322. Dr. Dain Heer: From Chiropractic To Beyond, In Supporting People’s Healing And Being Your Extraordinary Self
Trigger warning: In today’s show our guest shares he was close to ending his life at one point. Please reach out to 13 11 14 (Australia) or 1-800-985-5990 USA Crisis Line or your local helpline if you need support, and this show also just may help but is in no way intended to treat, heal or diagnose any conditions. Hugs to you if right now is hard. Dr Dain Heer joins me today, after I recently had an Access Bars session that was so blissful and settling it led me to dig around a bit more and see who talks about it/ works with it and teaches it. It’s been a while since I’ve done a show that explores brain re-wiring techniques and ditching heavy stories that we hold as truth and towards the end of the show we do a live exploration of me + mould and while I can’t say it was a moment of change in my life, I can say I have just realised as I type this, I haven’t been sick from the house inspections we did the past two weekends which both had extensive water damage, so that’s interesting to me for sure - Dain made me realise that saying “the only way out is through” wasn‘t useful and that I have absolutely taken on board. We talk about: The problem with handing all our answers over to external sources. The hope that can be found in our darkest moments. How we can get on with celebrating ourselves - all of ourselves and we discuss neurodivergence and both having ADHD.How the desire to serve others can start one way and morph into more once you start practising and seeing limitations/further tools to put in one’s kit. The power of asking “Who does this belong to?” about every thought and feeling you have for 3 days. How we can separate what we *think* we need to change, from what we actually want to change. Dain shares this gold “What’s true for you will always make you lighter” to help us tune into . Enjoy the show and head to the show notes for more details over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast to learn more about Dain’s work and Access Bars as a therapeutic tool. 321. Dr Vincent Pedre - The Gut Smart Protocol + how to make it your own.
Dr Vincent Pedre is the kind of doctor you want in your corner - kind, compassionate, big picture thinking and on today’s show we are deep diving into gut health - if you missed the show we did a few years back it has aged well and you might want to double down with both eps. That first one is #123. This time round we talk about his new book, The Gut Smart Protocol, but within the show so much gold as well: The huge amount of diagnoses that can be traced back to gut health and yet often aren’tThe way we all might need to be coming into dietary changes differently depending on where we’re at (ie high histamine = don’t hit those fermented foods just yet!) and how to know what mix is best for your individual situation. We look at Vincent’s dessert Island gut foodsTips on how to work with your doctor and so much more. 320. Dr. James Khong, 81, on the key principles to thriving in an anxious world
Dr James Khong has been a GP for 5 decades and at age 81, has wonderful wisdom to share with us in this week’s show. The solution to the ‘Stress Pandemic,’ as James calls these times, is a combination of Eastern and Western medicine, as well as following his Pillars of Health and reducing stress. I know you’ll love his calm reasoned and overwhelm-free approach in this show. James outlines his philosophy of wellness in his new book Pandemic Stress, Reflections of Thriving in an Anxious world - a book her wrote as a way to leave a legacy from his career and life. In over fifty years as a surgical registrar, emergency medicine specialist, innovative GP and medical consultant to the Australian Ballet, film and television industry, James Khong has had a front row seat of the medical ‘industry,’ and the view makes him sick. Ironically, it was a near-death-experience twenty years ago, which led to James’ epiphany about changing the status quo medical model. He started to combine traditional Chinese/Western/Functional medicine, which look for causes to illness, rather than just addressing the symptoms. James also introduced meditation and breathing exercises for stress reduction. 319. Building a holistic support picture for ADHD with Dr James Greenblatt
ADHD - Traditionally thought of as a little-boy mental health picture is fast becoming recognised as something that many of us have been living with and creating coping mechanisms around, without being given the recognition of being neurodivergent - I am one such person diagnosed at the ripe old age of 47 - today’s show while focused primarily on children as Dr James Greenblatt’s work is focused there, it is very much a show for anyone who works with, lives with, cares for, teaches or loves anyone who either has a formal diagnosis or who you simply think “what is up with them!?” often about what they forget, their busy-ness, their inability to follow up or get a ‘simple’ thing done, their tapping their foot while you try to talk about something super important or perhaps their ‘too much’ ness sometimes. The shame that many people with ADHD feel for not being able to be like everyone wants or needs them to is really something that need not exist if we embrace diversity and difference and help each human find the space to thrive within our beautiful human race. I hope you enjoy this show as much as I did as we explore the many support tools on offer, the lack of judgement around stimulant medication, the importance of tools tips and tricks to bring out one’s best and the critical importance of removing food from the landscape that sabotages the neurodivergent brain more and faster than anything - ultra-processed food! You can head to the show notes for more details over at lowtoxlife.com/podcast Today’s guest James Greenblatt, MD is a clinical pioneer, speaker, and health system leader. Dr. Greenblatt is recognized as an authority on improving mental health outcomes with nutritional medicine. Dr. Greenblatt served for 19 years as Chief Medical Officer for Walden Behavioral Health. In 2019, Dr. Greenblatt bridged medicine and technology to launch Psychiatry Redefined, an online educational program for mental health providers. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. 318. Glenn Livingston - Bye bye Binge eating to find food freedom
Trigger Warning - If you have an eating disorder or mental health condition that requires medical treatment for impulsivity, we discuss binge eating and habit reform in this episode. Psychologist Glenn Livingston helps people towards healthy eating habits for a living. Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food. His work centres around self-exploration, kindness and achieving food freedom if you live a life lured by food constantly without a framework for breaking free. In today’s show we explore a world where we ‘never binge again’. Is it possible? Glenn believes wholeheartedly YES. Why is it that we knowingly do things that we know aren’t good for us? How can some people make changes and stick to them and you find it super hard? Do you find yourself boredom eating? Reaching for food repeatedly before meals? Finding you eat one thing that you know is less than ideal for health only to then do it more and more ‘because what the hey, you’re not perfect now so this is you’. xxx. 317. Dr Ali Walker - A doctor of group dynamics can teach us about who we click and clash with
What is an ex-criminal lawyer doing on the podcast you ask? Well, Dr Ali Walker wasn’t satisfied in that line of work and went on to study executive coaching and obtain a PhD in group dynamics. She wants all of us to have a framework and literacy around our own personality, energy, communication style and how we can contribute to group dynamics with our eyes wide open as well as understanding others better - at work, in our families in leadership. You’ll learn about high, mid and low-frequency types, as well as high, mid and low-intensity types and how we are all one of each in different combinations. You’ll even see Ali profile me live and absolutely nail my frequency and intensity combo type. Very cool. Knowing ourselves and being able to spot other people’s types helps us understand each other rather than have unnecessary misunderstandings and friction - Ali will help you take things way less personally about other people’s behaviour. Her new book “Click or Clash” is worth a read if you found today’s show interesting and want to go deeper. Profound work making relationships and group dynamics profoundly simpler! 316. Erin Lovell Verinder: Herbal Medicine And Detoxification - A holistic approach.
When we think detoxification these days, we often think quite mechanically about purging, killing things (mould/parasites), intensive programs, expensive labs et al, and while there is a time and place for all of it and it’s a bio-individual need, nutritionist and herbal medicine practitioner Erin Lovell Verinder wants us to explore what a day by day, bit by bit approach looks like by exploring the magnificent plants that help us detoxify and eliminate every day as well as the ways in which we might need to up the ante from time to time. We discuss her 3 x desert Island plants as a herbalist, how important the mindset around health is, the different ways in which we can become empowered by plants-as-medicine and incorporate them safely into our day to day.
