-carb sweeteners (like sucralose, saccharin, stevia, or erythritol) are much better choices than regular sugar, corn syrup, or agave nectar.
