#078 - Val Whiting on playing in the early days of the WNBA, CyberBullying & Confidence
Val Whiting is a former collegiate and professional basketball player. She played center for the Stanford Cardinal women's basketball during her four years of pre-med study at Stanford and went on to be part of the ABL and then the WNBA during the early years of the league. Over the past year she has built an incredible following on TikTok through uplifting, highlighting, and supporting female athletes, which came with a downside of cyber bullying which she discusses on the podcast. Val also provides mental coaching to female ballers by helping eliminate their doubt and increase their confidence so they can crush it on and off the court.
In this podcast we talk about Val's cyber bullying experience, her journey in high school & college, what she struggled with mentally during her time in the WNBA, tips to build confidence for athletes, and how parents can best support their athletic children without it turning toxic.

José's family came to the US as hard working immigrants with little money and even less understanding of it. Through grit and sacrifice, José earned a baseball scholarship and an education in finance. After school he entered the wealth management world, and then decided to do his own thing with the hopes of impacting the millennial generation on finance and wealth building. #074 - 2 X Paralympic Champ Brenna Huckaby on the gold medal mindset, super mom powers & women in sport
Brenna Huckaby is a 2 X Paralympic champ in the sport of snowboarding and is gunning for more gold in 2022! She made her international debut in the sport at age 19, took the next season off to have a baby, then at just 22, made her Paralympic debut (and won).
Brenna's first sport love was gymnastics. Then at 14 years old, she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer which resulted in the amputation of her right leg above the knee. After having to give up gymnastics, she found snowboarding, and the rest is history as they say!
In this episode Brenna shares her story, talks about internalized misogyny and ableism, women in sport, and building a gold medal mindset (including the mindset shift that allowed her to go from a technical error to winning the race). She also talks about her training, what it's like competing after having a child, and why she uses social media to advocate and make an impact on the causes she believes in.
