032 Alien 3

The New Flesh continues drifting through outer space with David Fincher's ALIEN 3! Before getting into that, Brett and Joe spend a literal hour catching up on their weeks, pontificating on the PURGE franchise, and disparaging the current state of online film culture and fandom. Joe extinguishes the hype surrounding festival favorite BITE, Brett gives a surprisingly positive review to Kevin Bacon's new Blumhouse horror flick THE DARKNESS, and also highly recommends Karina Longworth's "You Must Remember This" podcast about Charles Manson and his connection to Hollywood. After sharing too many Manson family details, Brett and Joe eventually get to ALIEN 3, directed by a then-28-year-old David Fincher, which of course has a storied history. In the words of Karina Longworth herself — join us, won't you?

031 Aliens

The New Flesh returns to the ALIEN franchise with James Cameron's 1986 follow-up ALIENS. Before getting into the details of the then-newcomer director's notoriously tense production, Brett and Joe get seriously off topic right away and talk alcohol laws and Radiohead's new single (this episode was recorded before the full album release). ALIENS is an entirely different beast than the first film, and the story behind it is damn near as compelling as the film itself.

030 Alien

The New Flesh returns to franchise territory with Ridley Scott's 1979 classic, and one of Brett's favorite films, ALIEN! Before getting into ALIEN's truly fascinating production history and backstory, Joe and Brett reminisce about working at movie theaters (again) and Brett reviews some recent Tribeca fare, new indie horror flick DARLING, and Key and Peele's big screen debut KEANU. After catching up on their very exciting weeks, Joe and Brett excitedly take on ALIEN and how it came to be, backed by the knowledge from repeated ALIEN viewings as well as the DVD extra documentary THE BEAST WITHIN about the making of the film, which is now available on YouTube.

029 Green Room, Blue Ruin, Murder Party (ft. Jeremy Saulnier)

The New Flesh return for another week to praise GREEN ROOM, the Nazi-punk siege thriller now playing in theaters nationwide. Before getting to the spoiler-free discussion of Jeremy Saulnier's latest (including an interview with the writer/director himself!), Brett and Joe digress about Stephen King adaptations, SING STREET and the onslaught of Disney's CGI remakes with THE JUNGLE BOOK. After that, Brett explains why the new VOD horror flick HOLIDAYS is not worth a look. If you're still listening by the 56 minute mark, you'll hear Brett's phone interview with GREEN ROOM, BLUE RUIN & MURDER PARTY writer/director Jeremy Saulnier, followed by a spirited discussion of his filmography.

028 The Giallo Episode

With the smoldering wreckage of the HELLRAISER franchise in the rear view, The New Flesh returns to talk about movies that are actually great! Kiyan Warner, horror enthusiast and expert on all things giallo, stops by TNF HQ to lay out everything you need to know about the subgenre, from key players, must-see films, to the style itself. Before diving into Argento, Bava, Fulci, and all the other Italian horror staples, our hosts reminisce on a weekend full of Ween, Brett passionately defends the JUMP STREET series, and the fully Go-Pro'd action flick HARDCORE HENRY is dissected. Kiyan eventually takes the reins as giallo classics are discussed, most notably DEEP RED, SUSPIRIA, INFERNO, PHENOMENA and TENEBRE. Also discussed and recommended: BLOOD AND BLACK LACE, SHORT NIGHT OF GLASS DOLLS, DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING, ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK, CASE OF THE SCORPION'S TAIL, IN THE BELLY OF THE BLACK TARANTULA, YOUR VICE IS A LOCKED ROOM AND ONLY I HAVE THE KEY, STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY'S TEARS, CAT O NINE TAILS, FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET, THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSAL PLUMAGE, THE GIRL WHO KNEW TOO MUCH, BAY OF BLOOD, TORSO, DRESSED TO KILL, BODY DOUBLE

027 Hellraiser: Hellworld, Hellraiser: Revelations

It's a celebration over at The New Flesh HQ this week as the HELLRAISER franchise comes to a screeching halt with possibly the two worst entries in the franchise, HELLWORLD and REVELATIONS. Before getting into just how far the series has fallen, Brett and Joe have a whole lot to talk about, including Ween, Ben Wheatley's HIGH-RISE, Jake Gyllenhaal's DEMOLITION, the spectacularly batshit GODS OF EGYPT, and even Sam Peckinpah's THE GETAWAY. After breaking down whether festival favorite HUSH, which is now on Netflix, does or does not live up to the hype, Joe and Brett passionately endorse Karyn Kusama's THE INVITATION, which is finally available on VOD. You'll definitely want to stick around for the HELLRAISER discussion, as REVELATIONS may be the worst movie our hosts have ever seen.

026 Hellraiser: Hellseeker, Hellraiser: Deader

The New Flesh still somehow manages to cling to life after a brutal HELLRAISER 6 & 7 double feature. Before explaining exactly how the franchise lost its way, Brett and Joe get incredibly deep while discussing Mike Birbiglia's new feature DON'T THINK TWICE as well as Richard Linklater's new sort-of-sequel to DAZED AND CONFUSED. Brett won't shut up about seeing THE WILD BUNCH in 35mm at Lincoln Center, and Joe finally doubles down on Brett's recommendations of KRISHA and THE WITCH. After Brett does all he can to ruin Joe's favorite new Bushwick theater/restaurant, the gears eventually shift back to HELLRAISER, but they probably shouldn't have, honestly. Just one more week of HELLRAISER remains, until then, check us out on Blumhouse! http://www.blumhouse.com/2016/03/31/profile-on-the-new-flesh-a-horror-podcast/

025 Hellraiser: Inferno

Week 5 of The New Flesh HELLRAISER marathon continues with the first direct-to-video entry in the franchise, HELLRAISER: INFERNO. Before spending very little time talking about that, Brett expresses his excitement over the LCD Soundsystem revival, and briefly walks Joe through the trouble with BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. He also drops some super inside Hollywood knowledge, and Joe tries not to roll his eyes. After a nice Friedkin tangent, Brett reccomends the recent indie KRISHA, and they finally get to the most unique HELLRAISER entry yet. We'll return next week with double HELLRAISER duty.

024 Hellraiser: Bloodline

Brett & Joe return with the fourth entry in the HELLRAISER franchise, the very confusing film that takes place in 1796, 1996, and 2127. Seriously. Oh, and Adam Scott wears a powdered wig. Before getting to this Alan Smithee'd disaster, Brett and Joe spend way too much time reminiscing about Blockbuster video, Joe talks recent Oscar-winner ROOM, and Brett recommends the upcoming GREEN ROOM, which is the most badass movie you'll see this year. The New Flesh will be back next week with the first of the straight-to-video entries, HELLRAISER: INFERNO.

023 Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth

The New Flesh returns to hell ... on earth! If you missed the live-streamed audio commentary, no worries, as Brett and Joe are back in regular pod-form with the third entry in the HELLRAISER franchise, 1992's HELL ON EARTH. Esteemed colleague Charles Bramesco (Uproxx, Vanity Fair)returns to talk even more about his love for the series. But before that, Brett, Joe and Charles reflect on THE PEOPLE VS. OJ SIMPSON, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, and some of the other 900 movies Brett watched this week. Be sure to stick around to the end for Brett and Charles' brief discussion of Sacha Baron Cohens' THE BROTHERS GRIMSBY.
