S2 Tips: Have a Moat Mindset
Every business leader, no matter great they are, experiences ruts—or as Seth Godin calls them, dips—in their business. These dips can be discouraging, draining, and just down right not fun!
But as Godin says, don’t think of the dip as a dip. Think of it more like a moat––is just something you have to swim through to get to your business, or “the castle.” The moat is the thing that separates you from the competition. It’s what only you are willing to swim through to create the company you want to create.
So, instead of our usual tip this week, we just wanted to encourage you: if you’re in a dip right now, change your mindset and imagine it’s just a moat. If you’re not in a dip right now, keep this in your pocket for a rainy day.

#020: The Culture Fix with Will Scott
There is a big difference between what your company’s culture is and how it makes your people feel. Misaligning people with culture and vice versa can stifle an organization’s growth––leaving people unmotivated and disengaged.
We’ve invited Will “The Culture Czar” Scott onto the podcast to talk about his passion and mission to help companies identify, embrace, and implement their core values to create thriving cultures. Will is the author of The Culture Fix: Solving C-Suite Problems at the Ground Level and Founder of The Culture Fix Academy. He discusses his 9-step process for taking organizations from simply having core values to truly having a valued culture. To learn more about Will or connect with him, email him at Will@CultureCzars.com.

#019: Leading in Crisis Through Human Connection with Scott Mann
Before the pandemic, the workplace was increasingly becoming imbued with distraction, disengagement, and distrust. Unfortunately, the pandemic heightened some of these unhealthy culture symptoms by withholding from employees some of their most basic human needs.
Now, before that dark cloud of a paragraph above makes you want to pull out your umbrella, take a breath, and don’t fear, because Scott Mann is hear! Joining us for his third time, retired Green Beret, founder of Rooftop Leadership and The Heroes Journey, Scott Mann teaches us the critical leadership skill of human connection and the role it plays in developing healthy, safe, effective teams and organizations.
Scott points out that when we don’t understand our most basic human drives, the more we become removed from them, and the more they show up in our lives, our leadership, and in the workplace. But the leaders who lead with purpose and human connection skills are the ones who thrive, especially during crisis.

Bad leaders.

John Richie is a highly-sought after executive coach and long-time mentor to our leadership team. He joined us in 2019 to talk about why some leaders fall short of confronting the demands of reality.
Most people would rather live in the world that exists within their heads rather than the world that exists. In this episode we are reminded of how to address the issue right in front of us and embrace the future we envision for our organization.
