[06:30] Understanding Thyroid Allostasis: A Paradigm Shift in Health Conditions and Cellular Stress - Dr. Balcavage emphasizes that many health conditions are associated with adaptive changes in thyroid physiology. - Rather than solely focusing on thyroid gland dysfunction, he suggests that these changes often reflect an adaptive response to cellular stress. - When cells perceive stress or danger, they shift from manufacturing to defense. This results in a slowed metabolism and a ramping up of defense mechanisms. - The level of T3 hormone inside the cell plays a crucial role in regulating this shift towards defense mode. - Dr. Balcavage introduces the concept of "thyroid allostasis," wherein thyroid hormone regulation differs from the typical pattern. He suggests that individuals with chronic health issues often exhibit this altered regulation, which may manifest as tissue hypothyroidism as an adaptive response. [10:00] Redefining Thyroid Recovery: Medication Dependency and Natural Healing - Dr. Balcavage challenges the notion that the thyroid gland is unlikely to recover once someone is on thyroid medication. - He believes that many people are prescribed medication prematurely and that for those who genuinely need it, there's often potential to reduce medication dosage over time. - He observes that many of his patients can gradually reduce their thyroid medication dosage and even stop taking it altogether. - Some individuals who have been on medication for years or even after a complete thyroidectomy have experienced a decrease in their medication needs. - Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the body's remarkable capacity for healing and adaptation. [13:50] The Role of Thyroid Hormone in Mitochondrial Function and Adaptation to Stress - When a cell perceives danger or a drop in energy, it initiates a response aimed at self-preservation. This includes stiffening the cell membrane to limit the transport of substances in and out of the cell. - In response to perceived threats, cells adaptively down-regulate their manufacturing processes to minimize the production of substances that could benefit potential threats, such as amino acids and peptides. - The thyroid hormone is crucial in driving mitochondrial function and is essential for converting food energy into cellular energy. However, continued stimulation of mitochondrial function during cellular stress can produce excessive free radicals. - Excessive free radicals and limited antioxidant production due to decreased nutrient availability and down-regulated mitochondrial function can result in oxidative stress and cellular damage. To counteract this, the body adaptively down-regulates mitochondrial function and cellular activity, leading to symptoms such as fatigue and decreased energy levels. [21:00] Embracing Dietary Diversity: A Holistic Approach to Thyroid Health and Nutrition - Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of consuming a diverse range of whole foods, including animal- and plant-based sources. - He suggests that there isn't necessarily one "best" food for thyroid health but instead encourages a balanced approach with various nutrient-rich foods. - Dr. Balcavage contrasts allopathic thinking, which may focus on strict dietary restrictions based on specific food categories, with a more holistic approach that prioritizes whole foods and individual tolerance. - He rejects labeling entire food groups as inherently harmful and instead encourages listening to one's body and consuming a balanced diet. [31:00] Thyroid Function Complexity: Ketogenic Diets and Optimal Thyroid Health - Dr. Balcavage acknowledges the complexity of cellular function and challenges the notion that adopting a ketogenic diet necessarily leads to a lower T3 state. - He suggests that cellular hypothyroidism and challenges with glucose regulation may impact the body's ability to burn fats efficiently. - He questions the "optimal ranges" for thyroid hormones and suggests that individual variation and context should be considered when interpreting lab results. - Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of understanding thyroid function's nuances rather than strictly adhering to predetermined ranges. [38:40] An Approach to Stool Test Analysis and Gut Health Restoration - Dr. Balcavage emphasizes the importance of interpreting stool test results individually rather than applying generalized labels such as "good" or "bad." - Factors like an individual's overall health status and specific symptoms must be considered. - He suggests elevated markers on stool tests, such as formic acid, may not always indicate an adverse health outcome. Contextual factors, such as an individual's weight status or dietary habits, must be considered to interpret these findings accurately. - He advocates addressing underlying factors contributing to dysbiosis and immune dysfunction rather than solely focusing on symptom management. Factors such as stomach acid production, bile flow, pancreatic enzyme output, and overall immune function should be assessed and supported to restore gut health effectively. AND MUCH MORE! He advocates for using dumbbells in workouts, provides injury-smart alternatives to traditional exercises, and stresses the significance of proper timing and energy management in workout routines. [09:15] Foundations of Effective Coaching: Prioritizing Client Safety and Personalization - Obi emphasizes gathering detailed client information, including their height, weight, fitness goals, dietary preferences, allergies, and any past or present injuries or health concerns. This comprehensive assessment forms the foundation for creating a tailored program that ensures safety and effectiveness. - He highlights the potential dangers of not collecting this information, as it could lead to prescribing exercises that are inappropriate or even harmful to the client. For instance, someone with a history of knee or back surgery may be at risk if they are assigned exercises like squats or deadlifts without proper consideration. - Obi underscores the coach's responsibility to ensure their client's safety and well-being. By taking pride in not having any injuries under his supervision, he emphasizes the importance of being thorough and attentive to each client's needs. - Lastly, Obi touches upon the ethical dimension of coaching. He suggests that failure to gather essential information and tailor programs accordingly is akin to "stealing money" from clients, as they are not receiving the personalized guidance they paid for. [16:00] Redefining Bodybuilding: The Evolution, Risks, and Health Considerations - Obi discusses how bodybuilding has evolved from simply building one's body to an extreme pursuit characterized by intense exercise regimens, excessive dieting, and water depletion before competitions. - He highlights this extreme lifestyle's negative impact on overall health, including cognitive and cardiovascular function. - Despite the goal of achieving the best physique, Obi argues that bodybuilding is contradictory to optimal health. He emphasizes the toll it takes on the body, especially with the use of performance-enhancing drugs, which can lead to organ enlargement and irreversible damage. - Obi urges individuals interested in bodybuilding to consider the risk versus reward aspect carefully. While the allure of fame and success may be enticing, he stresses the importance of evaluating whether sacrificing years of one's life and risking long-term health consequences is genuinely worth it. [21:55] Dumbbell-Based Workouts and Injury-Smart Alternatives - Obi advocates using dumbbells over other equipment, citing their ability to provide a free range of motion and better muscle-shaping potential. - He believes exercises like flat dumbbell chest presses and dumbbell squat calf raises are practical for building and shaping muscle. - While acknowledging the popularity of the bench press, Obi expresses concerns about its potential to cause shoulder injuries. He suggests opting for alternatives like flat dumbbell chest presses to reduce the risk of injury while effectively targeting the chest muscles. - Obi emphasizes the importance of focusing on triceps training to improve arm shape, as the triceps make up two-thirds of the arm. He recommends exercises like bench dips for targeting and shaping the triceps effectively. - Obi suggests incorporating exercises like wall sits and T-bar rows into workout routines. He praises wall sits for their simplicity and effectiveness, especially when combined with dumbbells for added resistance. He highlights T-bar rows as an excellent exercise for targeting the back muscles. [29:00] Workout Timing and Energy Management - Obi recommends doing cardio after weight training rather than before. - He explains that cardio before weight training can deplete energy levels and affect strength during the weightlifting session. However, if cardio must be done before weight training on the same day, he suggests allowing a couple of hours for recovery between the two workouts. - While there's a common belief that fasted cardio promotes more significant fat loss, Obi highlights that studies have not consistently shown significant differences in fat loss between fasted and non-fasted cardio sessions. - He suggests that if doing cardio in the morning on an empty stomach, it's beneficial to at least have a protein shake beforehand to sustain energy levels. [44:00] Striking the Balance: Muscle Growth and Recovery - Obi emphasizes the importance of balancing muscle growth's breakdown and recovery phases. - He explains that while it's crucial to challenge muscles through intense workouts, adequate recovery time is equally essential for optimal growth and strength maintenance. - Proper recovery plays a vital role in maintaining muscle mass and strength levels. - He highlights the importance of understanding the scientific aspects of exercise, including muscle recovery, to optimize training routines. [54:20] Health: The True Wealth - Obi's Perspective on Gratitude and Priorities - Obi expresses deep gratitude for his health, emphasizing that it extends beyond aesthetics. - He highlights the importance of being healthy and functional, acknowledging the blessings of walking, sleeping, and moving without health complications. - He urges listeners not to take their health for granted, recognizing that individuals are battling life-threatening conditions in intensive care units. - Obi underscores the value of health over material wealth, emphasizing that money can be earned, but health cannot be bought. [02:30] 3 Steps to Reprogram Your Mind: Authority, Intensity and Repetition · Authority is when someone comes to you with a message, and you don't have any reference point. · Intensity is when the message has an emotional impact, while the subconscious mind is when you focus on decisions. · Repetition is when you create a dangerous emotional imprint in the subconscious mind. The problem is when this map of reality is not consistent with your goals, then you need to evaluate your beliefs and then start to change them subconsciously. · The inductive mind is the creative mind that imprints information into the subconscious mind and looks for coincidences with the idea. · The inductive mind is the creative mind, and the subconscious mind is the set goal. The reticular activating system is an area in our mind that opens up when we focus on something, allowing us to see things that were not there before. [22:29] The Impact of Food Consumption on Our Conscious and Subconscious Mind. · Social influences on food intake refer to the impact that one or more persons have on the eating behavior of others, either direct (buying food) or indirect (learning from peer's behavior), either conscious (transfer of beliefs) or subconscious. · Observation and food consumption elicit positive affective responses, stimulating food intake. It revealed that the observation and consumption of food activate brain regions related to affective processing. · When we have enough energy, conscious deliberation enables us to make good decisions. The unconscious, on the other hand, seems to operate fine with low energy. [28:35] Fix Your Circadian Rhythm to Lose Weight · A nucleus is an area in the brain behind the eyes responsible for telling the time. When the sun releases blue light, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters, such as melatonin, which is the one that leads to going to sleep. Melatonin is produced during the morning and used later at night. · Light produces endorphins in the eyes, which synchronize the system to get BC and do physical exercise. This is due to the rhythm in cortisol that starts to go up whenever you see the first hours of the morning and the light, which is why we don't use fasting glucose anymore as a valid test. · When exposed to sunlight, you produce the vitamin D necessary to gain muscle mass. However, if you avoid sunlight, for whatever reason, you are more inclined to lose muscle mass due to the missing part of vitamin D. · Vitamin D is an antioxidant. If you consume a lot of ultra-processed carbohydrates, you are using your firehose with carbohydrates instead of getting this vitamin, getting the processes to lower other general inflammation. [40:08] Natural Light vs Artificial Light; How This Influences Weight Loss · When people take sunshine, their anxiety goes down, but when they are anxious, they crave sweets and salty foods. · When they are sleep deprived, they start their day with higher-than-normal glucose levels, and if they exercise, they will have a glucose spike. Insulin can remove the excess glucose and put them back on the level where they start with cravings. · Any lifestyle promoting insulin resistance will worsen matters, and food stimuli are only four to 5% of the brain's ability to change eating patterns. To move forward, starting with the water flow and sleeping at the correct time is important. · Light significantly influences our eating patterns and behavior, with 46% of neurons in our brain being stimulated by light. · The brain is programmed to adapt to longer days during the summertime and shorter days during the wintertime, which means that we need to prepare ourselves and accumulate energy in terms of fat being brought to our system. She discusses the popularity of peptides in the skincare industry. She notes that while they may be trending in biohacking, they have been utilized in medical aesthetics and skincare for some time. Rachel advises against falling for trends and gimmicks, instead advocating for tried-and-tested skincare ingredients and practices. We explore the relationship between air quality and skin health, revealing that debris in the air can accelerate the death of keratinocyte stem cells, leading to premature aging. She emphasizes the necessity of ensuring water quality, especially considering the various processes it undergoes before reaching consumers. Rachel mentions several methods for water purification, including reverse osmosis, alkalization, hydrogenation, structuring, and remineralization. She advises against drinking water from plastic bottles and suggests questioning the quality of restaurant water unless it's confirmed to be filtered or purified. [27:40] Rachel's Insights on Processed Foods, Blood Type Diets, and Gut Health Rachel highlights processed foods as significant contributors to oxidative stress, citing ingredients like nitrates and MSG. She notes correlations between heavily processed meats and health issues such as colon cancer, emphasizing the importance of avoiding such foods to reduce oxidative stress levels. Rachel discusses the concept of eating according to one's blood type. She mentions the use of gut tests and nutrition tests to obtain a more specific understanding of individual dietary needs. She advocates for personalized approaches to nutrition based on individual gut health and metabolic profiles. [42:50] EMF Sensitivity and Oxidative Stress: Grounding and Children's Health Rachel discusses a correlation between high oxidative stress levels and increased sensitivity to electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Individuals with higher oxidative stress may be more vulnerable to the effects of EMFs, highlighting the importance of managing oxidative stress for overall health. Rachel emphasizes the significance of grounding by getting outside barefoot daily, which can help mitigate the impact of EMFs. She expresses concern for children's exposure to EMFs, mainly as they spend more time on technology and in environments with high EMF levels. AND MUCH MORE! Anthony Chaffee, MD | Throw Away Your Kale & Eat Your Red Meat, The Shocking Link Behind Plant Toxins & Autoimmune Disease, How to Know Which Vegetables Are Safe For You KKP: 744
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Anthony Chaffee. He’s an American medical doctor and Neurosurgical resident who, over a span of 20+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health. He claims that the majority of the so-called chronic illnesses are brought on by the food we consume and can be treated by switching to a diet tailored to our species. About 23 years ago, when Dr Anthony was taking cancer biology at the University of Washington, they were learning about the roles of plants. Plants in general have about a million different defense chemicals that are used to poison and deter animals and insects from meeting them up. They need to be able to protect themselves because animals and insects are constantly attacking them. They learned that quite a few plant toxins had already been demonstrated to be carcinogenic by researchers and that people had even recognized this fact. Brussels sprouts had 136 identified carcinogens, and then mushrooms had over 100. And then all of these different produce items that people would eat on a regular basis would have dozens and dozens of different carcinogens in them. That’s why Dr Anthony is on full carnivore. In this episode, Dr Anthony speaks about the toxins people are getting from eating plants. He gives some advice on what you can do to avoid chronic disease and live a longer life. Tune in as we chat about carcinogens, plant toxins, hormetic effects, and the effects of eating full carnivore on your body. -------------------------------------------------------- Download your FREE Vegetable Oil Allergy Card here: https://onlineoffer.lpages.co/vegetable-oil-allergy-card-download/ / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S 🥑 Get your fat burning keto recipes each week delivered to your inbox, for less than $10 per month: http://www.ketokamprecipes.com / / E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S ⭐ Biotiquest Sugar Shift probiotic. Controlling blood sugar levels and insulin resistance are issues with diabetes. Lowering your insulin is the treatment for that. How may insulin levels be decreased? You lessen the level of carbs in your body. When you stop eating carbohydrates, your body will produce the right amount of carbohydrates, which will cause your insulin levels to decrease. Dr Anthony hasn’t heard of many people doing a Plant-based diet to cure type one diabetes but there are studies with ketogenic diets helping type one and type two diabetes. Some people with type one diabetes have radically changed how they manage their condition by adopting carnivorous or even ketogenic diets. They only need to provide a small amount of long-acting insulin, which will last them for the entire day, rather than many doses of the drug throughout the day. [18:52] All Plants Have Carcinogens! Why Plants Are Trying to Kill You There are undoubtedly things that have the potential to have hormetic effects. However, there is a claim that all of these plant toxins, literally millions of them, are not produced by plants for human benefit because we are not living in the Garden of Eden. There's no actual evidence provided to say which chemicals are hormetic. At what dosage? Just get one leaf from your spinach or sage. That doesn't necessarily have all the same chemicals. What kind of surroundings did it grow in? What kind of soil was it? What time was the pick? When must it be chosen as having to be freshman, it must be medicines. All of these objects' chemical makeups are altered by this. And so now all of a sudden, you don't know what dosage of digitalis you're getting. You can experience this beneficial hormetic effect in very small dosages. But it's in very controlled doses. [24:04] How can you tell whether something is working for or against you? You could follow an entire elimination diet. Do it for a month, then assess your feelings. After that, you introduce each thing one at a time. Some people are more resistant to these harmful chemicals and will have a better ability to detoxify these things. [31:51] Eating The Right Animal Protein on the Carnivore Diet Pick through exactly what you're eating. You can gain a small volume of muscle and bone and lose a large volume of fat and you'll gain weight, but your body composition will be different, and your clothes will fit differently. [44:03] Heart rate variability: A sign to see if meat or plant toxic are good or bad for you? Nothing in meat will disrupt your heart's rhythm or bring on an arrhythmia. However, you might be hiding something. For example, your electrolytes are slightly out of balance, which is uncommon on a carnivorous diet. However, it may be claimed that when you switch to a ketogenic diet or a carnivore diet that is ketogenic from eating a lot of carbohydrates while your insulin is up, your levels of insulin suddenly go down. Chronic mistreatment, such as severe calorie restriction over prolonged periods, can definitely harm it. - Drawing from her own experiences with professional ballet dancers, she underscores the potential damage caused by extreme dietary habits. - Her doctoral research dives into the energy metabolism of female athletes, comparing professional athletes with recreationally active ones. Surprisingly, despite the rigorous training schedules of professional athletes, they consumed significantly fewer calories than their recreational counterparts. Moreover, their metabolic rates were notably lower, indicating the adverse effects of chronic under-eating on metabolism. - Despite the grim picture painted by metabolic damage, Dr. Lucas offers a beacon of hope. She asserts that, based on her extensive experience working with individuals and her own journey, it's possible to rehabilitate a damaged metabolism and restore it to a healthy state. [08:10] Overcoming Emotional Barriers: The Key to Successful Weight Loss - Dr. Lucas highlights how fear often manifests as a significant barrier to progress. Whether it's fear of failure or fear of success, these emotions can derail individuals from reaching their weight loss goals. - The power of mindset in achieving weight loss goals cannot be overstated. Dr. Lucas emphasizes that individuals who approach their journey with an open mind and a positive attitude tend to have smoother transformations. - Visualization and belief in the possibility of reaching a lower weight play crucial roles in overcoming self-imposed limitations. - Weight loss isn't just about shedding physical pounds; it's also a journey of emotional release. [12:45] Environment Matters: Cultivating Surroundings for Success - Dr. Lucas emphasizes the profound influence of our environment on our behavior and thought patterns. - She echoes the sentiment that our surroundings often have more sway over our actions than sheer willpower alone. By acknowledging the significance of the environment, individuals can begin to cultivate surroundings conducive to their goals. - She highlights the tendency to construct stories based on our thoughts, reinforcing certain beliefs and behaviors. To counteract this, she suggests actively rewriting these stories through positive self-talk and exposure to uplifting content. - Gratitude emerges as a powerful tool for shifting perspective and fostering positivity. Dr. Lucas advocates for daily gratitude practices, even in the face of challenges. [16:50] Unlocking Weight Loss Success: Prioritizing Quality Sleep - Dr. Lucas acknowledges that individuals have different lifestyles and schedules but emphasizes that achieving weight loss goals is still possible regardless of circumstances. - She shares success stories of clients from varied professions, highlighting that commitment and dedication are essential for success. - Dr. Lucas emphasizes the importance of not just the duration but also the quality of sleep. She explains how fragmented sleep can hinder weight loss progress, citing research indicating the hormonal impact of inadequate sleep on metabolism and appetite regulation. - She advises individuals to prioritize obtaining sufficient, uninterrupted sleep each night to optimize hormonal balance, reduce stress, and facilitate weight loss more effectively. [34:30] Exercise for Wellness: Maximizing Health Beyond Weight Loss - Dr. Lucas views exercise not solely as a weight loss tool but as a holistic approach to wellness. - She emphasizes that incorporating exercise into one's routine can improve overall well-being by reducing stress, improving sleep, and boosting mood. - Highlighting the significance of muscle mass, Dr. Lucas underscores its role as a marker of longevity and metabolic currency. She warns against neglecting muscle mass during weight loss, as losing muscle can decrease metabolic rate and hinder long-term success. - Dr. Lucas recommends three main types of exercise: brisk walking, strength training, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). [51:00] Examining Food Additives: A Call for Stricter Regulation and Informed Consumption - Dr. Lucas discusses California's ban on Red Dye 40, an ingredient commonly found in foods like Skittles. - She highlights its link to behavioral issues and cancer, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations on harmful additives in food products. - Dr. Lucas advocates for a balanced approach to consuming treats, especially during Halloween. - Rather than completely restricting candy, she suggests allowing children to enjoy a moderate amount while being mindful of the potential impact of additives on health. - Dr. Lucas raises awareness about the profit-driven motives of food companies and the lack of regulation surrounding harmful additives in the United States compared to Europe. Delighted to welcome back Cynthia Thurlow, a dear friend of the show, joining us today. She is a globally recognized expert in nutrition & intermittent fasting, highly sought after speaker, CEO and founder of Everyday Wellness Project. She’s been a nurse practitioner for 20+ years, is a 2x TEDx speaker: her 2nd talk on intermittent fasting has been viewed over 7 million times. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW and in Medium and Entrepreneur. Cynthia was recently listed in Yahoo Finance as one of the “21 founders changing the way we do business.” She’s also the host of Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as “20 podcasts that will help you grow in 2020” by Entrepreneur magazine, and in Business Insider “21 podcasts to expand your mind in 2021.” In this episode, Cynthia dives into the realm of fasting, extending beyond its commonly associated benefits of body composition changes and weight loss. Emphasizing a holistic perspective, she draws attention to the contrast between modern lifestyles and historical eating habits, underlining the impact of constant food accessibility on our body's optimal functioning. Cynthia navigates through individualized strategies for women's well-being, from insights on cellular regulation, protein intake, and addressing hypoglycemia to tailoring intermittent fasting based on age and hormonal fluctuations. [04:15] Fasting, Metabolic Flexibility, and Reconnecting with Natural Body Functions - Cynthia emphasizes that the benefits of fasting extend beyond changes in body composition and weight loss. While many people initially turn to intermittent fasting for these reasons, she suggests that it's crucial to recognize the broader impact on the body's optimal functioning. - Cynthia highlights the contrast between modern-day lifestyles and historical eating habits. She mentions that, until about a century ago, food scarcity was common, and people often experienced periods of fasting. - With the rise of processed foods and constant food accessibility, our bodies may not be functioning optimally. Fasting, according to Cynthia, helps individuals reconnect with the natural way our bodies are designed to operate. - The body should be able to flexibly switch between utilizing stored carbohydrates and fats for energy. By training the body through fasting and mindful meal structuring, individuals can enhance their metabolic flexibility. [16:15] Cellular Regulation, Protein Intake, and Healthy Solutions - Cynthia emphasizes that hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar, is not a benign condition. Instead, she sees it as a sign that the receptors on cells are not properly regulated. - Cynthia notes that individuals, especially women, often under-eat protein unknowingly. She links this to metabolic health issues and suggests reflecting on the protein content of meals prior to hypoglycemic episodes. - Ensuring an adequate intake of protein becomes a fundamental aspect of addressing hypoglycemia. - Cynthia advises against traditional sugary solutions for hypoglycemia, such as juice, candy, or muffins. Instead, she recommends healthier options, like a piece of fruit paired with protein. [23:15] Intermittent Fasting: Age, Hormones, and Strategies for Women's Well-being - Cynthia emphasizes that women's fasting strategies should consider age and hormonal fluctuations. Menopausal women and men share similarities in hormonal stability, while younger women, especially those under 35, experience more significant hormonal changes. This distinction guides the approach to intermittent fasting for different age groups. - Lean athletic women aged 35 and under are advised to be cautious with regular fasting. Cynthia suggests that even if they are not planning to have children, these women's bodies are sensitive to nutrient depletion. - Women under 35 who are not metabolically healthy, especially those with conditions like PCOS, may benefit from intermittent fasting. - Perimenopausal women (35 to 50) experience hormonal fluctuations, making stress management and quality sleep crucial. Cynthia advises against adding intermittent fasting if stress and sleep are not well-managed. [40:30] Health Conditions, Medication Stability, and Individual Well-being - Cynthia emphasizes that the effectiveness and safety of intermittent fasting depend on the individual's context. She highlights that one's health condition, including factors like Hashimoto's, medication stability, energy levels, and overall well-being, should be considered before incorporating fasting. - Cynthia advises caution for individuals who are newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism and are experiencing symptoms such as low energy, hair loss, constipation, and dry skin. She suggests that fasting should not be added to the treatment regimen during this stage. - Stability on medication and overall well-being are prerequisites for considering intermittent fasting. - There is no one-size-fits-all recommendation, and what may work for one person might not be suitable for another. [44:30] Navigating Heart Rate Variability: Age, Travel, and Autonomic Balance - Cynthia acknowledges that heart rate variability (HRV) varies with age, and she doesn't expect her HRV to match that of someone younger. - She emphasizes the individual nature of HRV and the understanding that age plays a role in its fluctuations. - Cynthia shares her experience of how travel can affect HRV. She mentions a specific instance in Denver where her HRV dropped, highlighting that environmental factors, such as changes in location, can influence HRV readings. - Cynthia sees HRV as a valuable tool for assessing the balance in the autonomic nervous system. She explains how HRV provides an objective measure of the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) sides of the autonomic nervous system. [47:20] Cynthia Unveils the Physiological Depths of Intermittent Fasting - Cynthia argues that the benefits of intermittent fasting stem more from eating less often than simply eating fewer calories. - She believes there are physiological changes beyond caloric restriction, including alterations in hormonal regulation and autophagy. - Cynthia challenges the notion that intermittent fasting is solely about calories in, calories out. - She highlights the importance of understanding that intermittent fasting involves more than just caloric restriction, emphasizing hormonal regulation and the process of autophagy. Dr Nick Bitz | How to Kill Zombie Senescent Cells With Autophagy to Lower Inflammation, Boost Immunity & Reverse Aging! KKP: 739
Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr Nick Bitz. He is a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine specialising in Ayurvedic medicine. He is presently the Senior Vice President of Product Development at Neurohacker Collective, a company that uses complex systems research to create revolutionary solutions for health and well-being. Dr Nick is interested in Ayurvedic medicine because of his health crisis. When he was a kid, he fell out of a tree, causing a chronic back issue. Not letting his health crisis pull him down, Dr Nick began his journey of self-care and healing. He dives into Buddhist meditation, yoga, and Ayurveda. Eventually, he landed on acupuncture, where he saw the light that he would live a life free of chronic pain. He uses all the tools he can to heal himself. Ultimately, Dr Nick moved to India and focused on Ayurvedic medicine. In this episode, Dr Nick Bitz talks about what cellular senescence is and why it is related to the reason why humans age. He also discusses keeping healthy cells and developing resilience. Aside from that, Dr Nick dives into why fasting is critical to reset our bodies. Tune in as we chat about cellular senescence, fasting, developing resilience, Qualia Resilience Supplement, and building immune health. [10:22] What Cellular Senescence Is And Why is It Connected To Aging Humans One of the nine hallmarks of aging is cellular senescence. Senescence is a Latin term derived from cynics that simply means to age. As a cell matures and goes through senescence, that's what's known as cellular senescence. The core of aging occurs when cells within our bodies cease dividing and just stay within the body; this is known as senescence cells. [17:20] Tips To Prevent Senescence Cells and Keep Cells Healthy Free radicals can cause senescence cells. Increasing NAD levels would aid in support of mitochondrial pathways, ensuring the health of cells. You want to make sure that when cells are harmed, they have the ability to repair themselves. Consuming too much alcohol and eating too many fried meals can all contribute to damaged cells, which subsequently initiate the body's senescence cell mode. [28:06] The Health Benefits of Stress! A little amount of stress is beneficial to us since it will be the cause to move you into action. Cold plunges are also helpful because they create resiliency on every level of the body. Apart from stress and cold plunges, adaptogens also create resilience. It is like a buffer in the external world. [31:32] Fasting Is Critical To Let Your Body Heal And Reset From This Toxic World Fasting is one of the lifestyles that support cellular senescence. Fasting stimulates Autophagy. Thus it can help prevent senescence cells. With the toxic world we live in, fasting is critical to let our body reset and do its normal functions. Fasting, in general, is most suited to big heavyset body types. [38:24] Do This to Boost Your Mental Function Qualia Resilience Supplement is a stress formula that doesn't inhibit motivation. Its purpose is to elevate mental function as well as buffered the effects of stress. You can do the regimen for five days on and then take a break on weekends. This will give you more freedom. It is not intended to knock you out in order to encourage deep sleep. It's designed to provide you with adaptogenic chemicals that normalize physiology needed later in the evening. And that's exactly what it's intended for; it's mostly a nocturnal adaptogen; I wouldn't advocate using adaptogens in the afternoon. [47:40] How to Build a Bulletproof Immune System Immune cells, like all other cells in the body, ultimately die. And as these immune cells age, your immune function declines over time. As a result, part of the immune cell function and purpose in the body is to monitor the body for these senescent cells and subsequently remove and eradicate them. Beta-glucans can help your body build immunity. You may start small and gradually increase your immune intelligence so that when you have any environmental exposure, your body is ready to respond in a healthy, intelligent manner. Taking Vitamin D, vitamin K, and zinc regularly is also recommended to build immunity. AND MUCH MORE!
