Vincent Luis is the current World Triathlon Series Champion for 2019, is also the reigning Super League Triathlon Series Champion.  In 2018 Vincent was second in the World Championship rankings for the world triathlon series and in both 2017 and 2018 Vincent took victory in the series grand finals. He’s an athlete that really does know how to execute under pressure. Vincent started his professional triathlon career in 2005 after shifting over from a very promising Junior swimming career. But as you’ll hear on this episode, Vincent was crowned World Junior Series Triathlon Champion in 2008 and eleven long years later Vincent was crowned World Open Triathlon Champion recently in Lausanne, Switzerland. Sara Hall has had a long and lustrous career including time spent on the track with 1500m, 3000m running, road racing with multiple wins including the 2017 and 2018 of the Gold Coast Marathon’s Half Marathon race clocking at 1:09:27 in 2018 to set the current course record. Sara has also been a team member for USA for the World Cross Country Championships in 2006 and 2015 and was the 2012 American Cross Country Champion. During this  conversation Sara outlines her 3 Top Tips for Marathoners, how to minimise the risks leading up to a marathon with regards to injury and how a breakthrough can be on the other side of frustration. Dr Shona Halson is an Associate Professor at the School of Behavioural and Health Sciences, Australian Catholic University. Previously, Shona was a Senior Physiologist at the Australian Institute of Sport for 15 years. Shona has a PhD in Exercise Physiology and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications in the areas of sleep, recovery, fatigue and travel. Shona is an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance and Shona was selected as the Director of the Australian Olympic Committees Recovery Centre for the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. 189: Interest Edition: Tommy & Eoin Hughes: Guinness World Record Father & Son Fastest Combined Marathon (Tommy 59yrs 2:27:52, Eoin 33yrs 2:31:30)

This is an incredible story of Irish runners, father and son, Tommy and Eoin Hughes. This story is quite unique because Tommy and Eoin recently set a Guinness World Record of the combined time for a father and son crossing a marathon finish line. This was done at the 2019 Frankfurt Marathon  just several weeks ago where, Tommy, 59 years of age set a World Age record for running a staggering 2:27:52 and Eoin who has just been in the sport of running for 3 years clocked an incredible 2:31:30 on his Marathon debut. The combined time 4:59:22. And this is the story of Tommy Hughes, a 1992 Irish Olympian in the Marathon, a former Melbourne Australia Marathon winner and Multi Marathon winner who has been a lifelong runner. Tom Evans, a former British Army Captain, made an incredible debut on the Ultra Trail Running scene when he came 3rd in 2017 in the gruelling 251km Desert Ultra Marathon: des Sables. There’s a great story behind this elite performance and debut which includes a bet with some of his former military mates in a pub. This third place finish was the best result of any European in the history of the Iconic Race. Tom astounded once again in 2018, when he won the 101km CCC race at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. And from there Tom has gone from success to success. Tom made his debut in his first 100mile race in the other iconic event, The Western States in 2019. Christie Aschwanden is the Lead Writer for Science at 538 and a Health Columnist for the Washington Post. 186: Featured Performer: Jack Rayner, INEOS 159 Challenge pacemaker + Multi Half Marathon Champion

23 year old Jack Rayner was one of the 41 pace runners that played the important role in Eliud Kipchoge’s historic 1:59:40.2 marathon run in Vienna on the 12th October.  At the time of recording Jack has tasted success in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, The Sunshine Coast Half Marathon and the Cardiff Half Marathon. Jack’s current PB across this distance is 1:01:01 and in the London 2019 marathon Jack debuted with an impressive 2:11:06 placing 14th and running Athletics Australia qualifying time for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
