298: Brooke Stratton (OLY) Dual Olympic Long Jump Finalist, NR Holder, 4x AUS Champ
Brooke Stratton commenced her little athletics career at the age of five, winning the Under 9 Years Victorian State Title before commencing on to Junior World Championships and a successful Junior worlds career before entering the senior ranks. In Tokyo 2021, Brooke was an Olympic finalist finishing 7th place with a jump of 6.83m where Brooke later commented that she could walk away with her head held high knowing that she gave it her all. During the lead up to Tokyo, Brooke was dealing with a troublesome knee injury and in the prior years, Brooke had struggled with her health with regards to a diagnosis around Celiac disease and Hashimotos. This is a great tale of overcoming and persevering, in this episode Brooke recounts how she prepared for Tokyo knowing that she was less than her best in the pursuit of one's physical best performance. Dr Tim Gabbett has over 25 years experience working as an Applied Sport Scientist with athletes and coaches from around the world. Dr Tim Gabbett's experience is multidisciplinary, but it has one central theme, and that is high performance. Tim has consulted to world leading sporting organisations and associations including the NBA, Australian Rugby League, AFL and the English Premier League. Dr Tim Gabbett holds a PhD in Human Physiology and completed a second PhD in Applied Sport Science. Tim has published over 250 peer reviewed articles and presented over 400 national and international conferences. In a recent study of 8 million scientists published in PLOS Biology, Tim was named in the top 25 most impactful sports scientists of all time. Professor Beck is an Exercise Physiologist, world renowned and revered Bone Researcher, Musculoskeletal Anatomist and self-confessed scientific myth-buster. Belinda is the Pioneer and Founder of both "The Bone Clinic" and the award winning "Onero Program and Exercise Program for Osteoporosis". Alistair Brownlee is the Dual Olympic Games Champion (2012 and 2016 Olympic Games) becoming the first Triathlete in history to have defended their title. His younger brother Jonny secured the bronze in London making history as the first brothers in Olympic history for a podium in an individual sport since 1908. Jonny’s silver in 2016 made history again for the brothers becoming the first British brothers to ever finish first and second in an individual event at an Olympic Games. Alistair is the two-time World Series Triathlon Champion, 4X European Champion and 2014 Commonwealth Games Champion.
