Brew's Cafe Episode 13- Bosco Michne

Brew's Cafe- Episode 12 Erik Schwab
Well, I wasn't quite expecting this. Erik Schwab, aka @saltyvisionz, teaches surfing at Ditch and Earth Science at Springs School. So I figured we'd talk about the science of waves and beaches and other fluffy subjects. Well, we did. A little. But we spent a lot more time on the social sciences, mainly current events and how we digest our information, how we form our opinions and how we express them to the world. And, well, we ended up down some fairly deep rabbit holes that neither of us had anticipated: climate change, obviously, but politics? and racism? and the internet? Yeah, we go there. I value the honesty that Erik brings to every conversation, but I was amazed at how much honesty and exploration he brought out in me. For a second I wondered who was interviewing who(m- I was an English major as you'll hear).

Brew's Cafe- Episode 11 Anne Chaisson
What was the first movie that made you cry? Do you remember? This is a great podcast question to ask Anne Chaisson, Executive Director of the Hamptons International Film Festival. Too bad she asked me first! But that's just how it goes when an amateur podcaster sits down with a long time dear friend and just starts talking about movies (it's ok to call them movies, or films, or even what Anne calls them). We cover a lot of ground here, sharing memories and what makes "the movies" so special to so many of us. Another great thing about doing a podcast with such a professional "show business" personality? We did it all in one take!!

Brew's Cafe- Episode 10 Evelyn O'Doherty
It's not every day I get a mythological being on the podcast, but in this episode, I get to sit down with a real live Selkie (part seal, part human, all treasure) and I can assure you that they do exist. Evelyn O'Doherty is widely known as the kid you just can't get out of the water: whether she's surfing, paddle surfing, or just paddling around, very few days go by where she doesn't get in (look for her on a foil near you in the coming days!). She's also the editor, contributor, owner and "chief bottle washer" at the beautiful "Standup Journal" publication both online and in gorgeous print. I know Evelyn as the literal kid you can't get out of the water as we've actually known each other for most of our lives, having both grown up in Amagansett summers. In the episode, she shares her stories of leaving the classroom behind but remaining a teacher, making the transition from surfing to paddle surfing and back, her first paddle race (it was spontaneous and she lost) and lots of other fascinating experiences.

Brew's Cafe- Episode 8 Christina DeSanti
First of all, donuts. Because donuts, that's why. Here's the story about the donuts: how they started, how they're made, where you can get them now and why they go with everything. But don't think Christina DeSanti stops there. In this episode we go full bore into everything worth discussing in East Hampton: housing, mental health, education, transportation, politics (yes, politics!) and plenty of other worthwhile topics. Settle down, grab a few donuts and enjoy this one. I know I sure did!

Brew's Cafe- Episode 5 Brian Schopfer
Grain Surfboards is not your typical surf shop, and Brian Schopfer is not your typical surf shop owner. To begin with, his boards are made of wood. And you have to build them yourself. Using only hand tools. And they're expensive. And people are lining up to do it. Join me as Brian and I chat about surf culture, surf cliques, skiing vs snowboarding, the joy of building something by hand and sailing through a hurricane.

Brew's Cafe- Episode 4 Ryan Struble
For 30 days in September and October, Ryan completed a new adventure challenge each day. Challenges included things like running lighthouse to lighthouse, taking a jujitsu class, and participating in just about every unique type of workout available locally. But they also included things like skydiving, leaping off a tall building and firing a machine gun. Join us on the podcast to hear how he came up with the idea, what motivated him along the way, and what he has in store next (hint: it takes place on the first Sunday in November in New York City).
