Episode 539: Marisa Howard; First time Olympian in the Steeplechase headed to Paris!

Is there anything better than watching someone become an Olympian?! Marisa Howard ran the race of her life at the Olympic Trials Steeplechase final last week. She ran 9:07 which was a 15 second PR for the Steeple veteran and first time mom. She placed third running a strong race from start to finish and if you haven’t seen the video yet of her family freaking out at the finish make sure you google that! Marisa lives and trains in Boise, ID and ran for Boise State. She ran the trials supported by Tracksmith which was not a traditional sponsorship but a great support for the Olympic Trials for so many athletes like Marisa. In this episode Marisa and I talk about how she felt becoming an Olympian, her training, family and her faith. I love her authenticity and was grateful for this conversation! Episode 538: Briana Boehmer – 2:33 Marathon PR at the age of 42 on Entrepreneurship and Not Finding Your Worth in Your Accomplishments

Today, I’m joined by the wonderful Briana Boehmer. I had the incredible opportunity to interview Bri in Boston, she was part of a live panel that I hosted. She ran her first marathon at the age of 42 in a time of 2:33. That was her first standalone marathon. She has done several Ironmans. She has a 9:22 Ironman PR and a 4:21 Half Ironman PR. She has completed the Kona Ironman multiple times. She ran for CU in college and after pursuing professional running and realizing maybe that wasn’t gonna happen for her, she took a break from that and then ended up getting into Ironman. But in 2021 at the age of 42, she thought, I’m going to see what I can do in the marathon. She ran CIM, and set the master’s course record running that 2:33. She now runs for Oiselle. Outside of running, she is passionate about mentoring and coaching. She is in the startup world, and she also teaches entrepreneurship courses. She serves as the COO of a forward-thinking local company and teaches entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Boulder. She also serves on the board of directors for Startup Colorado. And she’s the co-founder of Goodie Bag Eats. It is the coolest way to make sure food at restaurants gets eaten and not wasted. I love talking with Bri and I’m so grateful to know her. She works full-time as a director at an early childhood preschool, which is amazing. We get to hear about that job a little bit as well. She does such a good job bringing lighthearted fun to the running world and it’s been fun to see her grow. Laura’s the mom of two and is expecting another baby this summer. So I wanted to grab this interview before baby came, which was exciting. And I just love that she uses her platform not only to make us laugh, but she’s made a career out of it, which is amazing. Episode 531: Alysia Montaño – Advocacy with &Mother, Perspectives on Motherhood, & Her Recent Upgrade to 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist

Today, I am thrilled to present an episode that was recorded live in Chicago, in collaboration with Fleet Feet Chicago and Altra. In this episode, I had the privilege of interviewing one of my favorites, Alysia Montaño. Alysia, as you may have recently heard, has been rightfully upgraded to a Bronze Medalist from the 2012 London Olympics in the 800 meters. This achievement comes after two years of world championships where she also received upgraded bronze medals. It’s a moment of celebration for her, yet also a time to reflect on the challenges she faced during those years. We delve into this aspect of her journey towards the end of our conversation. Alysia is a mother of three and a six-time USA Outdoor Track champion in the 800 meters. Moreover, she has emerged as a powerful advocate for women and mothers in sports. Alysia is the founder of ‘&mother,’ an organization dedicated to dismantling barriers that hinder women’s ability to pursue and excel in both their careers and motherhood. This conversation was such a joy to host live with Alysia! Given the timing, our discussion naturally gravitates towards the topic of motherhood. To all those observing Mother’s Day this weekend, I’m giving you all a hug and celebrating you! I hope this conversation brings you joy and inspiration as you celebrate. Episode 530: Jenny Simpson – From World Champion in the 1500m to the Boston Marathon

Today on the podcast, my guest is Jenny Simpson, who just ran the Boston Marathon. She ran 2:31 and was the fourth American and 18th place over all. And this was just 10 weeks after a disappointing Olympic marathon trials where she made the decision to step out of the race at mile 18. We cover that at the end of the podcast. Jenny is a world-class 1500 meter runner. She ran at CU, was sponsored by New Balance for 12 years. She’s now sponsored by Puma. Some of her accomplishments include a gold medal at the world championships, multiple silver medals, a win at a diamond league, a 2016 bronze medal in the 1500 at the Olympics in Rio. And in this episode, we talk about what it was like to decide to run a marathon and to become a marathoner after grinding at the 1500 for so many years and being so good at that distance. Jenny has a lot of wisdom and advice to give us in this episode about what it looks like to try something new and different and also what it looks like to walk through a so-called failure and to get back up and try again. I always feel like I learn so much from Jenny and she’s just got this very honest, authentic and genuine way that she has conversations and it’s such an honor to have her back on the show. Enjoy this episode!
