In *Young Forever*, Dr. Mark Hyman challenges readers to reimagine their biology, health, and the process of aging. The book explores the biological hallmarks of aging, their causes, and their consequences, and provides simple dietary, lifestyle, and emerging longevity strategies to overcome them. It covers topics such as turning on longevity switches, reducing inflammation, supporting the immune system, exercising, sleeping, and de-stressing for healthy aging, and features Dr. Hyman's Pegan Diet. The book aims to help readers increase their health span, prevent and reverse diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and dementia, and live a longer, healthier life.
This book, based on decades of research and practical application, provides an individualized diet-and-health plan based on blood type. It explains how blood type reflects internal chemistry, influencing susceptibility to illness, optimal foods, and effective stress management. The book includes recommendations on foods, spices, teas, condiments, vitamins, supplements, medications, and exercise tailored to each blood type. It also features a 10-day jump-start plan and strategies for weight loss, stress management, and slowing down the aging process.
Autoimmune disease is explored as a complex and rising health challenge driven largely by lifestyle and environmental factors rather than genetics alone. Conventional treatments often rely on immune-suppressing medications that manage symptoms but fail to address underlying causes like gut dysfunction, chronic infections, toxins, and stress. A functional medicine approach instead emphasizes identifying and treating these root causes—such as gluten sensitivity, dysbiosis, and nutrient deficiencies—through personalized diagnostics and anti-inflammatory diets. Case studies illustrate dramatic improvements in patients' symptoms and lab results when switching from conventional to root-cause-based care. Ultimately, this integrative model empowers individuals to reclaim health by addressing what triggers immune system dysfunction in the first place.
In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Sunjya Schweig, Dr. Cindy Geyer, and Dr. Todd LePine the root cause approach to healing autoimmune conditions.
