Here's What We'd Tell Ourselves 15-Years Ago
In this episode, we want to talk about the direction of our show and how we’d like to chat with the entrepreneur that was us 15 years ago. We find that there’s a lot missing when we don’t have that perspective in mind, and maybe that’s you or you have a business and you want to go back to basics. We are talking about the handful of things that our younger selves would really appreciate hearing, such as our ideas on delegation, building our list, setting up systems, and how we put content out into the world. The overall theme is we want to identify different strategies that can help our younger selves and get past some hurdles and roadblocks even quicker. Another segment of today’s episode revolved around how we’ve been sending out emails, asking how we can help you and what are you struggling with in your business now. So if you have emailed us, listen up as we answer a few of the questions that we have received. When you’re done, go check out our conversations with Scott Carson and Stephen Esketzis for more ideas on how to set up systems and your content strategy to reach your audience more efficiently. “Speaking to our younger selves is creating a content machine that allows you to not only grow your brand by putting things out to the world and be able to share it but connecting with highly connected and successful people. You can engineer that yourself by creating your own platform. - Joe Fier “I’ve stopped thinking about being happy when and just enjoying what we are doing right now. I’ve shifted my thinking into ‘Let’s just make every day fun, and figure out how to make money off of that fun-ness that we’re having.’” - Matt Wolfe Some Topics We Discussed Include: Before we knew what we were doing, drinking Corona and hanging out in the driveway The mindset shifts which we both have had in the business, and have led us to have more time on our hands Our platform way of thinking to connect with people and bring your message out to the world How to become a merchant of attention so people can buy attention from you The magic of leveraging a platform to build your own platform The Catch-22 of being concerned about sending too many emails to your list Wise words from the founder of Netflix How our content strategy has allowed us to connect with not only our audience but a slew of amazing entrepreneurs How we structure our free and paid content and why you should give away most of your information for free We are also answering your questions on today’s show. If you are struggling with anything, post your question in the Facebook group, and we will let you know our thoughts on a future episode Our Resources: PodHacker EGP membership References and Links Mentioned: Referral Mastery Are you ready to be EPIC with us?! Chris Parker - What To Do With 9 Million Visitors Per Month
This was a super fun episode with Chris Parker where we covered a lot of things that we haven’t before. Chris is a unique marketer in that he has more traffic than he knows what to do with, and we love the fact that he's built this system to give back to the world. He’s the founder of WhatIsMyIPAddress.com, a tech-friendly website attracting a remarkable 9 million IP-seeking visits a month. We discuss the benefit of banner ads and using an aggregator, and the breakdown of how his site brings in revenue, plus the promotion of his in-house tools which you can find on his site. Chris also talks about how he uses HARO to get interviews for his podcast, Easy Prey Podcast, and his recommendations on how to make your media page stand out to visitors, so perhaps even you will get on television as he did. Motivated by stories of cybercrime victims, in 2020 Chris created his podcast to help followers learn about scams, fraud, and other dangers they face online and in the real world. When your stuff is compromised things can go south fast, and you’ll hear Chris’s take on creating online log-ins, two-factor authorizations, and all the aggravation you want to avoid if you have to contact a website if you lose your information. If you want to dive deeper into the quiz funnel idea that Chris discussed on the show, be sure to check out our show with Ryan Levesque, and if you want to dive deeper into Google ads, you’ll love our show with Justin Brooke. “I have the opposite problem that every affiliate marketer has. I have so much traffic, I don’t know what to do with it all.” - Chris Parker Some Topics We Discussed Include: The revolution of deep fakes in the world of scammers What to be aware of as business owners, so you don’t get scammed Dealing with bottlenecks in the business, before you get too successful Should you use header bidding in your advertising? Which are the best ad networks to worth with, especially when you are just starting out Why you want a media page and what to include so it gets you more contacts Using VPN networks - whether you should or not and which ones to use An easy solution to get around the possibility of a ransomware attack The three red flags you should know behind most email scams Examples of people who have been scammed and how to make sure you are not next Resources From Chris Parker: EasyPrey.com - download the self-assessment What Is My IP Address References and Links Mentioned: Chris’ Show About Deep Fakes Have I Been Pwned Publift Freestar Studio1Design.com NordVPN Carbonite Idrive Backblaze Google Authenticator Ryan Levesque’s Ask Are you ready to be EPIC with us?! Matt Wolfe & Joe Fier - All Day I Dream About Systems
We’re back again with our Therapy Session-ish chat - or soon to be called some other new awesome name. We record them roughly the week before the show goes live, so the content we bring you is as fresh as the memory of the last dollar you made online. Lately we’ve been talking about dialing in all the stuff in our business and how we are aligning our actions with where we are headed in the next 10 years and beyond. We know that we all have things that we do routinely, such as checking emails and touching base with people, and when you have a good system behind it, it’ll make your day go so much smoother. You’ll especially enjoy listening to Matt’s background with designing systems and how his brain works when it comes to fine-tuning the most simple of tasks with the use of some very simple tools. He talks about his three-step process and how he’s able to get to the coveted inbox zero on a daily basis. After you’ve got your mind spinning, be sure to listen to our chats with Paul Minors and David Jenyns who give us even more strategies and tactics to build systems in your life and business, so you can have more time, be more productive, and scale your business. “I do the stuff I least look forward to first so that all that’s left for the day is the stuff I do look forward to doing..” - Matt Wolfe “There’s the momentum of task completion too. Ryan Berman - How Courageous Companies Build Well-Known Brands
The time really flew by on today’s episode with Ryan Berman of Courageous Brands, as we let Ryan’s stories interweave into the show. Ryan brings to the table a different perspective than most marketing people. We discuss his stair stepper approach to marketing and how everything is connected. We also talk about how he created an actual city location, in Funner, CA and the magic behind that marketing campaign. One of the things that we love about this conversation is to start by stepping into the shoes of who you are selling to, which is something we intuitively know, but don’t always practice. Think of how you would want to be marketed to, which is one of the toughest things, but remember the customers are holding all the cards. Ryan also discusses how, if you have a boring brand, do something to change that fact, and create stories around the brand to make it exciting. Also, make sure you listen to the end, as we read some of our recent reviews - maybe it’s from you! And after you have enjoyed this episode, be sure to check out our conversations with Dan Norris and Ryan Lee, who have both created successful brands by offering value and fun in a different way that makes them stand out from the rest. “We’re living in this world now, where we are inundated with 7,000 messages a day. There’s so much competition right now and that’s why brand is so important.” - Ryan Berman Some Topics We Discussed Include: Why “No feel, no deal” is so important to your business David Hasselhoff and the magic behind a “Funner” city The beauty of marketing today in telling your story Getting from strategy to ideas to execution How to flip common perspectives to bring your brand to new levels From ducks to geckos - what to do if you have a boring brand Beerfest vs. Craftfest? We’ve been doing a lot of soul searching and have been upgrading our lives in different ways. We’re also still continuing to get insights and help from our friends and podcast guests, which is one of the main benefits of what we do. We also discuss our new schedules, our awesome new studio space, how we’ve been able to rid ourselves of several limiting beliefs and make the adjustment to hand off work which was hard to do at first, but has freed us up and in turn, made more money. I start working on things...we are sending files back and forth via Slack even though we’re next to each other, and the next thing we know it’s been 3 hours and we just built an entire funnel. Let’s go to lunch.” - Matt Wolfe Some Topics We Discussed Include: How our new bachelor pad/podcast studio has made our life easier and more productive Are burritos or tacos the next productivity booster? And who has the best tacos country-wide? Justin Cooke - How To Hire A-Players In Your Company
This is the third show where we discuss Empire Flippers, and today we are chatting with Justin Cooke, one of the founders. Justin talked about the Amazon affiliate sites that they sell a lot of, and a good way to learn which sites are selling is to visit their site and go through the listings. Keeping up to date on what’s selling in the marketplace is super valuable for all of us. We’re all building assets and there’s a way to enhance their value. We also talk about the hiring process, and if you check out their site under the careers tab, you’ll be able to see what we are talking about. He’s got a pretty solid hiring process that he mapped out. He discusses his sales funnel process of hiring, the benefits of hiring an apprentice, how to find potential hires if you don’t already have an audience to reach out to, and how to weed out the non-contenders early on. He also has an interesting take on the commission process and discusses how he’s made it more of a cooperative arrangement, which has worked out very well. After you listen and your mind is reeling from ideas, you’ll definitely want to check out our previous chats with Greg Elfrink and Matt Diggity, on how to best create a site for a future sale or to maintain it while making affiliate income. “I don’t want to fail them..and if I fail them, I’m just going to be amplifying my own failure. But also, any entrepreneur that waits until they are ready to hire has waited way too long.” - Justin Cooke Some Topics We Discussed Include: Pivoting after one of Google’s updates Record-breaking numbers on website sales How to hire an apprentice for your business and working through the ups and downs Breaking down the strategy session process A really smart way to get you noticed when applying for a position Getting over your fears about hiring Building commissions in a cooperative way so the whole team wins Using a cooperative approach for a commissions structure What to do when you are first starting out if building a site to sell Resources From Justin Cooke: Empire Flippers The Opportunity Podcast Empire Flippers Podcast Justin Cooke on Twitter @EmpireFlippers EF Capital References and Links Mentioned: Flippa The Tropical MBA Gen M Creative Are you ready to be EPIC with us?! Travis Chappell - How To Get To Know Anyone On The Planet
We’re back with another awesome show, chatting with Travis Chappell, host of Build Your Network Podcast and creator of Guestio. Travis is a guy that we could have easily chatted with for another hour and what came out of this show was way better than we anticipated. We discussed how to get the big name guests on your show, how to interact with them and encourage them to share the show afterward, how to network and build relationships with them, and how to create big events with past guests. He’s got a great philosophy when it comes to networking and while there’s a lot of things you can’t track such as the shoutouts from people you collaborate with, there’s also a lot of intangible benefits that happen down the road, such as investing, referrals, and advisory relationships. We love his idea of hosting dinners and bringing people together and we also love how he created his own reality for success as he used to live in a bubble growing up. Travis discussed his research methods and how he has put hours into it before the guest shows up, noting some key things to pick up on, so you can chat about the things which will make your guest light up. After you have enjoyed this show, check out the chats we referenced with Jordan Harbinger and Luis Diaz for even more ideas on how to network with the people you want in your circle and growth hack your podcast up the charts. “It was the first time in my life that I had actually taken a pay cut to do something different, but I just knew it was something I was meant to be doing.” - Travis Chappell Some Topics We Discussed Include: Our recent thoughts on ClubHouse Starting from nothing with no contacts Giving your guests a reason to share the show with their audience Why having a podcast is like getting a free education How to navigate the conversation to get unique content out of your guests A unique follow up process for past gets that adds a boatload of value The new platform that makes it easy to connect with podcasts and filter out the podcasters who are less serious Examples of questions to ask your guests that stand out from the usual, boring topics How to get over the fear of reaching out to big-name guests Resources From Travis Chappell: Guestio Build Your Network Podcast TravisChappell.com References and Links Mentioned: PodHacker $2 MILLION in 12 Months, The Price of Mr. Beast's Success PodHacker.com/news Noah Kagan’s interview with Lewis Howes Don’t forget to subscribe and leave a review and if we read your review on the episode, we’ll send you a free shirt! Victoria Song - Bending Reality To Make The Impossible Probable
We have the wonderful Victoria Song on the show today, and one of the big topics we discuss is how, through her coaching, she has talked to people who have made millions of dollars, yet feel empty inside, and how it definitely seems to be a common thing among the high achievers. Victoria warp speeded her own journey, coming from the V.C. world as a super achiever, and is now on a journey to do more and help people who have created hugely successful lives, but still feel unfulfilled. She delves into why we need to discover the things that really light us up and how to go about doing that in such a way where the path will eventually reveal itself. She also talks about how to focus on your awareness and your emotions to make you feel less fragile so you can let go of trying to control life while staying calm in times of uncertainty. Victoria even walked us through some coaching on the show, where we talked about constricted energy patterns arising from past events, and how to use her framework to get past it. It’s all about consistency and we’ve integrated a lot of these techniques ourselves lately to realize our patterns and get into more of a state of flow where we are leaning more towards our focus on having fun with the business. After you have listened, you’ll want to check out our conversations with Angelo Sisco and John Assaraf to help you destroy those blocks that are stopping your progress. “Our subconscious lives in our body and in our nervous systems, and not just in our minds. The body remembers what the mind may forget.” - Victoria Song Some Topics We Discussed Include: Delving into why people are unfulfilled after experiencing great success The amazing results from hiring a life coach Using unpleasant emotions as fuel for expansion What entrepreneurs should be doing during the start up phase and afterwards to prevent the dreaded feeling that something is missing Why you want to be more like bison How to get into more of a flow state and operate from a sense of play What to do when you get to that place where your nervous system has expanded Accessing the field of infinite possibilities How to create friction in your life so you can uplevel What to do when you don’t know your life’s purpose Resources From Victoria Song: Victoria Song Bending Reality References and Links Mentioned: Are you ready to be EPIC with us?! Erik Huberman - Building A People-Based System To Achieve Your Vision
Our episode today with Erik Huberman of Hawke Media was a mini-class of 5-6 various topics all combined in one show. We talked about increasing lifetime value, about how venture funds work, equity deal lessons, the marketing we should be focused on, and building an agency, systems, and owning your audience. We share the vision with Erik, as there’s a lot of what we’ve done previously such as having an agency, and we like the fact that he’s not trying to create his own products, but is just staying in his lane. We also talked about owning your own audience and bringing them somewhere where you can follow up with them as well as the idea of aspirational content where the content is built so it’s inherently sharable as that’s the content that people want to be shown. The content is what goes viral, not the sales page. We talk about how he is building sweat equity and brought in someone to view what he was doing, as there are probably some better deal structures out there. Erik has all these companies and basically crafted something where he can be his best self, which creates funds, books, and his own platform through scaling people. After you have listened, be sure to check out our chats with Charles Byrd and Sergei & Vadim Revzin to get your mind reeling with the opportunities behind venture funding and expanding your network for lucrative deals. “Figuring out your average sales cycle is critical so you can analyze everything else well.” - Erik Huberman Some Topics We Discussed Include: How venture funds are the next level of curation Accessibility for great marketing for all From beanie babies to a BMX The #1 thing that most companies overlook in their marketing Why 9 women can’t make a baby in a month Why the consideration period is more important than you realize Dialing in your content with your product or services’ aspirational ideals Resources From Erik Huberman: Hawke Media Ecommweek.la Hawke Capital References and Links Mentioned: PostScript Fab Fit Fun Beautycon Rebelmail TapCart Are you ready to be EPIC with us?!
