Ep #06 - “You could have died” my Brutally HONEST BRAIN INJURY Story

In December 2013 after an MRI scan showed a scar on my brain from a bleed that occurred after a seizure on the rugby training field in August 2013, the neurologist made it very clear that I had to retire from professional rugby as I was suffering with Post Concussive Syndrome (PCS), a cumulative build up was making me more susceptible to getting concussed, knocked out and in the worst case scenario one more significant knock could kill me. I’ve never been totally honest about what happened to me over a series of concussion in a previous interviews because I was scared what people would think. But I know by playing down my injuries and how it was treated is not serving or helping those in similar situations. So I’ve been 100% brutally honest in this podcast about my head injury history in a hope that it will help others make better more informed decisions about their own injuries. I also hope people watching and listening understand why I feel I need to be honest about this situation. Thank you already for your support 🙏🏻 The following episode in this podcast series on ‘Concussions & Breathing’ will conclude with assessments and breathing exercises you can do to help create the conditions your brain to recover. If you are suffering or work with clients / patients that have brain injuries and concussions I’d love to help more so please email me for more information info@probreathwork.com I will be presenting a seminar on all the research, the assessments and exercise protocols as part of my work on Concussions & Breathing. This will be ideal for anyone suffering with concussions and / or brain injuries or if you are a therapist of doctor with clients suffering. If you'd like to get in touch to discuss concussions and breathing further with me i'd love to hear from you. You can email me at david.jackson@oxygenadvantage.com

Ep #04 - BRAIN INJURY Recovery: Concussion & BREATHING - 60 Years of Research

The effects of CONCUSSION and BRAIN INJURY on our BREATHING has been know for at least 60 years. Yet its been overlooked for too long, its not part of rehabilitation of the brain. But I'm an example that the brain can heal when we restore our breathing patterns, improve cerebral blood flow and oxygen supple to the brain.  Breathing is something that could be part of not just the recovery process to improve cerebral blood flow but also a indicator of a brains recovery. It's brain injury awareness month so I'd love your help in sharing this information. So please do LIKE, SHARE & RATE / REVIEW the podcast on whichever platform you use - thank you!  3 keys areas in this podcast we address in this first part of a series I'll be covering on 'Concussions & Breathing' are; Research dates back to 1960's It takes just 3 concussions in a lifetime for severe cognitive decline Being symptoms free is not a reliable indicator of a brain's recovery Research papers & studies referenced; Froman, C. Ep #01 - Increase Repeat Sprint-Ability by 10X with Breath-Holding

Can you improve anaerobic repeat sprint ability by a factor of 10 with a simple breath-holding technique? A study published in 2018 by Woorons et al suggest that something as simple has holding the breath during anaerobic sprint training can improve performance by over 10 times compared to normal breathing with the same training. In this podcast we take a look at the study from the European Journal of Sport Science, help you understand what the details from the study, what caused such profound adaptation and then look at the practical application of the results. I share with you my own experimentations with the technique and how I've been using it successfully with professional athletes I work with, so that you can see the same improvements in your own training. * Woorons et al (2018).
