Episode 478: Lisa Weightman – 4x Olympian for Australia; 2:23:15 Marathon PR at Age 44

Lisa Weightman is on the show today! Lisa runs for Team Australia. She has competed in four Olympics (2008-2020). Since competing at her forurth Olympic Games in Tokyo, she is running better than ever. At age 44, she has set two personal bests in the mratahon within 6 months. She ran a 75 second PR at the Berlin Marathon in 2:24 in September 2022. Then in February, she improved that time by another 45 seconds, running 2:23:15 in Osaka. That moved her from the fourth to the third fastest Australian marathon time ever. Then, a week after Osaka she was still in Japan and placed 9th at the Tokyo marathon in a time of 2:31:42. This is going to be exciting to watch her as she works to make her fifth Olympic team. If she does that, she will be the first track and field athlete to make five Olympics for Team Australia. This episode is a part of our high school coaching series. For the next four weeks we’ll be bringing on various high school coaches about the development of young athletes and the importance of those relationships.I am excited to bring one of my friends, Chris Turner, on the show today. I met Chris through the Donna Foundation, which helps people that are walking through a breast cancer diagnosis. Chris is on the board of the Donna Foundation. He is also on the board for Girls on the Run in Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Symphony Board. He volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Still I Run. He has run four out of the size major marathons. He is a Run Disney Galloway Pacer. He works for AARP in Florida doing community outreach. Episode 476: Annie Hughes; Extreme Ultra Running; Moab 240 and Leadville 100 Champion, Recent 3rd Place at Hardrock 100

Annie Hughes is an ultrarunner who just placed 3rd at Hardrock 100. She is an up and coming ultrarunner but has already made a name for herself in the short time that she has been doing it. In 2019, she left her college team to pursue ultrarunning and hasn’t looked back!Annie lives in Leadville, Colorado and won the Leadville 100 and became the youngest female to ever win that race. She also won the Moab 240. Just last year, Annie placed as the first female and third overall and broke the course record by 14 hours at the Cocodona 250. Priscilla Tallman is a mental performance coach who trains athletes to have a healthy relationship with their sport, their teammates, and themselves. She played collegiate volleyball for the University of Georgia and went on to play for the USA National team and was a member of the World University Games team. She uses both her experience as a player and her education in clinical psychology to help athletes with their mental performance.She has a really cool 30-day Champion’s Journal and Return to Play Journal. Jenny Hitchings broke an age group world record at 59 years old at the London Marathon this year running 2:45:27 which is a world record for the 55-59 age group. She placed 25th for women in a crowd of 48,000 runners. Jenny lives in Sacramento where she is a running coach and a middle school cross country coach. She has several age group American records. Courtney Dauwalter is on the podcast today for the third time! She is just coming off of winning Western States and crushed the course record by 78 minutes! This is her second win at Western States. Grace Norman is a three-time World Triathlon para champion in 2016, 2017, and 2022. She is a 2020 Tokyo Paralympic silver medalist, a 2016 Rio Paralympic Gold Medalist, an 8-time World paratriathlon Championships Medalist (3 golds, 2 silvers, and 2 bronze). She is a two-time USA Paratriathlon National Champion and a 13-time World Paratriathlon event medalist.Grace was born with congenital constriction band syndrome in her left leg at birth which resulted in the amputation of her left leg and right big toe below the knee when she was young.She competed in track and field and cross country in high school where she became the first female amputee to finish on the podium at a high school track and field state championships.
