UK startups at risk of asset theft by state actors
UK startups are facing an increasing risk of state actors attempting to steal their assets. An example of this was a Scottish renewable manufacturer that had a delegation from China visit their premises, only to have some of their laptops stolen shortly after. Later, pictures emerged showing a Chinese firm producing a virtually identical product. To address this growing threat, the UK's security experts, the National Protective Security Authority and the National Cyber Security Center, have collaborated and launched a new campaign called Secure Innovation, emphasizing the importance of both cyber and physical security for startups.
The journey of Sameer Vazwani and the lessons from restaurant failure
Sameer Vazwani, co-founder of Prodigy Chocolate, shares his journey and the valuable lessons he learned from a failed restaurant venture. Despite facing initial skepticism from his family about leaving a law career to start a restaurant, Sameer pursued his passion. The restaurant initially thrived, attracting celebrities and positive reviews. However, external factors such as the 9/11 attacks and low lunch trade eventually led to financial difficulties and the decision to close the business. Sameer then quickly moved on to helping his brother set up a successful food manufacturing company in West Africa, using the lessons learned from his restaurant failure to navigate the challenges and build an exceptionally successful business.
Sameer Vaswani is the Co-Founder of Prodigy Chocolate, a company that’s taking classics like Snickers and making them more modern and child friendly, like less sugar and more eco packaging. Before this venture, he built a very successful food manufacturing business in West Africa - but before all of that - he failed. He set up a restaurant which boomed for a few years - he was living his dream life. But gradually that dream slipped away.
