The End of Jobs: Reskilling for the Future with Jeff Wald

Welcome to the What's Next! podcast with Tiffani Bova.  This week I am excited to welcome Jeff Wald to the What’s Next! Podcast. Jeff is the Founder of Work Market, an enterprise software platform that enables companies to manage freelancers (acquired by ADP). Jeff has founded several other technology companies, including Spinback, a social sharing platform (eventually purchased by salesforce.com). Jeff began his career in finance, serving as Managing Director at activist hedge fund Barington Capital Group, a Vice President at venture capital firm GlenRock and various roles in the M&A Group at JP Morgan. He is an active angel investor and startup advisor, as well as serving on numerous public and private Boards of Directors. He also formerly served as an officer in the Auxiliary Unit of the New York Police Department and is the author of The Birthday Rules and The End of Jobs: The Rise of On-Demand Workers and Agile Corporations. Jeff frequently speaks at conferences and in media on startups and labor issues. I am absolutely thrilled to be speaking with Mathew Pollard on the What’s Next! Podcast!     THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… freelancers, part-timers, full-time workers, temp workers, managers, leaders, and parents!    TODAY’S MAIN MESSAGE… Jeff drives home the undeniable importance of being a life-long learner because every worker–whether you are a freelancer, a part-timer, a full-time worker, a temp, a company-person–is going to be constantly needing to reinvent themselves, reskill, and up-skill as they move forward. When we introduce the compounding problem of automation and rapidly improving robotics and VR, the need to stay competitive and flexible is more apparent than ever. It is not all doom and gloom however, emerging and advancing technologies also provide more varied and effective solutions than ever before to help the workforce reskill and upskill, but you have to be ready and open. Your learning journey begins the second you leave the traditional school system–you don’t learn a skill and move into a lifelong career anymore. Now, your job is to continue to learn, and relearn, and adapt as you move through your professional life and the world developing around you. Now, how do you navigate that? How do young people navigate that? That’s the big question Jeff wants to talk about...    WHAT  I  LOVE  MOST… Talking about the future, whether it’s setting our kids up for a healthy and successful life as they grow and develop in a world with rapidly advancing technology and all of its new and unestablished rules, or preparing ourselves for the future of work as a result of rapidly advancing technology.    Running time: 28:19     Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani on social:  Facebook  Twitter  LinkedIn     Find Jeff on social:  Twitter  LinkedIn  Jeff’s Website    The Birthday Rules Book  The End of Jobs Book

Seventeen books and thirty-five years later, Tom is still at the forefront of the “management guru industry” he single-handedly invented. Tom’s bedrock belief: “Execution is strategy—it’s all about the people and the doing, not the talking and the theory.” In November 2017, Tom received the Thinkers50 Lifetime Achievement Award. The way you behave towards your fellow human beings–particularly towards those for whom you are responsible–is the very definition of your professional life and legacy. This is a time for thoughtfulness, caring, patience, and understanding–and the world past-COVID should be as well. Another point Tom would love to drive home in this episode is the undeniable advantage having women in positions of leadership can afford your organization and your bottom line. Tom shares his wealth of experience, his wonderful insight, and answers some of the What’s Next! audience’s burning questions live on the line.    WHAT  I  LOVE  MOST… Tom’s unstoppable energy, humility, and compassion, and how he fearlessly spreads his message of leadership steeped in humanity.     Running time: 45:45       Subscribe on iTunes     And check out the video of our live chat here!    Find Tiffani on social:   Facebook   Twitter   LinkedIn   Instagram     Find Tom online:   LinkedIn   Twitter   And be sure to check out my first episode with Tom!  Excellence Now and Tom’s Other Books  Tom’s Udemy Course

Michael is the President of Making Strategy Happen, a consulting firm that helps committed leaders turn ambition into strategy, and strategy into reality. For the past 20+ years, he has instituted the structure and discipline of his strategic management system in organizations across North America. Previously, he managed the consulting division at The Atlanta Consulting Group, and prior to that held a leadership role at FedEx. Well, Michael has a few questions for you? Have you developed the right focus - a concise, compelling, clear-focus? Have you created an environment of both engagement and performance where you can capture people’s hearts as well as their heads? And importantly, have you built the right team? That’s what MichaelCanic is here to talk about. That, and how important it is to be ruthlessly consistent when going about it.   WHAT  I  LOVE  MOST… Sometimes we get so enamored with the BIG things that we have to do that we forget the little things, and consistency is one of those “little” things that is key!    Running time 28:50      Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani on social:   Facebook   Twitter   LinkedIn   Instagram      Find Michael online:   LinkedIn  Twitter  Instagram  Making Strategy Happen Website    Ruthless Consistency Book

The Good Guys: Mentoring Women and Creating Allyship in the Workplace with David G. Smith and W. Brad Johnson

Welcome to the What's Next! podcast with Tiffani Bova.       This week I am beyond thrilled to be speaking with Dave Smith and Brad Johnson on the What’s Next Podcast! David G. Smith, Ph.D., is a professor of sociology in the National Security Affairs Department at the U.S. Naval War College. As a sociologist trained in military sociology and social psychology, he focuses his research on gender, work, and family issues. He is the co-author of Athena Rising: How and Why Men Should Mentor Women along with Brad Johnson. W. Brad Johnson, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology in the Department of Leadership, Ethics, and Law at the United States Naval Academy and a faculty associate in the Graduate School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of thirteen books, including Athena Rising: How and Why Men Should Mentor Women and his newest book, also co-authored with Dave Smith, Good Guys: How Men Can Be Better Allies for Women in the Workplace.    THIS EPISODE IS PERFECT FOR… men in positions of power and leaders looking to be allies and mentors in the workplace to further workplace gender equity and inclusion.    TODAY’S MAIN MESSAGE… Diversity is often looked at as just counting heads without much thought given to how much individuals feel that they are included and included meaningfully. The research is really clear in terms of increased performance, creativity, and innovation, but diversity without thought to real inclusion does not often lead to those outcomes. Good leadership values this and takes it into account. So, how do leaders show that they have this awareness and demonstrate allyship in the workplace? That’s what Dave and Brad are all about, and that’s what they’re sharing with us in this episode! Diversity expands capacity and ability in an organization and creates more opportunities, not less. But to get there, you need to be intentional and set clear objectives. This also applies to mentors and mentorship, and it also applies to workplace culture and how men in positions of power and leadership speak to, with, and about the women in their organizations. Mentorship is the key to creating meaningful change, inclusion, and allyship in an organization. This isn’t about white-knighting or rescuing, this is about creating space, stepping back from the spotlight granted by privilege, and intentionally moving the dial on inclusion with that power.    WHAT  I  LOVE  MOST… Dave and Brad’s mission to create more allyship and inclusivity in the workplace.    Running time 35:03      Subscribe on iTunes     Find Tiffani on social:   Facebook   Twitter   LinkedIn   Instagram      Find Dave and Brad online:   Dave Smith’s Website    Brad Johnson’s Website    Good Guys: How Men Can Be Better Allies for Women in the Workplace Book   Athena Rising: How and Why Men Should Mentor Women Book
