Some guys think that keeping their wife anxious about how she is perceived is the key to making her stay on top of her game with fitness, dressing well, etc. From what I see in my practice and the people around me, the exact opposite is true. Guys that are super complimentary and adoring end up with wives who are more secure and dress and carry themselves with more confident sexiness, because they know that they will always knock the socks off their husband at varying levels. Women who think they have to look a certain way or their husbands won't be attracted to them end up hopeless when younger and not giving a shit when older, because eventually they think, "Who gives a shit about his standards, he's an asshole anyway." Often in my practice, I see the parents' issues with boundaries, insecurity and anxiety play out not only in the intimate relationship but in the parent/child relationships. When parents are unhappy, fighting, dissociating from conflict, drinking, zoning out into their phones and so forth, the kids can run wild and become, in today's day and age, not neglected as much as over-validated and over-parented. When parents are unhappy with their marriages, they often overidentify with the kids, assuming they are unhappy when they may not be, and give them too much materially to compensate for this projected unhappiness. Also, parents who feel lonely romantically often overrely on their kids for love and are scared to set boundaries that would make the children not like them as much in the moment. Some guys get in their own way by being A+ husbands according to any video that could be taken of them... but this illusion would dissipate if you added in the audio track. Playful, cuddly kids make women feel like a young mother, as these attributes are associated with young kids, and you can only have young kids if you've recently been young enough to have kids. And when a man wants a younger-acting wife, often this is because he still wants to feel like a young man. In both cases, people need to understand that as animals of all species grow and age, they grow less playful and enthusiastic, because they are more tired and have seen more of the world. If you are basing your own self-image on the youth of your kids or wife, is this really fair to them? This is a deep dive into your subconscious: do you really have issues with your sex life/love life because your wife's behavior means to you that YOU must be older than you wish you were, by virtue of being married to her?

Does Depression Go Away When You Get Remarried To A More Supportive Spouse?
Some people get divorced thinking that their recurrent lifetime depression will be cured if they find a better partner. And then during the "drunk on love" honeymoon phase with the next spouse, they truly do feel much better! However, time and time again, I see in my clients that depression was NOT due to your marriage solely, and does NOT get better in the next marriage. You can, however, become a depressed person who has a loving marriage. It's important to understand that your relationship isn't unilaterally causing depression or anxiety and the next one will not "fix" it. All this and more!

Some women say their husbands asking, "What can I do to help?" means that these men aren't doing enough "emotional labor." In reality, the women may be struggling with untreated depression/anxiety. Decision fatigue and other fatigue are endemic to depression, and if you find it extremely hard to tell your husband what you need him to do (in a dynamic where he is doing at least half if not more of the home/childcare), then it's probably not his fault in the way social media would have you think. It is the fault of depression, and recognizing this is half the battle!
