Rejection, Loss, and Abandonment: On-Air Counseling Session with Christine Caine

Over the next few weeks I’ll be having raw, open, and honest conversations with some of the top Christian leaders and teachers, asking them: Are YOU really ok?  This series of on-air counseling sessions with some of the most influential teachers and leaders in the Church, is leading up to the one-year anniversary of my book, Are You Really OK?, challenging each and every one of us to get real about how we’re really doing mentally and emotionally. It takes courageous people to openly and publicly talk about their journey with mental and emotional health, but these are the exact conversations that begin taking down the stigma, paving the way for us to truly get real about how we’re doing as Christians. Today’s session is with my dear friend Christine Caine. Christine is a Jesus-loving, passionate, international speaker and author. Along with her husband, she’s the founder of A21, an anti-human trafficking campaign that’s saving lives across the globe. Christine opens up and shares about a dark time of rejection and pain that lasted almost two years….so dark, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to make it to the other side. This season of loss, grief, and abandonment stretched her behind her wildest imagination. It impacted her body, her sleep, and her peace. Her story is going to open your eyes to the challenges so many people go through without our awareness. But it will give you hope in your own dark time. I know this on-air session with Christine will challenge you. Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK? So sit back, and take in this vulnerable conversation with Christine Caine on the Are You Really OK? Podcast Series a part of the Love + Relationships Podcast with Debra Fileta.  Now it’s your turn. It’s time for YOU to get real about how you’re doing. Grab a copy of Are You Really OK? for yourself, and let’s do the work of getting healthy from the inside out. It takes courageous people to openly and publicly talk about their journey with mental and emotional health, but these are the exact conversations that begin taking down the stigma, paving the way for us to truly get real about how we’re doing as Christians. Today’s session with Natalie Grant is SO hopeful. A top Christian female vocalist, she has been through her own journey with anxiety and panic in the most unexpected places. She hit her low point in her depression, where she literally couldn’t get up to shower or care for herself and needed the people in her life to carry her through. Her story will remind you that you are not alone, that you don’t have to be okay, and that there is room for Jesus, therapy AND medication in your life. All of the above. I know this on-air session will challenge you. Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK? Over the next few weeks I’ll be having raw, open, and honest conversations with some of the top Christian leaders and teachers, asking them: Are YOU really ok?  This series of on-air counseling sessions with some of the most influential teachers and leaders in the Church, is leading up to the one-year anniversary of my book, Are You Really OK?, challenging each and every one of us to get real about how we’re really doing. It takes courageous people to openly and publicly talk about their journey with mental and emotional health, but these are the exact conversations that begin taking down the stigma, paving the way for us to truly get real about how we’re doing as Christians. We’re opening this series by re-airing episodes from Season 1, beginning with one of my favorite leaders….Pastor JP Pokluda. One thing that really sticks out to me about JP is his blunt and point-blank approach to life. For him, nothing is off limits to talk about. And nothing to dark for Jesus to shine his light. And this conversation is no different. I know this on-air session with him will challenge you. Be sure to listen to the end where I give a summary of our talk, as well as ways you can apply it to your own journey of getting healthy from the inside out and asking — Are YOU really OK? Culture Clash: Couples Therapy with Carlos and Ashley

This week we’re wrapping up a series we started in February called Couples Therapy! I’ve invited four courageous couples to join me on the podcast for on-air counseling sessions. We’re going behind the curtain of marriage, and giving you a sneak peek of all the things married couples are actually going through behind the scenes. Because marriage takes work, and it’s important to understand that — but it’s also important to have the tools you need to do that work, and the hope you need to see that it’s always worth it in the end. Today’s couple is Carlos and Ashley. After a lighting fast dating and engagement, they’re finding themselves stuck in the area of  expectations and norms in marriage. They come from very different cultural backgrounds, and now their differences are coming to a head. Carlos comes to marriage with certain expectations of gender roles in marriage, and Ashley comes from the exact opposite perspective. Will they be able to get on the same page, even with their different views? How does their past, childhood, and culture impact what they think and believe about marriage? How do you sort through what’s right and what’s wrong? What does it look like to create a NEW culture in their marriage, rather than try to replicate the old? Today we unpack all of that!!! If you’ve ever struggled with difference in your expectations or cultural norms, you’ll want to tune into this couple’s therapy session.  And friends — this series has been such a huge hit! My podcast was in the top 100 of ALL religion and spirituality podcasts last week, so thank you for listening, sharing, and leaving your review because it helps get the word out about this important series. Triggers Are Everywhere: Couples Therapy with Ben and Kelsey (Part 3)

We’re in the middle a series through the month of February called Couples Therapy! I’ve invited four courageous couples to join me on the podcast for an on-air counseling session. Today’s couple, Ben and Kelsey, have been married for almost 9 years. They’re finding themselves stuck in the area of sexual intimacy, but could there be more going on underneath the surface? In our counseling sessions, Kelsey has revealed that she has a past history of abuse from childhood. She also shared that she’s had two emotional affairs that have really set them back in their marriage. Today we unpack the concept of triggers — in the fact that Ben identifies both of them to be “trigger-avoidant” people. We talk through a new way to look at triggers, that not only helped them but I believe it will challenge you as well. I know many of you will relate to this couple, and the fact that sometimes what’s going on in TODAY is really a reflection of hurts that happened in the PAST that haven’t been fully dealt with. We have to get to the roots if we want true freedom. So tune into this final part of my sessions with Ben and Kelsey. And friends — this series has been such a huge hit so far. My podcast was in the top 100 of ALL religion and spirituality podcasts last week, so thank you for listening, sharing, and leaving your review because it helps get the word out about this important series. Today’s couple, Eric and Ashley, have been married for almost 2 years. But they’re both feeling like something is blocking their intimacy. As we dove into their situation, Eric identified that he feels like his sexual past is getting in the way of their ability to connect both emotionally and physically in the present. He has a significant sexual history, and when he became a Christian he thought his sexual past was gone for good…until it started coming back up in his new marriage. He’s haunted by his sexual past, and in need of hope to break free.
