EP122: You Know How To Eat
What if we’re designed with the ability to eat without needing to think much about it? And what if we never, ever lose this ability…we just think we’ve lost it? I know it can look like we have all the evidence in the world to prove that we don’t know how to eat. We overeat. We restrict. We can’t trust ourselves. We can’t hear our hunger the way we used to. And still, you know how to eat. When it’s difficult or confusing or complicated, you’re thinking over your innate design. In this episode, I’ll share how I gradually moved from thinking about how to eat all the time, to letting my innate ability to eat without much thought do the job it’s always been ready to do. EP121: Gina’s Change Story: Caretaking and Meeting Your Elderly Parents for the First Time
Gina has been the primary caregiver for her father and step-mother, during a pandemic, no less. To make matters worse, her husband has had some recent health challenges and she’s been caring for him as well. As many of you know firsthand, caretaking can be a huge job. She’s felt the enormity and exhaustion and uncertainty of it all many times. She’s also felt a lot of other things. Like peace. Acceptance. Gratitude. And she’s come to meet her dad and stepmom for the first time after spending her entire life with them. She used to think they were negative and she experienced them that way. But now, when she meets them in real time without her story in tow, she often has a very different experience of them. She even has a different experience of their negativity Please enjoy this amazing conversation with Gina! EP120: Political Candidates and Outcomes Can’t Affect Your Wellbeing
Politicians do not determine our overall level of wellbeing. Policies and practices, while very important in a macro sense, do not determine what we feel in a micro sense. In this episode, we’ll explore that macro-micro distinction. When we look out to the macro and think it affects the micro, we suffer. That suffering is our wake up call, showing us what our mind is doing. I’ll share how I’ve done this many times around sharing this New Paradigm with the world. When I look at the macro, it looks hard and hopeless and I share less. But when I look to what is right in front of me–or even right within me–I am much more able to impact things at a macro level. EP119: Sarah’s Change Story: From fifteen years of anorexia to complete health, contentment, and a life supporting others
Sarah’s life today is unrecognizable from how it once was.She spent 15 years in and out of hospital, afraid to eat, often on a feeding tube, with more than one suicide attempt. She didn’t think she could cope with life. She didn’t want to grow up, so she kept herself (literally) tiny and physically dependent. Her mind equated love with weight loss and control. But one of Sarah’s counselors saw her health and it allowed Sarah to see it as well. From there, everything began to reverse.Today, Sarah is healthy and thriving. She is a counselor and Change Coach herself, seeing the health in the people she works with. She is 100% free of anorexia, something people said would never happen. Please enjoy Sarah’s incredible change story. And if you’re looking for an amazing, loving coach who will see your health, you can find Sarah here: https://www.wellofbeing.co.uk/ The post EP119: Sarah’s Change Story: From fifteen years of anorexia to complete health, contentment, and a life supporting others appeared first on Dr. Amy Johnson.

EP118: What the Ratio 50:11,000,000 Can Show You About What You Think and Feel
Humans are said to process 11 Million bits of information per second. Do you know how much we’re aware of? How many bit make it to conscious awareness? 50.Isn’t that an incredible ratio?! How do you suppose the 50 out of 11,000,000 bits are chosen? Which 50 come to life in a way we can see and recognize? Given that our brain is all about efficiency and safety, I bet 50 familiar bits have an edge over the others. I bet 50 bits that have been showered with emotion and attention, or that appear threatening, have an advantage. What does this mean for how seriously we take ourselves and our evaluations of the world?Listen in to see what comes up for you. But remember that whatever you hear in this episode, it’s definitely not the full story. EP116: Suffering for Others
People are suffering and we’re bombarded with reminders and images of their struggles. Which, in turn, leads us to suffer for them.In some ways, it’s a beautiful, compassionate illustration of our oneness that we suffer for complete strangers. We celebrate with them too. We are them and they are us and we deeply know it. But there’s an interesting way in which our suffering for others can sometimes be even worse than their suffering. When we suffer for others, our mind discounts all that we all have working on our behalf. Our mind only lets us feel our made up version of their suffering, not the resources they have at their disposal, working through them. In this episode I share some really beautiful stories of the peace, resourcefulness, and even joy that often break through our suffering. These are so easy to forget when we’re suffering for others. EP115: Jacqui’s Change Story: Realizing Your Worth Beyond Actions and Roles
Jacqui recently had what she calls a shattering. There was B.S., life Before the Shattering (which she says is aptly named) and there is life now, after the shattering. Before the shattering Jacqui was far less aware of her worth. She believed that her worth came from the roles she took on. Her value was largely in what she did for other people and how she related to them. Before the shattering, she didn’t know that her strengths, like intuition, were things to be appreciated. She ignored what she wanted and did what felt right for everyone else. She did a lot of what she “should” do.After the shattering, things are different. She sees her value beyond her roles and labels now, and she’s living life on her terms, guided by intuition. After the shattering, she says she feels like she’s ten years old again.Enjoy Jacqui’s story! EP113: Dismantling False Beliefs to End Addiction with John Dicey, CEO of Allen Carr’s Easyway Method
I was ridiculously excited to talk with John Dicey, CEO of Allen Carr’s Easyway Method. Allen Carr’s Easyway books have sold over 14 Million copies worldwide. Fourteen MILLION. They’ve applied their method to smoking, drinking, overeating, and a growing handful of other issues. The essence of their approach is so much in line with the essence of everything I share here and in The Little School of Big Change around where our experience comes from. John says that addiction is 99% mental and 1% physical. We think we’re addicted more than we are. And we think we’re addicted because of our inaccurate beliefs about what our substance of choice does for us and our misunderstandings about how addiction works. We have so much more health and resilience than any of us can ever imagine. When we see through the conditioned beliefs, we find it waiting there for us. I hope you enjoy this conversation with John Dicey! ****The Little School of Big Change Fall 2020 course begins in just TWO WEEKS! We are ALL navigating huge change right now, and there’s no better, easier, more natural way to do that than to see that who-we-are is designed for change. It’s only our mind that has a hard time with it.So whether you’ve turned to old habits and coping mechanisms during this time, or the uncertainty is getting to you, or the social isolation or maybe anxiety are worse than they need to be, please consider spending this time in an incredible, loving community that can help you see a much better way.If you pre-enroll before the September 28th course begins, you are guaranteed a seat and you save $47. EP112: Fearless in the Face of Health Uncertainty with Clare Assante
Clare has gone from living with quite a bit of anxiety, to being mostly free of it. She’s gone from worrying about everything, to being diagnosed with an eye condition that could possibly lead to blindness at some point, and facing that with a kind of gratitude, ease, and grace that is quite remarkable. She’s now a coach, sharing what she’s seen with others. (She’s also an Olympic level synchronized swimmer, which I just learned in this episode!)I have been looking forward to having Clare on the podcast for a long time because I’ve been so inspired by how she’s been navigating the change and uncertainty of her health issues. I know she will be a huge inspiration to you as well! You can see more about Clare here: https://blindsidedbythought.com/ She’s an excellent coach if you’re looking for one! ****The Little School of Big Change Fall 2020 course begins in just THREE WEEKS!
