Tracking your progress

This series, I'm sharing insights from my book Work/Life Flywheel. In this episode, I explain why we value making progress so highly, and how to help track yours.Chapter Summary:Developing a journaling habit helps provide unique levels of self-awareness and insight.Recording significant events and emotions in a tracker allows you to spot connections between patterns of behaviour and thinking. As we get older and responsibilities rack up, a sense that we have fewer options gets stronger, but reimagining work needn't be a binary choice – either continuing in the same job or quitting. The secret is finding the motivation to get started and then giving yourself credit for the progress you make on your journey.Your work doesn't need to change the world to be meaningful. It just needs to matter to you.Micro-journaling focuses your attention on the things that matter most and recognises your progress each day.LINKS:Book Ollie to speak with your teamOllie's LinkedInFuture Work/Life NewsletterWork/Life Flywheel: Harness the work revolution and reimagine your career without fear, is out now. Lifelong learning

This series, I'm sharing insights from my book Work/Life Flywheel. In this episode, I discuss why we're moving to an era of the multi-stage life, and why that requires us to adapt our view of learning.Chapter Summary:An obsession with winning will hold you back, so it's essential to reframe success.Rather than comparing yourself to others, focus your energy on creating a work/life that gives you purpose and in which you feel like you're making progress.A longer, multi-stage life means more people will start their own businesses, develop portfolio careers and develop broader networks. As well as formal training, staying open-minded to new experiences and discovering new perspective accelerates your learning.Think about your approach to learning like elite sportspeople do about training and coaching – it should be highly personalised.Become autodidactic and use systems to keep you on track even when creativity or motivation falter.Keep your eyes open for new business opportunities based on problems you experience - how could you help solve them for others?Take advantage of communities to help your development and then pay it back to people earlier in their journey.Book Ollie to speak with your teamOllie's LinkedInFuture Work/Life NewsletterWork/Life Flywheel: Harness the work revolution and reimagine your career without fear, is out now. You can order your copy HERE (UK) or HERE (US).Here’s what Lynda Gratton, author of Redesigning Work, Professor of Management Practice at London Business School, has said about it:“We all know that the old three-stage life course of full-time education, full-time work and full-time retirement is not fit for purpose. But we also know that to make the changes to a more flexible and adaptive multi-stage life, we need to be bold and courageous. In this inspiring book, Henderson shows the foundations for this courage and shares the stories of those who have created momentum and energy in their working life.” Hosted on Acast.
