Wise Traditions
Weston A. Price Foundation w/ Hilda Labrada Gore
The Weston A. Price Foundation's Wise Traditions podcast is for those who seek optimal health based on traditional wisdom. We believe that vibrant health cannot be cultivated in a lab, engineered through modern technology or found through "improving" nature. On the contrary, "life in all its fullness is mother nature obeyed," as Dr. Weston Price put it. We can learn from healthy societies of the past how to live healthier lives now.
The Foundation's podcast is an invitation to follow traditional food and health ways to live our best lives. Our host and producer, Hilda Labrada Gore, interviews experts on a wide variety of topics—ranging from nutrient-dense foods to improving mental health to homesteading to detoxing to healing emotional trauma to the power of sunshine and mitigating EMFs. Every episode offers the listener a way to heal, grow and live a more vibrant and happy life.

418: Is Small Farming Sustainable?
In 2022, Vermont had 130 organic farms. Just one year later, there are only 60, with another 30 expected to go out of business in the next 12 months. How can we turn things around? And is small farming actually sustainable? Cynthia and Rich Larson of Larson Farm in Vermont are grass dairy farmers that are working on the sustainability of their own farm and of those around them, too. They know that sustainability has to do with more than just what works for the land. It must also be valuable for the community and economically sustainable for the farmer. This is one reason they have joined hands with a local Land Care Community of 17 grass-based dairies in Vermont. They are a group that wants to leave the land in better shape than when they found it. They are working to improve the ecosystem, protect the watershed, reduce pollution and regenerate the soil. They use modern equipment and strategies for facing farming challenges. Rich and Cynthia today tell their story about that partnership, how and why they transitioned from commercial farming to organic, and why they invite others to get into farming, too. 417: Where Physical, Emotional, And Mental Health Meet
Depression. Arrhythmia. Stress. Emotional burdens. How can we address our complex health conditions? And how is the physical related to the mental and emotional components of wellbeing? And is it best to address issues with conventional or unconventional protocols? Anette Ruiz is a holistic health coach and communications specialist. Alberto is a certified permaculturist and talk show host. Today, they tell their story of facing seemingly insurmountable health crises. Anette had moderate-to-severe depression; Alberto, a heart condition. Their island got hit by Hurricane Maria, and their stress levels went through the roof. They discuss today how they faced these experiences and what they learned through them--particularly how they have incorporated tools for holistic living that address the physical, mental, and emotional health of the body. Among other topics, they cover how to recognize the symptoms of depression, the power of gratitude, and why they will not use a microwave oven. P.S. We're so glad to have Anette and Alberto tell their story. We want you to get to know them, in part because they will soon be the new hosts of our Spanish "sister" podcast: Tradiciones Sabias! 414: More Dangerous Than A Snakebite
What could possibly be more dangerous to your health and life than a rattlesnake bite? Vaccinations. Our guest, Curtis Cost, the author of "Vaccines are Dangerous," explains why shots have more serious consequences than many may have initially realized. Curtis describes problems, beyond "side effects," that can arise not only from the covid-19 shot, but from all shots. Conditions like autoimmune dysfunction, asthma, allergies, and other debilitating issues that result from injections are often not perceived as triggered by vaccines. Curtis connects the dots. He also goes over why he's especially passionate about getting the message out about the inherent dangers of these shots to the African American community. 412: Viruses Broken Down
For most of our lives, we've been taught that viruses make us sick. But there is important evidence that has been overlooked by both virologists and the public. Today, Alec Zeck, the Executive Director and Founder of the Way Forward, breaks down viruses. He reviews the history of virology, the assumptions behind the science, and explains where we've gone wrong in our understanding of what causes ill health. His conclusions, based on his extensive research, paint a very different picture of the "pandemic" of recent years and offer insights for the days ahead. This is an episode that may challenge what many of us thought we knew about viruses. Visit Alec's website: The Way Forward Become a member of the Weston A. 411: Urine Therapy Explained
What if urine isn't a waste product? Did you know that, for centuries, it was considered a "golden elixir" for healing? Amandha Vollmer today describes the history and practice of urine therapy and how it has been used as a remedy over the centuries for resolving diseases, blood clots, infections, and skin issues. Urine, we now know, actually contains stem cells---undifferentiated cells that promote healing and regeneration. Amandha addresses why it's worth getting over the "ick" factor to apply this beneficial therapy, topically and internally. 410: Eat Like Your Health Depends On It
What would it look like to eat as if our health depended on it? What would we need to change? Steve Campbell, a cattle consultant running Tailor Made Cattle, had an accident that turned his whole world upside down. He realized that to heal properly, he needed to change his diet, and this led him to look at the provenance of his food and the health of the soil. What he has learned along the way is that what works for farmers and cattle ranchers works for human beings too: the power of epigenetics (lifestyle and dietary changes to support health), how to live "organic by design" (as opposed to by default), and how to foster an environment (on the land and in the body) that supports diversity, good health, and life. 409: Off Grid in Brazil
What would it be like to live in the Brazilian Amazon for over 20 years, off grid, 18 hours away from any hospital, hardly speaking the language, while simultaneously running a cattle ranch? John Carter of Aliança Da Terra today describes the many lessons he and his wife gleaned from their time there. From the health and happiness he observed among his neighbors, the Kamayurá Indian, to the negative influence of the government and corporations that he saw unfold over the years. Visit his website: aliancadaterra.org for more information on his team's efforts to preserve the land, while also cultivating it.
