If you wonder why you're not happy all the time, it's just because you have thoughts of the past and future still hanging around in the unconscious mind that flitter and flutter up to the surface during the day. What am I going to have to eat for lunch? What will I have for dinner? Is it going to rain today? Is it going to be a sunny day? Will I be able to go out and take a walk? Listen, all these thoughts are of the past and future. These are not Ramana Maharshi's thoughts. These are not Jesus Christ's thoughts, and these are not Paramahansa Yogananda's thoughts. These are thoughts of the ego of linear time. And yet, we have to allow Jesus and the Holy Spirit to use the symbols of time to undo the belief in linear time. Jesus and the Holy Spirit don't try to hurl you into eternity. They don't hurl you screamingly into the light. They actually come and massage your mind with beautiful movies like today. Do you think you know? And he goes on to say, "An idol is for more of something. It does not matter, more of what." So MORE is the concept, is the idol. So when you want more of anything, even an event or an experience or more of an object or more of an image, it doesn't really matter MORE of what, you are not in the moment. The ego is generating people, and characters that aren't really there. Most people are freaked out by schizophrenia because of the imaginary characters that aren't really there but LISTEN, we're all dealing with this every day. There are 7 billion imaginary characters that have been generated by the ego, just on planet Earth alone, running around in the ego-mind. They're all just generations of beliefs and thoughts that the ego made up. "Jesus says in the Course, 'The past is over, it can touch you not.' And then he says, 'All of the past is gone, and only its beauty and loveliness has been saved for you.' So instead of over and gone he's saying, 'Only its beauty and loveliness has been saved for you.' There's something wonderful about that idea, that only the beauty and loveliness from the past has been saved for you. Because if the world is just form and the Holy Spirit can use form—the Holy Spirit can use everything that the ego made, the ego made the form, the Holy Spirit can use it. That must mean that there's a way where I can look upon it with no attraction and no avoidance, with no feeling of being limited and no feeling of 'Oo la la, I'm so glad I've got this thing or that thing.' Movie "GROUNDHOG DAY" - Commentary by David Hoffmeister - Weekly Online Movie Workshop. Imagine living your life so spontaneously. So serendipitously. So, in the moment that you don't activate the past, organize the present or plan the future. Jesus says in the course ... that past, present, and future are not continuous unless you attempt to force continuity on them, which is the opposite of what he is asking us to do. He's saying, No, you need to let go of forcing anything. You need to relax and accept the moment as it is and let go of your past regrets and grievances and criticisms and judgments and let go of your future worries and anxieties because you were never created to be a time being. You are an Eternal Being, still a perfect child of God. You've just forgotten it. And he's saying don't blame your body, don't go back into your mind and look at all the things you did wrong. That's not going to get you anywhere because it was all part of a misperception based on not being connected to the Holy Spirit, which is the correction. You see, the miracle is a choice. And in that choice, all mistakes are corrected. The miracle corrects retroactively and progressively. All the past mistakes you believe you made as a body are corrected in the miracle instantaneously, and even the future mistakes you're afraid you're gonna make are handled too. So powerful is the miracle that the light in the mind corrects retroactively and progressively. That is an invitation to the present moment. Closing Session - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister and Frances Xu - September 2021The Holy Spirit is all about giving and extending, and the ego is all about getting and controlling. The ego doesn't mind the concept of giving as long as it can 'tack on' to the getting. I'll give this to you if you let me get this back in return. Jesus says that's not really giving at all. God didn't create us as pure spirit and say, "...and by the way, here are my demands, and here are the conditions of what you have to give me back. God just radiated pure light and joy and spirit, total communion simply because God is that way. But in terms of this world, which is a world of ego projection, reciprocity is the key principle. Everything in the ego's world is reciprocal. And Jesus tells us right out in the course that we have to undo the belief in reciprocity. So, whether we're talking about being a minister, or whether we're talking about being a meditation teacher, or we're talking about just being happy, happiness will come from giving and not from the getting mechanism of the ego. No one who is in the getting mode will ever find lasting happiness. Movie Workshop "The Truman Show" - Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with David Hoffmeister - September 2021The Truman Show is a fantastic awakening movie about undoing time and space and having the courage to follow the call of the heart. The world is a show produced and directed by the ego. It employs many actors, uses many sets and time loops. The show depends on sales, labeling, and product placement to sustain itself. The ego has made sure that the show is aimed at drama, repetitions, distractions, pretense, and ultimately resorts to fear in order to perpetuate itself otherwise the mind will not continue to believe its reality. Opening Session of the Tabula Rasa Online Retreat with Frances Xu and David Hoffmeister - September 2021Davids's introduction to the session: "To live in a Tabula Rasa frame of mind is really a very practical way of living. I think that's the most practical way of living. So what we're calling Tabula Rasa or having a blank slate, is really what Jesus refers to in the Course of Miracles' Workbook, where he says, ... allow everything that the ego has written on the world, to be removed and then, when you have a clean, open space, the Holy Spirit will come and give you the meaning of forgiveness and he will give you the gaze, to look upon the false as false, from a place of confidence and assuredness and certainty and laughter and joy and happiness and that's the view we want. So really the spiritual journey is opening to the Holy Spirit's perspective. Opening to another way of looking at the world in which, Jesus tells us, this world was made in hatred, but you can see it through a loving gaze and this is the gaze of the Holy Spirit, the happy dream, or the real world as Jesus calls it.
