Episode 85: Interview with Matt Jordan - The Science of Strength and a Discussion on Periodization

This episodes guest is Sport Scientist and Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Jordan. Matt has a degree in Kinesiology and a Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Calgary.  Matt has been the personal Strength Coach to more than 20 World and Olympic medalists, and has worked with elite athletes in many sports including: speed skating, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, hockey, football, volleyball, and mixed martial arts.  Matt is now a Strength Coach, the Director of Strength and Conditioning for the Canadian Sports Institute-Calgary, and the Director of Sport Science and Sports Medicine for Alpine Canada. Matt is currently completing his Doctorate in Medical Science at the University of Calgary focusing on ACL injury/re-injury prevention in elite alpine ski racers. Derek is the former Sport Science manager of the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre (CACC), as well as the former Director of the UK Athletic's Centre at Loughborough from 2009-2012.  Derek has been involved in the development of several Canadian Champions and has coached many world class athletes including, Dylan Armstrong (Shot Put), Sophie Hitchon (Hammer Throw), and he is currently coaching Sultana Frizell who won Gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the Hammer Throw.
