Dr. Mike T Nelson, a research enthusiast in metabolic flexibility and heart rate variability, dives into the innovative philosophies behind his co-authored book, "Triphasic 2." He discusses how Triphasic Training evolves with cutting-edge research, focusing on eccentric, isometric, and concentric lifting phases. Mike shares intriguing training methods like the 'GOAT drill' and the 'super max method,' emphasizing athletic performance improvements. He also explores the significance of aerobic fitness and the importance of adaptability in training methods for athletes.

Triphasic Movement
All movements have eccentric, isometric, and concentric phases.
Elite athletes perform these phases faster, especially eccentric and isometric.
question_answer ANECDOTE
Triphasic Origins
Cal Dietz noticed athletes with similar 1RMs had different athletic performance.
He used force plates to analyze movement phases, discovering differences in eccentric and isometric speeds.

In 'The Infinite Game', Simon Sinek distinguishes between finite and infinite games. Finite games have known players, fixed rules, and a clear endpoint, whereas infinite games, like business and life, have no defined endpoint and are played to continue the game rather than to win. Sinek argues that leaders who adopt an infinite mindset, focusing on a 'Just Cause', building 'Trusting Teams', having 'Worthy Rivals', practicing 'Existential Flexibility', and showing the 'Courage to Lead', will build stronger, more innovative, and resilient organizations. The book uses real-world examples to illustrate the benefits of an infinite mindset and the pitfalls of a finite mindset in business and leadership[1][2][5].

Cal Dietz
In this episode of the CCU podcast, I sit down with Dr. Mike T Nelson, Owner & "Talent" of Extreme Human Performance to dive into his new book “Triphasic 2” co-written with Cal Dietz. We go in hard on the philosophies espoused within the Triphasic system and how it’s evolved over time using the most cutting edge research.
Mike T. Nelson, PhD, MSME, CSCS, CISSN, is a research fanatic who specializes in metabolic flexibility and heart rate variability, as well as an online trainer, adjunct professor, Associate Professor at the Carrick Institute, presenter, creator of the Flex Diet Cert, kiteboarder, and (somewhat incongruous) heavy-metal enthusiast. He has a PhD in Exercise Physiology, and a MS in Mechanical Engineering (biomechanics). The techniques he's developed, and the results Mike gets for his clients have been featured in international magazines, in scientific publications, and on websites across the globe. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, lifting odd objects, reading research, and kiteboarding as much as possible.
We discuss: Why rewrite Triphasic Training? What is Triphasic Training? The rationale behind the order of training Does breaking up the movement into parts serve the beginner lifter within this advanced protocol? The evolution of the new system over time Turn on, train, transfer The GOAT drill Super Max method for overload Compressing the methods for lower level athletes Identifying the rate limiter How to periodize for the athlete using test/ retest The importance of the aerobic system and being fit Is the interference effect real? Reflexive performance reset Transferring the training to the field of play Did this book change the way you train? Using testing within the training Managing ego in education and evolution
