Originally Aired: Dec 16, 2019June is PTSD awareness month, so we are rerunning our interview with psychotherapist Tammy Valicenti. How have we gone this long without hearing about EMDR-Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing? The team feels indebted to Tammy Valicenti, a practicing psychotherapist and trauma recovery specialist with expertise in trauma and addiction recovery, for teaching us about this therapy that is helping heal people with incredible success rates. EMDR helps the patient process and resolve stored memories using an eight-phase approach. Practitioners initially used it to treat people with traumatic memories, but they now use it to treat a variety of disorders, including: phobias, PTSD, anxiety, chronic pain and depression. EMDR addresses the past experience of trauma, the present triggers for dysfunctional emotions and beliefs, and the positive experience needed to improve future mental and emotional functioning.About Tammy: Tammy Valicenti, LICSW is the founder of The Transformation Center located in the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts. She is a practicing psychotherapist with expertise in trauma and addiction recovery. Tammy works with clients nationally and internationally and has renowned success utilizing EMDR to treat trauma, anxiety and panic as well as to enhance performance for actors and entrepreneurs.
