Episode 315: Lauren Paquette – Take a chance on yourself; Training with NAZ Elite
Lauren Paquette is racing the 5,000m at the Sound Running event this weekend and she joins us on the podcast today. She is one of the newest members of Hoka One One NAZ Elite and we get to learn all about her journey to joining the team in this episode.
Lauren ran for Baylor where she has held several school records and finished 7th in the 1500 at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. After college she ran with Asics for a bit and joined a training group, but ultimately ended up training with her husband coaching her for several years before joining NAZ Elite. I LOVE the story of how she pursued joining the team- you’re gonna love it too. She currently holds a 15:10 PR in the 5,000m and a 31:53 10,000m PR. Though she was an 800-1500 meter runner for years, she now focuses on the 5,000m and 10,000m.

22:05- The decision to leave Memphis and move to Flagstaff while her husband would stay in Memphis

Episode 314: Sasha Wolff – Founder of Still I Run; Running for Mental Health
Sasha Wolff is the founder of Still I Run. Still I Run is a community where people can share their experience of dealing with depression/anxiety etc. through running or any other type of physical activity. We encourage one another to take time out of our busy lives to run for our mental health. Through various programs we offer, we hope to educate others about running for mental health, raise mental health awareness, provide encouragement to others, and help people experiencing hardship get started in their running journey.
Still I Run was founded by Sasha in 2016, however the idea for the group came to her a few years earlier. In 2011, she was hospitalized for anxiety and depression and one of the coping mechanisms she learned while getting help was the concept of creating healthy routines and habits. One day, shortly after discharge from the hospital, Sasha put on a very neglected pair of running shoes and decided to go for a short walk. That walk felt so great, that she kept doing it on a regular basis and eventually started to go faster and longer. She hasn’t stopped running for her mental health since.
Once she discovered the benefits of running for mental health, Sasha wanted to connect with others who do the same thing. Unfortunately, she couldn’t find a group anywhere.
Sasha is the mother of two, with one on the way, works full time and runs Still I Run in her spare time. She is so passionate about the mission of Still I Run and you’ll sense that in this conversation!

Episode 312: JJ Santana – Healthy mindset with racing, 2:17 debut marathon & pacing duties at the Marathon Project for Sara Hall
JJ Santana is on a mission to run his fastest times at 34 and there’s a lot to sit back and watch. He debuted the marathon just two years ago at CIM in a time of 2:17, qualifying him for the Olympic Trials. He also had the super cool and fun job of pacing Sara Hall at the Marathon Project back in December and he shares about how he landed that duty in this episode.
In this episode we dig into his pacing duties pacing Sara at the Marathon Project and we also talk about his big dream goals for his own running career which is blossoming! He has only really raced two marathons and has a goal of breaking 2:14 this summer and even bigger plans beyond that.
One of my favorite parts of this conversation is when he talks about mindset and how he feels about racing. I hope it will help all of us reset how we think about it and enjoy it just a little bit more!
This was a super long conversation so I pulled out a couple of parts and those pieces will be up on Patreon for extended conversation if anyone is interested in hearing more! You can access that at Patreon.com/LindseyHein. I drop bonus episodes over there every single Wednesday.
Big thanks to listener Gieselle for suggesting JJ for the show!

Episode 309: Lindsey Elizabeth Cortes, Sports Dietitian, Competitive Runner & Entrepreneur
Lindsey is a Registered Dietitian and Founder of Rise up Nutrition. As former D1 athlete herself, Lindsey is passionate about helping athletes with their relationship with food and fueling for peak performance.
We cover a lot in this episode… we talk about the concept of intuitive eating and how we can pair that with fueling to best meet our needs as an athlete. You’ll hear all about that in this episode.
Lindsey is a wealth of knowledge and if you know someone looking to fuel for optimal performance or have a teen who may need to have a conversation with an RD to talk about any challenges they may be having with their relationship with food, I highly recommend checking out all that Lindsey has to offer.
What we talked about:

12:50- Intuitive eating paired with fueling for performance
15:55- Importance of talking with a sports dietitian as a young athlete
