Episode 536: Emma Kertesz – Bayshore Marathon Champion in a Big PR of 2:37
I am so excited to bring you an episode with Emma Kertesz! This is her second time on the podcast. Emma was first on the show back in 2019 for episode 215 (listen here!). Emma and I got to see each other at the Bayshore Marathon weekend which was amazing. Emma won the marathon and she had a big PR of three minutes and ran 2:37! Funny side story: I tripped over some cords as I saw her finishing the race because I was so excited to cheer her in. Emma is originally from Ohio. She ran for the University of Toledo and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for both her high school and college teams. She also ran for Hanson’s Brooks for a while post collegiately.Emma competed in the 2016 and the 2020 Olympic trials for the marathon. She’s had some ups and downs with injuries since then, and we talk about how she’s mentally handled her running and what to do with it. She works full-time as a director at an early childhood preschool, which is amazing. We get to hear about that job a little bit as well. Emma trains with the track club, coached by Evan Schwartz in Boulder, Colorado. I loved hearing all about their team culture in this episode an the joy that Emma finds in training with the team! What we talked about:6:30- Her work as an director at a preschool10:15- Recapping her race at the Bayshore Marathon14:15- What her training looked like leading up to the race22:50- Recapping the race31:15- What’s next for Emma and chasing the OTQ38:15- The Track Club team environment40:45- How she feels about where she is at with her running career52:00- End of podcast questionsShow notes:Emma on Episode 215Emma on InstagramBook recommendations:A Court of Thorn and RosesHomesick for Another WorldRemarkably Bright CreaturesThis Summer Will Be DifferentConnect with Lindsey: Lindsey on InstagramLindsey on TwitterLindsey on Facebook Join the I’ll Have Another Facebook GroupSupport the I’ll Have Another Podcast on PatreonFollow SandyBoy Productions:Sandyboy Productions on TwitterSandyboy Productions on InstagramSponsors:2BeforeUse the code “Lindsey” for 30% of 20 packs plus free shippingPrevinexUse the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health Plus

Episode 531: Alysia Montaño – Advocacy with &Mother, Perspectives on Motherhood, & Her Recent Upgrade to 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist
Today, I am thrilled to present an episode that was recorded live in Chicago, in collaboration with Fleet Feet Chicago and Altra. In this episode, I had the privilege of interviewing one of my favorites, Alysia Montaño. Alysia, as you may have recently heard, has been rightfully upgraded to a Bronze Medalist from the 2012 London Olympics in the 800 meters. This achievement comes after two years of world championships where she also received upgraded bronze medals. It’s a moment of celebration for her, yet also a time to reflect on the challenges she faced during those years. We delve into this aspect of her journey towards the end of our conversation.Alysia is a mother of three and a six-time USA Outdoor Track champion in the 800 meters. Moreover, she has emerged as a powerful advocate for women and mothers in sports. Alysia is the founder of ‘&mother,’ an organization dedicated to dismantling barriers that hinder women’s ability to pursue and excel in both their careers and motherhood. This conversation was such a joy to host live with Alysia! Given the timing, our discussion naturally gravitates towards the topic of motherhood. To all those observing Mother’s Day this weekend, I’m giving you all a hug and celebrating you! I hope this conversation brings you joy and inspiration as you celebrate. What we talked about:4:00- Taylor Swift talk!6:55- Introduction to Alysia8:00- Catching up with Alysia10:30- Starting &Mother and transitioning out of professional running14:45- Changes being made in the sport for mothers22:00- Finding joy in the sport28:00- Talking to your kids about failure30:50- Perspectives on motherhood42:00- Encouraging our kids to watch and support women’s sports48:30- Her daughter getting into running52:50- Her recent upgrade to an Olympic gold medalShow notes:&MotherJoin &Mother for the 4th annual MomForward5K!Connect with Lindsey: Lindsey on InstagramLindsey on TwitterLindsey on Facebook Join the I’ll Have Another Facebook GroupSupport the I’ll Have Another Podcast on PatreonFollow SandyBoy Productions:Sandyboy Productions on TwitterSandyboy Productions on InstagramSandyBoy Productions Shows: Why is Everyone Yelling? The Up and Running PodcastThe Illuminate PodcastThe Herban Farmacy PodcastThe Ready to Run PodcastSponsors:PrevinexUse the code “another” for 15% off OR use code “LindseyStrength” for 15% off if you purchase their new Muscle Health PlusLagoonUse the code “Lindsey” for 15% off your order

Episode 530: Jenny Simpson – From World Champion in the 1500m to the Boston Marathon
Today on the podcast, my guest is Jenny Simpson, who just ran the Boston Marathon. She ran 2:31 and was the fourth American and 18th place over all. And this was just 10 weeks after a disappointing Olympic marathon trials where she made the decision to step out of the race at mile 18. We cover that at the end of the podcast. Jenny is a world-class 1500 meter runner. She ran at CU, was sponsored by New Balance for 12 years. She’s now sponsored by Puma. Some of her accomplishments include a gold medal at the world championships, multiple silver medals, a win at a diamond league, a 2016 bronze medal in the 1500 at the Olympics in Rio. And in this episode, we talk about what it was like to decide to run a marathon and to become a marathoner after grinding at the 1500 for so many years and being so good at that distance. Jenny has a lot of wisdom and advice to give us in this episode about what it looks like to try something new and different and also what it looks like to walk through a so-called failure and to get back up and try again. I always feel like I learn so much from Jenny and she’s just got this very honest, authentic and genuine way that she has conversations and it’s such an honor to have her back on the show. Enjoy this episode!
